The trouble is Gordon has all the power. The Tories should spend more time reminding the electorate of Browns bad mistakes by being a REAL OPPOSITION and not just people looking to win the election. I seem to remember before Labour won in 1997 that they were a pretty good opposition and they built up a momentum.

Cameron has some good ideas but a few more blows on these criminals would be a good idea. Otherwise Brown looks stronger. Cameron needs someone really strong as Treasury shadow as well as people worry about the money in their pockets and the Tories need to reassure them on this.

There are so many open goals why aren't the Tories going for them?

Off topic but the FT running a story about foreign holdings of US treasuries. Why doe sthe UK appear to own 100bn+ of these toxic instruments?

The USD has been collpasing for ages, interest rates are destined to go higher in the US and these bonds have lost anywhere between 2 and 8% in the last month or so (depending on maturity).

Assuming any certainty of a Tory win based on a PM's unpopular policies is pretty precarious, just ask Neil Kinnock (who also had lots of favourable survey results prior to the election). Moral is, if the opposition are not appealing enough, it almost doesn't matter how bad a job the government of the day are doing, they will likely get re-elected. This is why so many politicians continue to use "dirty/smear campaigns" as its a more effective way of reducing votes for the opposition.
