An Apology
Guido would like to apologise for calling "the Brown bottom" and doubting Labour would lose Glasgow East. The SNP won a fantastic 22.5% swing against Labour in what was a rock solid safe seat. Gordon Brown remains in free fall...
John Mason(SNP): 11,277 votes (43%) Majority: 365
Margaret Curran(Labour): 10,912 (41.6%)
Davena Rankin (Conservative): 1,639 (6.3%)
Ian Robertson(Liberal Democrat): 915 (3.5%)
Gordon has no mandate, he is the most hated PM in polling history, dragging Labour to electoral destruction. Gordon goes to Coventry today, he really needs either to go to the country or his own party needs to change leader. Guido knows not a single Labour supporter who wants Brown to remain in charge, plenty of Tories however want Brown to lead Labour to annihilation.

I wonder how they will do it and when?
Why are you leading this with a photograph of Elton John? He's looking trimmer than usual, but still.
Absolutely astonishing. It's one thing to lose in a marginal, but your own client electorate? It's like an C.18th Whig losing a pocket borough after having paid all three electors.
I think Miliband will have to swallow his pride and step up for the sake of the party, otherwise they'll be massacred.
They won't - who could take up the reins with any serious hope of leading the party to better prospects? The public is as angry with Labour as they are with Broon. Nobody could lead that party to electoral success now.
The discussion at Warwick will be interesting.
Surely the entire agenda will be swept aside by the SNP victory?
Anything agreed with the Unions now will just be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The problem the Unions have is not over whether or not workers get inflationary pay rises and more maternity leave. It has to be entirely about whether the party that they founded will survive the next election.
Though this be madness, yet there's method in'it
St William Shakespear of Culture [West Midlands Branch]
Well, sum-think like it ain't it? Or as the retards of Scootlund say - Fucking Delicious!
Genuinely seismic result for the Nats in context of Scottish politics.
I refer you to the comment below, originally posted on 2 July 2008.
PM Straw before year end. It's NuLab's only solution now.
"Tartan Gael said...
Ok, you sassenach fucknuggets, I'm fed up reading so much uniformed shite about Scotland/Jockland/Scottish politics - your collective yaps are full o' shite (look it up).
Here's the gen on the by-election in the Weeg and why the Nats will win it:
1. NuLab are relatively unpopular in Scotland. Levels of support aren't as bad as in the rest of Great Britain, but they're the lowest they've been in a long time. Happy days.
2. But, this seat weighs the Labour vote. You could put up a fucking corpse in a suit with a red rosette on its lapel and it would stroll it at a General Election. Ah, but this isn't a General Election which leads us to...
3. Turnout. Rubbish at a GE, expect it to dive for this as the NuLab proles sit watching council telly and drinking buckie all day. Goodbye, Labour vote. Off a fucking high-rise.
4. Tories will get nowhere. Tories are loathed (still) by many due to long memories of Thatcher, being made guinea pigs for the Poll Tax in 1989 (following the revolt of the Tory middle class in Scotland at yet another rates revaluation - yep, that's what started the Lady's demise: her own fuckturds) and generally everything else the Tories did to destroy British manufacturing and heavy industry (Weegie staples) in the 1980s.
5. Fibdems will get nowhere, either. They've no form in Glasgow, save perhaps Hillhead.
6. Socialists/Tommy's Merry Brothers and Sisters/Whatever the fuck the red bastards are calling themselves these days may improve on piss poor Scottish election performance (a bit) but they'll probably end up fighting each other again and stealing each other's votes. Hurrah!
7. Greens: yeah, whatever. See point 5 above.
8. The Nats: Wee Eck's happy band o' indies. Or should I say "the Scottish Government". Still in the Honeymoon period. Doing popular stuff. Shit hasn't hit the fan yet. Anything that does go wrong, blame England, NuLab, the Tories, whoever. Win win all the way.
They'll do another Govan. Again. They have form and have never enjoyed the level of support they have now. They're the Government up here, for fuck's sake - and have already seen off 2 Scottish NuLab leaders.
They'll win it by a ba' hair. But a majority of 1 is enough.
Mark my words: if Gorgon has orchestrated this by-election as part of some half-arsed strategy to "relaunch" his dodo premiership, he has just committed the biggest tactical blunder yet. It IS the election he should not have fought.
NuLab will lose. He will be fucked. The line will be, "if he/we cannot win in the THE Labour heartland, then we're fucked" and the fuckwit authoritarian NuLab clonedrones will finally find some balls and get rid of the fucker.
Oh, I'm not saying it'll be easy - he's waited too long for the job to let it go after just 12 months - but someone in the NuLab machine will do it (likely prompted by the impending bankruptcy of the party) and then the fun begins as the Tories find out the true meaning of "be careful what you wish for".
We'll see just how strong Dave's touchy feely Tory lead truly is.
It'll be PM Straw and a hung parliament in 2010.
As for Scotland, it'll be one wee step closer to independence. All part of Wee Eck's incremental steps to independence strategy. It's working like a dream so far...
July 2, 2008 11:13 PM"
If Gordo went now it would make three Labour PMs in just over a year. The successor would have to without doubt have to take the country to a general election. Labour don't have money or the votes to do that.
Gordon has to stay.
Next stop-Independence!
The Scots WILL leave this accursed "union" 12 months after the tories get in -in 2010!
ABOUT BLOODY TIME!
Could he be back for the Palace this afternoon? End our suffering (and his), caretaker Prime Minister over the summer - just don't touch anything - and an election on the first suitable Thursday in September. Sorry conference venues!
We Conservatives should do everything in our power to ensure that Gordon Brown continues to be Prime Minister. He's doing an absolutely splendid job. Well done Gordon! You deserve a lovely holiday.
We couldn't have 2 unelected Prime Ministers in a row.
Could we?
Max
Contenders:
Milibland - dull, uncharismatic, boy-faced, wet as a fish. Has done nothing remarkable as Foreign Secretary, would do nothing as PM.
Strawman - when did he last do/say anything of any significance? OK, so he was Foreign Secretary for a bit, but what's he done since then?
Postman Johnson - cheeky chap, proper Labour credentials, but where's his base?
Harperson - God, no.
Darling - Haha!
Big Scrotum - still growling on the backbenches; would probably prefer to back Strawman and get his old Home Sec post back.
The Attack Dog - see above.
Gordon
Time to go. Every day you put it off adds to the agony. You have lost all legitimacy .....and you know it.
anon. @ 8:25 / the basa @ 8:27 ...
Without doubt the discussion at Warwick today will be about survival. The PLP knows the writing is on the wall and needs to minimise the damage. If Brown stays he'll preside over a bloodbath. If he goes and is replaced by a caretaker, say Straw/Johnson (or God help us Harman), they too will preside over a bloodbath.
Labour need to lose with dignity and as many seats in tact as possible and for that to happen they need a charismatic loser - surely only Miliband fits the bill.
If only he had stepped up a year ago, "he could have been a contender". Now is his chance to salvage something from this mess, for the good of the party.
Close the border and start printing those Scottish passports. But please, keep Brown!!!
The Boy Bland is not charismatic. Have you ever heard him speak? He's obnoxious.
Oh no I'm in Coventry today too. Hope I don't get affected by the Jonah effect.
We should all now get behind Harriet in the Party's time of need and push hard for her to be the next leader. Michael Foot in drag!
The people of Glasgow East have done the right thing, and it is right that they have done the right thing, because it is the right thing to do.
I also get up every morning determined to do the right thing etc etc etc
Guido needs to ease up on Broon, a few booster stories, family man, means well, good looking guy, sensayuma, loves Aldeburgh, trews rolled up and playing on the beach wi' the bairns, zooom lens taking pics (no, scratch the last twa', bit creepy), gettin' on wi' ma joab ma boab,(tip: might be easier and save time to cut 'n paste something off the BBC "news" site)
He's as vital to the country now as Enigma was in 1945.
Go Brown!
HMmmmm....if we immediately grant Scottish independence, at a stroke we lose
Brown
Browne
Alexander
...and all the other ne'er-do-wells
Pretty apt that he is being 'sent to Coventry' today don't you think?
Just as one suspects he will be by his colleagues before too long.
Miliband? ........charismatic?
Compared to Brown perhaps but in real life, sorry ...but have you taken your pills this morning?
The brass neck of the man. He will never give up, as he thinks he knows better than everyone else.
Does anyone now not believe labour is finished. I have waited for this day since Blair got in. Those fools that voted for him will now have learnt the lesson every generation has to.
Labour is not fit and never has been fit to run our country.
If Labour thought anything about Britain they would go to the country, but they always put party before country.
Roll on the General Election.
If dave does not measure up the party will get rid of him so dont worry.
Scottish independance? Great stuff, bring it on. We here in beleaguered England might save some of the shedloads of Barnett cash that have been making their way north.
In the meantime, wonderful result...well done Gordon! You managed to lose just about the safest seat in the UK.
The sheer scale of managerial incompetence involved in the loss of this seat is almost unbelievable. Appointing a leader of Scottish Labour just because she is the sister of your #2 mini-me. Then having a public fight with her, and losing her just before a by-election. Then having a public fight with the Catholic Church which is the bedrock of your support in Glasgow. Etc... etc...
If this were just a party matter it would be one thing, but the same amazing leader is supposedly running the country. I don't think the electorate will forgive the Labour Party if this breathtaking incompetence continues for another year or two. The chance of Labour having fewer than 100 MPs in the next parliament is now, in my view, over 15%.
With a swing like this Gordon would loose his own seat.
Should it not be
"THREE STRIKES and YOUR OUT!"
JH
As I recall Labour spokespersons said that following the shite results from the local elections they would 'reflect'; London mayoral result, they would 'reflect'; Crewe and Nantwich, they would 'reflect'; Henley, they would 'reflect'. And now D. Alxander says that following Glasgow East, they will need to 'reflect'.
That's 3 months (12 full weeks) of 'reflection'. Any insights yet, chaps? Any stirrings in the collective Labour psyche? Any pictures forming?
No doubt many here could offer suggestions but, personally, I can't wait for Polly's valued opinion.
Never mind Gordo dragging Labour to electoral destruction what about Labour dragging this country to complete moral, educational, social and financial distruction?
How the fuck did they lose glasgow east?
With gordo zanu are done for.
Without gordo, surely they'll have to call a GE.
The end of labour is nigh
You motherfuckers are doomed!!!! Now you will know why you fear the dark, know you will know why you are afraid of the night! Your project to create a NWO is failing. The people are rising. You and all you believe will be destroyed. You will be treated without mercy. There will be trials, you will face justice: the justice traitors have ever faced. Resistance to Liberty is futile. Did you think we would let you win?! You will join the dole queues at the point where your hyper-inflationary crisis reaches its peak. I suppose you can always sell your bodies or eat each other. Now you will know why you are afraid of the dark. Know you will know why you fear the night! A warning to the NWO: we have your lackeys on the ropes! We are coming for you next!!! Resistance is futile! You will be treated without mercy. FEAR THE PEOPLE OF LIBERTY!!!! YOUR DOOM HAS COME!!!!
What muppet planned his itinerary?
Sending him to Coventry!
Milliband parents were imigrants, part of his school education was i the USA, he had a scolarship to a uni in the USA, his wife has dual British/USA citizenship, his two children were adopted in the USA.
What stake in or loyalty to the UK does he have?
All he has done so far is help screw it up and deny us a referendum on the EU Treaty.
Yes - if we can't have the pleasure of watching Brown destroy the labour party, Milliband would be good to watch too.
Brown's got no balls and he's got no bottom.
BBC is pure shit.
They were going at the conservstive spokesman as if it was his 13000 majority that just exceeded crush depth.
Next they arrange an interview with Browne just before the news headlines so they can cut that short.
Finally, as the morning comes alive they ignore the by-election, and only mention it in passing, concentrating instead on that Quantas Jumbo.
Finessing away the hurt for our partners in Government:
BBC - it's what we do!
(And don't you fucking well forget it, you bunch of prole scum!)
Brown will NEVER stand down from the leadership of the Labour Party so any talk of him doing so or talk of him being forced to do so are absolutely pointless. There are only two ways he will relinquish what he has striven and plotted for all his political life - either in a "wooden box" or when he takes the Labour Party down into political oblivion at
the next election.
The Party was warned at the time that to allow Brown to become leader would be political suicide and that they/he had a window of about 6 months to either go to the country and win an election or suffer the consequences as Labour electoral capital was slowly eroded by a worsening global economic downturn. The indicators were already in place in the summer of 2007 for a world recession.
As it happens due to circumstances the situation worsened more quickly than predicted by the various economic models but the outcome was always going to be the same.
Gordon blew it - in September 2007 - he simply didn't have the moral courage to take his chance in the polls and he and Labour are reaping the result of his indecison and prevarication. When it came to it - even though he had all the cards Gordon blinked first and allowed Cameron to bluff his way out of certain defeat at a General Election called for Oct/Nov 2007. That chance will never be repeated. Labour and Brown are finished.
I'm glad I stayed up to watch the result come in.
It says a lot about the unpopularity of NuLab that a candidate as deeply uncharismatic as the SNP's could overturn a big Labour majority.
Incidentally, my word verification was 'shoqth'. It sounds as though it's come straight out of H P Lovecraft. Maybe NuLab should consider Cthulhu for leader - he'd be more popular.
Although Gordon and Nu Labour are loathed - and rightly so - by a lot of the electorate I am not entirely sure that the electorate really understands exactly why this government is so useless.
A large number clearly still feel that New labour is not left wing enough, despite all the evidence pointing to the fact that leftyness is a sure fire way to ruin everybody. Many do not associate economic downturn with Gordon's new labour spending policies. They still seem to feel that Gordon was a good chancellor.
News management is still trying to compare Major's problems with Gordon's problems. And many believe that they are the same. They are not. Major's government tenancy was right at the time when the previous 14/15 years reforms had started to deliver. A delivery that was then squandered by Brown.
For the Tories (as I would like to make clear, my least worst option for government) to truly recover they have got to associate our current situation with Brown's failure as chancellor as well as PM.
If Brown does go now this may have to be the tactic. Failed PM and so by association failed chancellor. Are the electorate truly ready for freedom?
BTW sitting in my kitchen this a.m. looking out of my windows to 25 acres of set aside still lying fallow. This land has been this way for 6 or 7 years. It's no wonder food prices are high.
The deterioration of the Economy and the increased taxation on Booze can't have helped
BUT
It was the Christians wot dunn it
How many Christians in Glasgow abandoned Labour to vote Scotch Nationalist, because they are fed up with this Godless Regime's relentlessly anti-Christian policies
eg the Criminalization & abolition of Roman Catholic Adoption Agencies
* OK by Opus Dei member Mrs Derek Gadd [Ruth Kelly], but hardly a vote-winner amongst the Catholics of Glasgow
eg the attacks on Church Schools, now that Cruella de Blair has got her Kids through the London Oratory (RC) School
No doubt, onnce again, he'll be trying to say it is all the fault of the American sub prime housing market.
The truth being, that no one,and I mean no one, even those saying otherwise, thinks that Gordon is up to the job. Fortunately for Call Me Dave, Gordon has surrounded himself with those who lack the courage to challenge him.
"Milliband parents were imigrants, part of his school education was i the USA, he had a scolarship to a uni in the USA, his wife has dual British/USA citizenship, his two children were adopted in the USA.
What stake in or loyalty to the UK does he have?"
So what?
I was born in Cleveland into a steelworking family, went to the same sixth form as Rod Liddle, tramped around Australia for a year, went to graduate school in Canada and Texas. Now I live in Sardinia and I'm married to an Italian.
But I still have my British passport. And so does David Miliband; only more than this, he's taken an oath of loyalty to the head of state which is more than any of us have ever done.
Not that I'm his bum-chum or anything but I think that's a little harsh. I agree he's a loser, but a well-dressed loser.
Brown's Broadcasting Company:
A Quantas jet had to make an emergency landing after a loud bang was heard, a large hole appeared in the side of the plane and debris flew around the cabin.
Labour has lost a bi-election, it has happened before and should it really matter?
As I have said before this is superb vintage Soviet trained Pravda professional journalism.
This is not nearly as bad for labour as you torys seem to think. Before the result last night, the SNP were talking about a majority of 1000 or even 1400-1500. But they didn't get even close to that, but limped in with 300 votes.
As for the torys, they got nowhere near labour. This shows that the torys cannot win in Scotland, and the only anti-independence party that can come close to winning in Scotland is labour. As the majority of Scottish folk are against independence, labour are the only party who can triumph.
Gordon has still got time to get the country out of the economic downtuen caused by global conditions, becuase he has ensured that we are well-placed to recover due to his fiscal policies.
You torys won't be so happy after the general election. When Gordon wins, you will be so demoralised that the tory party will implode, and be out of power for another decade or more. When it comes to the wire, people will not forget the poll tax, the miners and the 4 million unemployed of the Thatcher/Major years.
The fried mars bar munchers have spoken. Och aye laddies, Gordon where's your majority to the tune of Donald Where's your Trousers to echo through the land.
Lovely Jubbly. There is now a very strong chance that Gordon will not even be a back bench MP after the next election.
Better bump up the expense claims Gordon, as the Gravy train endeth very shortly for you.
Steady on now! You peeps are getting too carried away. Y'see, this is just 'mid-term blues'. A Protest Vote. Let me remind you that our Great Leader will still get up in the morning to take the right long-term decisions, and to lead this wonderful country through the impending Economic Gloom. His blind eye and deaf ears will steer the course. Aye, she's warming up - the corpulent soprano is about to emit organised vibrations from her vocal chords...
not like you to have a judgement failure Guido, eh ;)
standards must be slippin
"You torys won't be so happy after the general election. When Gordon wins, you will be so demoralised that the tory party will implode, and be out of power for another decade or more. When it comes to the wire, people will not forget the poll tax, the miners and the 4 million unemployed of the Thatcher/Major years."
Satire presumably?
Gordon Browns indetikit statement is?
The er message I take from this er poll is er that the voters are sending me a message that although the voters have never been as well off and well looked after and happy that Labour has delivered huge prosperity, they er think they are worried about their er percieved problems that the voters think they are worried about er and that message is that er the voters want me to er continue to take the er difficult decisions and they er want me to lead them trough er difficult times brought on by er global difficulties er and global problems so I will continue to build on all that I have done er to make Britain a world leader in er everything and Britain is best placed to weather the global economic storm because of my er leadership.
Talk about a fucking retarded incompetent cunt, this Gordon(fake PM)Brown takes the fucking 1st prize!
"You torys won't be so happy after the general election. When Gordon wins, you will be so demoralised that the tory party will implode, and be out of power for another decade or more. When it comes to the wire, people will not forget the poll tax, the miners and the 4 million unemployed of the Thatcher/Major years."
Congratulations on hacking the parental controls again.
Clever boy!
Gordon should resign.
He won't.
The country should instead be run by contributors to this site.
It probably won't. (Be a laugh though!)
Great result in Scotland, though sorry if it results in the destruction of the Union.
However as a Coventry resident, the University of Warwick (which is mostly in Coventry) is only half a mile away from where I live. Maybe I should pop round and offer my condolencesa and comiserations.
Also Coventry is a hung council adminstered by the Tories - I hope they remember to welcome our 'guests' appropriately (you know requiem music, dark suits & black ties, somber mourning...)
Ray Griffin
Coventry
Little wonder then, that Gordon has electionphobia.
The only way Gordon Brown is ever going to win anything is if they make Being a Useless Fucking Cunt an Olympic event. That way he would at least return a little bit of the mountain of gold the twat sold off for fourteen quid and five magic beans....
MSP... I think you'll find you still lost!Got it.. Ah what, a labour majority of 13000 overturned, never mind it's still the Tories fault for not being in power for the last 11 years. You lot are really desperate.
As for the BBC you'd never known there'd been a (good) bye-election. SKY are running it constantly. Shame on them don't they know they're not supposed to mention it when Labour looses.
Now watch James Purnell as he leads the fight to oust the appalling Brown within 3 months. The war to rid us of this disastrous, highly unpleasant, phoney has started in earnest this morning.
I have had six phone calls from influential people within the party already, all determined to dump Brown and most supporting James!
Why is Labour Home carrying so little on this?
You would think they would be interested!
Maybe all the little lefties read Guido, 'cos they can't get intelligent conversation at a CLP ward meeting!
Who amongst the poliburo wants to be remembered as the person who led ZanuLab to extinction in a General Election? Nobody serious stood as a candidate against Mr Micawber when there was a chance that the wheels wouldn't come off the NWO. As we know from the writings and actions of the Great Leader, courage is a theoretical concept, not a socialist core value. There will be no challenge, as the ZanuLab rabbits are caught squarely in the headlights of enraged public opinion. The best chance for the Country is for GB to stumble on, in office but not in power, until DC has learnt how to avoid chaining political bicycles to 2ft bollards of public opinion. ( pure Household Cavalry officer material, that one).
Anon.
July 25, 2008 9:00 AM
Yep.
Gordon blinked first. Just like he did when Tony Bliar took the leadership of the Labour Party from him.
Gormless McDoom has bottled every hard test set for him.
Come out Gorgon: "You're not fit to wear the Shirt"
Anyone checked to see if the Nokia share prices has shot up today?
Brown will be out before the Autumn conference. Straw will be 'caretaker' leader until inevitable defeat at the next election. Then Purnell to win a hard fought contest after that.
The BBC had this to say about Brown:
Mr Brown is to meet trade union leaders and activists later to discuss Labour's policies for the next general election.
Now I know a Labour MP from Wrexham and he reckons anyone, but anyone, who takes over from Brown is going to be in hock to the unions.
Do these fuckers not realise that the unions demands and links are what to a large degree, and growing, got them into this mess?
Please let Brown stay and hang on until the next election, and let the LibDums be the opposition...now that would be delicious.
Just heard a 2 minute interview with the snot gobbler on radio 5...
"Difficult times" x 12
"job in hand" x 7
"Fuel prices" x 8
For fuck sake, you fat waste of space, change the fucking record and FUCK OFF you useless cunting ballbag.
Gordon Brown has his slimey finger on the 'red button' of a general election and will not hesitate to use it should the third rate midgets of the cabinet(that the arch backstabber/plotter Brown has conveniently placed around himself)grow enough balls to challenge him!
The Tories will win a landslide at the General election but the downside for them will be the almost certain loss of Scotland as early as 2012 which will certainly vote for independence. Labour is finished whatever they do OK, Gordon Brown has painted himself and his band thicko yesmen/women into the mother of all corners! There is no escaping and there is no relaunch of the NuLabour Titanic which sank without trace in 2007 when the chief coward Brown ran away from an election that he could have won(with a very small majority)! The pathetic dregs of the crew of the SS NuLab are in the lifeboats still unable to comprehend that their unsinkable ship has sunk beneath them but once the cold light of day sinks in to their stunned little minds they will do what all cowards and losers do and that is turn on the captain! Sit back and watch the fun'N'games of a bag of greedy rats tear themselves to pieces!
Tuscan me dearboy, how's the sun? I love your spirit but I think we need to stove his head in now. I've blagged the aft off and am gonna get as much champers as £86 will buy me (laced with orange juice so not that bothered) and celebrate the death of New Labour. Days like this should be savoured. Give my regards to the family and big, humungous cheers from ol' blighty.
Would have thought the BBC would have the courtesy to do at least one interview with someone, anyone, from the SNP. They did actually win this by-election.
Do we really have to put up with 2 more awful years of this appalling Labour government and its useless, lying, increasingly desperate and deranged Prime Minister?
Just think how much more damage they can do trashing the country, borrowing to the hilt, and operating a scorched earth policy before the game's finally up.
Something has to be done to get rid of Brown long before then for all our sakes.
Fucking brilliant...
1. Labour down the pan, flushed into history
2. SNP: horrible bunch of shits, but who cares?
The good thing is now there should be a real push for Scottish independence: brilliant: fuck off all jocks, make England independent, stop all the money going out of my pay packet in tax to subsidise the jock fuckers, make them have to be truly independent; Jockland will be a wasteland in 5 years. Good, fuck 'em
Set up border controls and keep the fuckers out.
Broon is incompetent, but what about the toothless arselickers who keep him in office? Gordon Marsden and Joan Humble have been elected (by whom?) into a sinecure t look after the needs of Veterans. Wonderful! In eleven years they have done everything to obstruct us vets from getting natural justice. Let apathy kick the lot into the long grass - including the Eton Mafia.
Well it was widely recognised that Labour fought a good campaign, and had a good candidate.
But they still fucking lost, and in the 12th safest seat in the country.
Guido, you should have known to to stay away from Browns bottom.
You have now felt the curse of the one eye'd prophet of doom. Count yourslef lucky you are still alive!!
I also appologise for saying Labour will get less than a hundred seats at the Election.
I now say they will get less than 10.
'Things can only get better'
So it seems.
W.W.
Meltdown for Gordon & Labour!
Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke or a nicer party, entirely composed as it is of arrant fuckwits.
Did they not see that devolution would lead to Scottish independence, and that without Scotland there can never be a Labour government at Westminster?
As for Purnell, I suggest a cardboard box might make a better leader ... wait a minute, there won't be any Labour Party to be a leader of ...
Annon 09.41 hrs,
Good points well made upto the Household cavalry remark, what i am sure you meant to say was Blues'N'Royals material surely! The Household cavalry is composed of highminded and eager go getters who are performing sterling service wherever and whenever required!
Disclaimer: I am an independent observer with no particular axe to grind whatsoever!
Thankyou and goodnight.
Fraser Nelson just said on Sky that when Brown hits rock bottom, he will start drilling.
Don't forget your general election promise of a referendum on the proposed EU constitution, Gordon, because we voters haven't forgotten.
I think now is a good time to remind the esteemed readers of this blog of this gem from yesteryear, "Gordon where's yer scuples?"
(To the tune of "Donald where's yer troosers")
I’m from Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath
I look kinda deep but there’s nothing underneath
And they all shout out on Hampstead Heath
Hey Gordon where’s yer scruples?
Chorus
Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low
I’ll bend with the wind where’er it blows,
And all the Lobby say - hello
Gordon, where’s yer scruples?
I’ve been Chancellor noo for many a year
But I’ve always slagged off Tony Blair
I brief against him withoot fear
And ye cannae do that with scruples!
(Chorus)
When I screwed up on the Benefits front
I didnae wish to look a ****
So I pushed Primarolo oot in front
For I havnae any scruples!
(Chorus)
Prime Minister I yurrn to be
Nuclear power? the top-up fee?
War in Iraq? they’re fine with me
I’ll support them without scruples!
(Chorus)
When I’m in Number 10 at last
Will I do what’s right for the wurrking class?
They can stick a Trident up their arse
If they think that I’ve got scruples!
Good, now Scotland can leave you sponging English cunts to rot!!
The sooner we get independence, the better.
We're subsidising YOU, not the other way around, you bunch of leeching morris-dancing wankers.
Any issues? Come up and see me.
Oh wait, you haven't surrendered to me have ye? Like your navy did to Iran, lol!!
The English - warm beer drinking surrender monkeys
I seem to remember Guido telling he had bet on Labour to win Glasgow East. Punditry?
Today Gordon goes to Coventry - eventually. How long has it taken him to realise that the electorate sent him their ages ago?
Dear God, Please, please, please let them keep Brown, the "Best Chancellor this country ever had," who built a house of cards on a sea of debt, which we will now have to pay off for years to come.
The credit crunch is not imported. It was made here. Remember Labour's first term inclusivity agenda when banks were prevailed on (by threat of windfall taxation) to provide the full range of banking services to those who they had hitherto deemed to be too risky to lend to? I always thought that the purpose was to save the Treasury money by making it cheaper to pay benefits to the proposed enlarged Brown client state. I was right. No they and we pay the price.
I couldn't care less about what caused the defeat.
Only that it was brilliant to watch, and I am glad I stayed up!
Even better - a sitting MSP for the same area was rejected by the electorate, will she now resign (no), but her leadership in Scotland hopes are probably over.
It's a great day to be up here in Scotland, and I for one am pretty surprised because Central Scotland is far more tribally Labour than anywhere else in the UK I have ever been.
This will do more damage to the Labour Party in Scotland than many people will realise.
Hate to say this Guido ,but BBC2 Scotland via Sky was very good last night I now they scrambled for something to say after 1am but hey ho, still can't get over wee Dougie and his 63 quarters of growth by Labour
The headline in the Sun should read
"It was Purnell wot done it for Gordon"
After all why vote for a toe-rag whose going to cut the Welfare State?
Just think of all those Labour MPs who'll be filling out their Jobseekers Allowance claim forms and then having to 'Hup, hup, hup' to the little hitlers dictat of the new nasty Jobcentre plus regime they put in place - priceless!
Great Peter Brookes cartoon in tThe Times today. A drunken Brown in the gutter crying: "Ich bin ein Glaswegian!"
Neil Kinnock Old Labour
Tony Blair New Labour
Gordon Brown Hard Labour.
Has our Jonah PM recently leased a plane from Quantus...?
The unions will agree a policy of scorched earth with Gordon. We all know it. Bugger survival - they will borrow and borrow again to buy a bigger client vote. Yes, I know, it won't win 'em anything but the more difficult they make restoration for Cameron, the better they will like it. If Cameron has to refight the union battles then he can't get on with stopping the rest of the public sector fuckwitery. Sorry but that is what they will do.
Have we just witnessed the beginning of the end of the Union?
This English nationalist says :
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
Labour are disgusting and corrupt .
English parliament
English ministries
English ministers
English first minister
English budget
HOME RULE FOR ENGLAND
Ahhh Guido, no need for you to apologise, it really was too close to call.
If anyone owes an apology it is the Labour Party who should be apologising.
They have had years to remedy the problems in Glasgow and all across the rest of the UK and instead of listening and learning they have screwed us all over and betrayed our trust again and again and again.
They just dont get it, this is about more than the price of a pint of milk and a loaf of bread.
They have taken a generation and doomed them to minimum wage slavery and an early death.
New deal ? This labour governement has failed. There is no new deal, but it gets worse, they continue to betray the unions the armed forces and workers in the public sector while lining their own nests.
Who in their right minds votes for a party like that ?
If the UK will not look after the Scots, the Scots will find a way to look after themselves.
Scots Wa Hae
John 10.34, you're absolutely right. We need to get the referendum on Scotland first thing, catch the mood so that the electorate don't take it personally when Cameron has to sort out the mess.
Fuck off Brown you total, utter, useless cunt ... but not until 2010 (please). Thank you.
my god ...just seen browns post election interview with the beeb
" my job is getting on with the job , getting on with the job to see Britain through these difficult times "
repeated the job bit several times , and that he is "listening "
Its like a stuck record ... a repeat from the last interview ...
The only thing that was missing was the tractor production figures.
Its like hes got a limited number of stock answers pre practiced , and is incapable of going off track
bet the cabinets feeling well inspired after hearing that eh ?
A great day for English nationalism.
Poor Des having to defend the indefensible on the box this morning - having to earn his Minister's salary for once.
I wonder how much the smoking ban contributed to the downfall of the Labour fiefdom?
BBC R5 have grounded all the anti-labour stuff as an anti-Brown spasm.
Now they are rehabilitating comrade Brown and bringing on the labour die-hards screaming how bad things were under the tories.
BBC:
We're biased and 'Politics Home' knows we are.
tankus @10:45
Spot on.
"Poor Des having to defend the indefensible on the box this morning - having to earn his Minister's salary for once."
Talibunny mortars, ambushes, IEDs and explosive vests?
nah!
Things can only get better?
an englishman said 9.56am
as one englishman who recognises what the Scottish people have contributed to our Union, I would appalled to see the Union end.
Please look at the magnificent role performed by the great Scottish regiments in both world wars and also in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Look at the role of Scottish Inventors, Scientists and Educationalists. They have given this united island so much.
We are at the moment a United island Nation and long may that be so.
To 'an englishman said @9.56am' grow up. study history and realise that United we truly are a force to be reckoned with. Disunited and the old hatred's will raise their heads and problems will multiply.
We need the scots, they need us!
We need the Irish, they need us,
We need the Welsh, they need us.
Three Loyal Cheers for the UNION.
"Have we just witnessed the beginning of the end of the Union?"
No that was May 3rd last year. This is just the latest step on the road.
The Prime Minister says he is "getting on with the job.
"We've got to listen, understand and hear people's concerns."
If he listens very carefully he will hear that the 'sex and travelling' option is being suggested by all but the dysfunctional die-hards with Zanulab stamped on their birth certificate.
Chances of him acting on what he hears? Nil. Pity really...
Joyous. What a lovely evening.
Having slept on it, I'm still pretty sure that Gordon's going to cling on by his stubby fingernails - he won't leave voluntarily; a weak and financially strapped Lab leader is actually a bonus for the unions, who can now dictate terms, so they're unlikely to insist he goes; and surely nobody in the PLP wants to be Labour's William Hague. Even if Brown *does* go, I don't see any of his potential successors having the...bottle...to say they need a general election in order to have a mandate, so I conclude, depressed, that we're stuck with them until 2010.
Rab C Nesbitt. Series 1 episode 2This episode is called `Rat` and set in a by-election in Govan South where the shitty labour candidate loses to the SNP by a few votes, losing a 10,000 + majority in the process. Nearly a carbon copy of Glasgow east.
The game's up. There's no way back. The stable door is off its hinges. Snottie McTwat's train has hit the buffers - hard.
What's the point of this loser staying in No 10 to be continuously ridiculed by even your own PLP until such time as enough of the find enough backbone to chuck him out? Answer: No point at all. He might as well go now. Obscurity might be a good place to be for a serial failure.
It's only the political end of the union, we'll all still kneel to Lizbet. And if we have to negotiate with Scotland before dodgy wars then cool. I doubt the Jocks would be the ones shying away from a scrap - more likely us lilly livered southern softies. Don't get fooled that politicians know anything. God save Scotland and God save the Queen.
