"DD for Freedom" Campaign Launches Tomorrow

Word is that www.DavidDavisforFreedom.com launches tomorrow and that he is going to wait until after PMQs to jab a question to the clunking fist before he stands down as an MP. Do hope this campaign site is going to be better than his leadership campaign site. That went under the title "Modern Conservatives" and looked ten years out of date...

And rightly so. Brown may have the clunbking fist, but he's yet to pick up the guantlet. Let's just call a spade a spade here - the man is a coward who will no doubt trot out another piss-poor reference to a democratic election being a stunt that turned into a farce.

Much like your premiership then, eh, Gordon?

And have read in that ever-so-reliable rag, The Sun, that Lib Dem peer, Lord Ashdown warns Ireland's no vote could destroy the EUropean Union and branded millions of EU voters as fools. Once a cunt, always a cunt. Put your trousers on now, son. Just take your head out of your arse first.

Hope he is able to score one on the beak for the one eyed snot Gobbler!
So far the snotties have not been able to get anyone to stand...mind you they had better watch out for Davis contacts ex SAS and such like.
Things to sort out:
1) detention without trial compare and contract with South African Apartheid laws
2) Home office ministers apoointing Coroners excluively to exclude those who are disagreeable
3) In camera inquests with no jury
4) ID cards...whose information s safe with a bumbling idiot like GBroon.
5) ID 90 billion cost escalation equals the WHOLE of the NHS budget scooped up in one computer!
6) Innocent DNA...what's it got to do with anyone else then?
7) NHS IT, going up by the minute, productivity falling by the minute...gathering inforation costs health monies!

Good on him! Let's hope the great British public realise that an independent thinking politician is the establishment nightmare.

The establishment is in denial over detention without charge. Little pockets of Guantanamo sprinkled around the counties like an infectious rash.

By the time detention without charge has been extended to council bin monitors and parking wardens - going to put the cat out or buy the fish 'n chips might take far longer than one had anticipated.

Already it has been argued that the consequences of a Muslim handing in "lost" secret papers could be far more serious than for a non-Muslim.

The UN has called on the UK to offer the public a referendum on whether or not we should have a monarchy or a republic with a written constitution. The committee made up of worthy human right standard bearers such as Cuba, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.

As we lower our standards regarding freedom and respect for the law so we allow the predators to inch closer with such hyena calls while they have their political prisoners locked away. Prisoners for whom the UK had once appeared to offer hope and the beacon of a standard to aim for and rally to.

David Davis is damned right about this.

How about 'Sussex Police - Catching Criminals and Enforcing the Law'. We are surrounded by Newspeak. If DD can bring all this into his Freedom debate then excellent.

"How does he make his point when there isn't a credible challenge?"

Nine weeks of Davis, Cameron and Clegg going around calling the writer of "Courage" a coward should do it.

Its never going to look good for an unelected PM to back down from a fight over civil liberties. Its going to make him look like some dark, brooding, menacing, totalitarian big brother figure. Which he is, but now everyone will see it that way.

While we're waiting for David Davis we can do something for ourselves.

I understand that Sarkozy is on his way to Prague to do a bit of arm-twisting with the Czechs. We really have to get behind this and keep the momentum going (especially in light of the fact that Brown persists in ratification here) so I've already emailed the Chancellor and Prime Minister encouraging them to resist the bullying and not ratify the treaty.

The Prime Minister is Mirek Topolanek and his email is posta@vlada.cz

Jiri Weigl is the Chancellor of the Office of President Vaclav Klaus and his email is jiri.weigl@hrad.cz

I urge everyone to email right now and let the Czech people know we are with them in their resistance of the contemptuous and arrogant piece of political chicanery that is the Lisbon Treaty.

This whole 'DD for Freedom' thing would be a lot more resounding if it wasn't for the fact that once he's re-elected, nothing will have changed.

I'd have loved Davis to ran as an Independent Conservative, join UKIP, or start his own Party. Then he would have been a true freedom fighter instead of a Tory MP playing politics.

A noble cause nonetheless.

The fact that Brown will not put up a candidate matters not.

It will prove the point that he is a coward, yes of course! BUT the fact that he will not fight on this particular issue- our freedoms- that he has no regard for the people at all.

A couple of weeks of reports on this blog, and others, and even possibly in the newspapers (But one cannot rely on the tuth through that medium these days)

People will begin to get the message that not only do we have a coward as prime minister but we also have a meglomaniac who wants to control everything.

WHY CANNOT PEOPLE OF ALL POLITICAL PERSUASION WHO BELIEVE IN WHAT DAVIS IS DOING GET TOGETHER --FOR OUR BELOVED COUNTRY -- and CREATE A PARTY OF NATIONAL UNITY.

Once they have been elected (swept to power more like it) and remove from the statute book all the pernicious legislation which is making us slaves, they can dissolve the party and go back to the old politics.

The word "principle" was used upthread to describe DD's stand.

This is precisely why he has been labelled a loon by some of his own colleagues and more especially from the labour benches.

This bunch of snouts in the trough bloodsuckers simply don't recognise the word.

It's not in their vocabulary. We have MPs who tell us to send our kids to bog standard comps. But they went to public or grammar schools themselves, and send their kids to the same.

We have MPs who tell us to watch our wage rises, but award themselves above inflation increases as well as gold plated pensions most people can only ever have wet dreams about.

We have MPs who tell us that crime is falling, but they have round the clock security and in any case, live in nice high priced middle class low crime areas.

So little wonder that when one of their own actually does something on principle, they simply fail to understand it.

Good one, DD. Show them up for what they are. Unprincipled parasites.

Someone suggested 42 was just a number after 28, as in "Whats the fuss the principle was lost at 28"

Its more than thatthough,
it is also a question of what follows what, and what comes next

We had a simple constitution in this country - albeit one unwritten.

It used to be measured as one that protected freedoms.

It was not a constitution that gave positive rights to someone, but instead was framed in the negative and prevented the state from gaining rights - stopped state creepage.

Human Rights, always the beloved tool of the right wing corporation (rather than the liberal), changed that.

Congratulations to DD for putting this issue back where it belongs.

42 days is about freedom from the state and not about human rights.

Liam Fox is getting worried - which shows what a good move Davis has made. Fox would have been in the play-off in 2005 against Cameron, had Cameron not despatched 10 voters to support Davis who he saw as the weaker competitor.

Had Fox been in the play-off against Cameron, he would have won being the more strongly eurosceptic. It was that close.

Davis would not win the leadership in a direct play-off with Fox who is the better communicator. But Davis has one great skill - the ability to strike opponents and wound them.

If he strikes Brown and wounds him now, Labour's election-bottling own knifer in chief, Davis will have huge kudos in the country.

What worries the Conservatives is that Davis might succeed in unseating Brown, who is a sure-fire election winner for Cameron.

There was always the danger that politics might become cross-party with MPs from all sides taking on their leaderships. Politics could be come a very different game if Davis' putsch against Brown works.

The right wing of the Conservative Party could join hands with the left wing of Labour to re-establish democracy.

Stranger things have happened.

What I want to see is some expert opinion on options. If Davis is given a clear campaign what is the damage he can inflict on Labour? One month's hammering must do something...

Conversely, what if Labour field a right-of-centre candidate and fight on a 'save the country' ticket? They might pick up some liberal votes on that, and if they get an increased vote share - say, 18%, they could spin that as a victory.

So I think there is a lot to play for. Labour do not have to win, all they have to do is get more than 12% with the Liberals taken out. Is that too much to ask?

And all the commentators have to do is put their minds in gear and start doing the work they are paid for. Perhaps that IS too much to ask for....

All I know is that a strike of a few days by one of the oil companies, which has no petrol stations in a City, has led to that entire city running out of petrol and diesel.

This despite Browneye's assurances that there was "no need to panic". If there is ever a problem affecting more than one oil company (e.g. this strike spreads) then we are most definitely fucked.

The "strategic agreement" Mitch despairingly refers to sounds great. But on the whole, I'd rather have 50 litres of unleaded than some worthless document when my fuel gauge reads empty (not that Browneye has EVER had to fill a car himself of course).

Now Brown will be confronted with bad publicity about it for the next month at least. They do seem to be having problems with launching the website, with content appearing and then going offline e.g.

http://DavidDavisFrFreedom.com (also .org, .org.uk, .co.uk and DavidDavis4Freedom with the same extensions)

Welcome to my Blog

By info@daviddavisforfreedom.com on Welcome

Welcome to my campaign to preserve our fundamental freedoms.

On 12 June, I resigned from Parliament to take a stand against the sustained assault on British liberty. I resigned after the vote on 42 days, because it marked a watershed. Prolonged detention without charge undermines a fundamental liberty. But it also likely to prove counter-productive - with a range of security experts warning of the security risks presented by this draconian measure. I do not believe we can defend our security by sacrificing our liberty.

My campaign is not, however, just about 42 days. It is about the relentless erosion of our fundamental freedoms over the last eleven years.

The growing power and reach of the state has not made us safer. It has made us less secure.

The growth of the database state has not protected our privacy. As data fiasco after data fiasco demonstrates, reliance vulnerable databases has left our personal data more exposed than ever.

The surveillance society has not improved public protection. Violent crime has doubled under this government, whilst neighbourhood spies check rubbish bins and conduct surveillance on school runs.

And freedom of speech - the hallmark of any democracy - has been stifled by repressive laws. Peaceful protesters have been prosecuted for demonstrating outside Downing Street, whilst extremists have been left free to incite violence and vitriol against Britain for years.

My real fear is that there is worse to come. Having rigged the voted on 42 days - through bribery and bullying - this government will be tempted by the politics of terror to come back and ask for even longer periods of pre-charge detention. And they still plan to introduce ID cards, which will leave us vulnerable to criminal hackers and even terrorists. So I believe it is time to take a stand. But I appreciate there are different views on these important issues - I want to hear them all.

Over the last few days, I have received support from across the political divide on issues that transcend party politics. But most of all, I have been surprised and humbled by the public response, with thousands of people sending messages of support. Today I am launching this website to take this debate to the country. We must preserve our fundamental freedoms. They are the crown jewels of our democracy, part of the very fabric of this great nation. Please join the debate - and send me your views.

Jersey watchers: A right hoo-haa this week trying to resolve itself. The States appears to have accidentally introduced indefinite detention without charge.

The constitutional pundits say that it is more in the nature of cock-up than conspiracy. They were trying to tidy up the rules about which level of police officer could request holding for longer than 24 hours and did this in subordinate legislation. It was then noticed that the introduced wording: 'and may conduct further reviews and authorise further periods of such detention' could be interpretted as allowing indefinite detention, so long as it was reviewed by the detaining officer every twelve hours.

The measure is (probably) unlawful because of clashes with other laws which take precedence, but there is still a scuffle going on to see if it can be rescinded quickly.

So if GB really wants indefinite detention without charge, he can have Jersey as our own Guantanamo. The old holiday camp at Plemont only just got its re-development permission, so there may be a bunch of detention chalets and a waterboarding suite they can use.

For reasons which can only be down to wishful thinking, people on Jersey often say: 'this wouldn't be allowed to happen in England'. Possibly not - here it would be a deliberate piece of moody legislation, not accidental and meant to cope with weekend detentions where the 24 hours runs out on a Saturday night and the person cannot be detained although the police would like more time to investigate the case on an island where they still shut down significantly on the Sabbath.

WOAR - perhaps not accidental bearing in mind the arrest of a former police officer and others in the ghastly unfolding Haut de Garonne case.
Things seem to move so slowly there that 42 days for them may be as 42 minutes for the rest of us.

The Davis site purports to be a blog and DD proclaims on it that "I appreciate there are different views on these important issues - I want to hear them all". Can you leave comments on his blog? Not that I can see.

You can't hear if you haven't got ears.

No online donations. Surely it would take someone fifteen minutes to put up pay pal. Either they have loads of money or they are not prepared.

It's a shame, it could be the nucleus for something big.

Here's a suggestion for a principled opponent for David Davis:

A worthy opponent for David Davis? Someone thinks he's found one - http://donalblaney.blogspot.com/2008/06/viable-opponent-for-david-davis.html
