Westmonster R.I.P.

Westmonster is no more and has gone the way of the now forgotten Honourable Fiend. It won't be missed.

Traffic was small and they were losing money despite the low costs of blog publishing. The owners couldn't make it work and honestly admit that they just couldn't find the talent. Once Sadie Smith* left they did it themselves and then had young, cheap writers - the last of which was dire. They also made the classic mistake of commenting on comment too much and just rounding up other peoples stories instead of getting original news stories. It was a car crash.

*She has her own blog here.

So we're no longer in the digital publishing business, and we're focussing instead on digital consulting to the UK media, NGO, and advocacy sectors.

"Hi. We are failed digital publishers. So we are going to focus on advising other people on how to be failures, too."

{{Sigh}} Idiots.

Police officers will not get a pay rise this September for the second year running, raising fears of another showdown with the Government over pay.

come on this shit is deliberate ! gordon and his lizards are bent.....sorry hell bent on our destruction.

Who?

You're right though, when you said "They also made the classic mistake of commenting on comment too much and just rounding up other peoples stories instead of getting original news stories".

Yoou shouldn't just regurgitate other people's material.

I suspect Mrs Dale's Diary may be going the same way. There is almost nothing of interest on it now, and the topics attract few comments. The regular posters have vanished. Strangely enough, Dale seems to have stopped quoting the monthly ratings figures for the various blogs, what she calls her "Statporn". Time to call it a day?

Dale's diary is dire.

Seems Crick has finally started digging around Glasgow East.

Not seen any polls on it recently.

It all seems to be quite low key.

P.S. Guido if you are now worth a few quid, does this mean the quality (value) of your prizes is going to increase? Not that I ever win fuck all. (Actually not that I enter, but might be tempted if the prizes weren't so shite

talking of which, why on earth is geoffrey whatsit paying for labourhome? why not just set up your own site in competition and spend the five figure sum (£108.60?) on something else?

guido, you're an amusing chap (we've met) but the reason why your blog "works" is that you have an analysis of british politics - there's a corrupt political class, gordon is mad and the media are in bed with vested interests. that's coherent, and you put it across with verve.

plus, even soft lefties think that we're being taxed too much and controlled too often by the state.

talent will out! you can't just stick a fucking rosette on a site and sit back and watch the punters roll in. the web is a great leveller in that regard.

I thought it might turn into something half decent when Sadie Smith was doing it, but the other people were dire.

"even soft lefties think that we're being taxed too much"

By definition, anyone who thinks they're being taxed too much isn't a leftie. Taxation is the fault-line between individual freedom and state control.

Thank god their all gone on their undeserved holidays.

The country will get back to running smoothly and properly until they get back!

God help us when they do.
At least we can then get some answers, don't hold your breath though, to all the bad news we were informed about 5 mins before their holidays began. Perhaps we're all meant to forget the money they'll be pocketing for allowing the new runway to go ahead amongst other things.
