Im sorry but that statement is a combination of things that cant be disagreed with and then the final one...
this seems to be a clever way of getting democratic legitimacy for the candidates list reforms, which have been very unpopular with the associations. Most wont realise the significance of this, will vote yes and then have it thrown back in their faces should they dare question the 50% women gold-list policy.

How is this a clause 4 moment by any definition? There is nothing here which would cause anyone to balk at signing up - including most Liberal Democrats and Labour party members. Most of the party membership, in my judgement, still strongly back Cameron, but this won't prove that or silence the dinosaurs - even Tebbit should be able to sign up without flinching.
