Using foul language demeans your arguments and reinforces my point about a lack of perspective.

Having been out of work, lost my house and lived on £80 per week for a year I konw what it's like to be short of cash.

If someone works away from home they should be entitled to claim reasonable expenses. When I had my own business £40 is what I used to allow my staff to claim for meals.

If you lived in Cheshire how much would you claim? How much would a Journalist claim?

To net £150 grand you would have to earn over £250,000. ~40% goes in tax, you get ~60%

That typical £150,000 of allowances is paid tax free for permissible expenses, permissible to the Revenue, that is. If you misuse expenses for funding your brat's drinking and whoring (sorry, schooling), for instance, you are obtaining an improper benefit in kind. The Revenue will pursue you for the tax that should have been paid but wasn't. I can tell you as a past beneficiary, that the MOD (and previously the War Department) has always assisted its officers with the cost of education, as said officers are often overseas on long postings, and the continuity of their childrens' education requires boarding school accomodation, which is beyond the reach of most Service pay. My parents were once on a 4 year posting to Africa - no trips "home" during it. We should not forget the income from directorships etc. that MP's get to top up their Parliamentary salaries and perks. I think one needs to know how many hours directorships require the MP & MEP's to work and for what renumeration. They are of course getting the directorships mainly because of their parliamentary status. ie John Reid and Celtic Football Team;
Neil Kinnock and DRS Data Services Directorship = £33,000.
It seems to me that being an MP may be a part-time job, therefore £60,000 is overpayment!
