Anyone remember Monklands. Lanarkshire Labour heartland. Vacated by the sad death of Saint John Smith.

Labour dominant in the national polls as Major floundered. The fresh and likeable Tony Blair looking odds. On to be Labour leader.

What happened? The Scot Nats reduced an 18,000 majority to 1,800.

People, people, people, it is sauvignon blanc which is drunk in the summer, unless it is Guido, who is apparently drunk the year round. Rosé d'Anjou is overrated, but pleasant. Speaking of Rosie, I don't know if you mentioned this earlier in your blog, but congratulations are due to Rosie Winterton on becoming a privy councillor - this from Hansard:

interesting comment from a labour punter on their shinny new web site - Bromley is actually even more of a disaster for them than it looks, because although DC may prompt some wingnuts to go ukip or inde, he is looking very attractive to the middle of the road voter in a less blue constituency.
Lib dems obviously have a picture of al-beeb chairman in a compromising position with a pig, they appear to have switched their allegience.
