Just to raise the tone of the debate, the intelligent people on here should be taking the threat to our civilisation from Asda / Wal-Mart et al , very seriously, as in second only to labour.

Unlike labour, they are incredibly efficient in everything they do and out of town superstores are very damaging in small county towns. Also they have a devastating effect on small family farms, who are unable to stand up to their demands for lower prices from suppliers.
There you have it, the two most damaging entities in the country today - labour and the supermarkets, ironic that they should be at each others throats.
