Remember that Mrs Tony Blair is acting on behalf of British owners who are selling their property in N Cyprus which is being contested by the original Greek owner and her costs are being underwritten by the Northern Turkish "Gubment". Britain has a treaty obligation to safeguard the territorial integrity and independence of Cyprus, so it's hardly a surprise that the Deputy PM opposes the occupation of a third of that country by what is supposed to be another of the guarantor powers.

That said, alot of GCs are cheesed off with the government as it backed the EU peace plan and then told the Greek Cypriots to whistle for it when they rejected it in a referendum.

This government's policy on Cyprus is effectively the same as its predecessors and the Tories' (ask Theresa Villiers).

Yes, of course, The Greeks are angels, and the Turks are savages: they'll slit your throats, rape your daughters, etc, etc. Give me a break, I've heard it all a thousand times. Nojags Neil says that by sharing a platform with the Greek Cypriots, Prescott is "putting Labour's name to their campaign."

Is this the campaign which aims to see a solution to the Cyprus problem and is one to which every British Government since the invasion in 1974 has subscribed?

Britain is a Guarantor power of the Republic of Cyprus. The international community(with the single exception of Turkey) condemns in absolute terms the illegal occupation by Turkish troops of over a third of Cyprus since the violent invasion. Only Turkey recognises the self-proclaimed "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus".

So if Nojags Neil thinks that the Government should be looking to remain neutral - and that Prezza has broken rank - he is completely at odds with international law, numerous UN resolutions and, for that matter, all right minded people with a sense of justice.

Captain Stupid: that article is likely to be spun slightly - the rhetoric from both sides in Cyprus needs to be heavily filtered.

*However*, that photo is frankly astonishing: he appears to be putting Labour's name to one particular side in the conflict. It's not that long ago that Greek-Cypriot terrorists were murdering British troops, and there he is sharing a platform with them, and appraently putting Labour's name to their campaign.

Yes, the Labour Party is spinning hard to pass the oprobrium on to the Tories by questioning the Tories' use of loans. But the use of loans, declared or not, isn't really the question, is it. Whether the Tories (or any other part) took loans is irrelevant.

The real question is whether honours were given as a result of those loans. And this is only in the gift of the government, i.e., Labour. The Labour Party, in all its calls for the Conservatives to reveal their own loans, is simply being disengenous.
