The only bans are on trading with Iran some named individuals in Iraq and gov of sudan these are OFAC restrictions. The sukuk market is growing rapidly and it is sensible to tap it if the UK can. Anything that lowers the cost of government borrowing (even slightly) is good for UK tax payers.

All religion is bunk, but if a system encourages a particular group to lend to the UK government instead of placing their money elsewhere that should be a good thing. Holders of such securities will have zero influence on government policy (just as Gilt holders have zero influence).

Wealth is created by investment in things that make profits. Borrowing money only creates wealth if you can still make a profit while paying the interest and keeping the capital safe and payable on demand.

Look, I know, for a fact, that NR has mortgagees in arrears that under any other circumstances would have been repo'd by now. Up to now the reason was to tart up the figures.

I also know, for a fact, that many NR 'Together' loans will never be repaid as they were advanced on 120% of property 'value'. Once that 'value' is exposed for what it is - worthless, many more homes will go into repossession.

I agree that it will be impossible for Brown to become the Great Repossessor, and by extension if he does not do it when he should, do you think that any other borrower will care if his particular lender threatens him? He'll just say, "The Government does not repossess people so why are you? Fuck off!"
