We should not apologise for the slave trade. What system of morality can hold me morally culpable for actions that were not my own but were those of people who have been dead for 200 years? It would not only be illogical for me to apologise, it would also be immoral. And for someone to apologise, without my permission, on my behalf, would be utterly reprehensible.

I sure that he is the cultural minister who has been responsible for cutting grants to lots of local organisations on the grounds that they are not doing enough for ethnic minorities. I know of one local chamber orchestra whose grant has been cut on these grounds, despite the fact that they perform in local hospices, old people's homes, etc.

You need to realise the ulterior motive for anything and everything that Tony Blair does. He certainly does not feel sorry for any of his or our past actions, after all name me any politician, with the possible exception of John Profumo, who ever really expressed remorse for his or her behaviour. I suspect that Blair's action is most likely a precedent to a massive anti-slavery Carribean fact-finding spree for Cherie and himself in the run-up to the 'celebrations' next year - i.e. lots of standing around in pseudo-meditative contemplative state at slaver memorials in Bridgetown, Barbados or the Dominican Republic and so on ... all paid for by the British tax payer and last, 'oddly enough', over December and January.

How about he apologises to the people of Iraq and the lies he told before becoming Bush's lapdog. How about apologising to the tens of thousands of pensioners who have lost their entire retirement income after following Government advice. How about apologising for misleading the entire British public in 1997 before his band of thieves were elected.
