DD 2.0, Now With Added Diversity

The hastily cobbled together DavidDavisforFreedom site has been revamped over the weekend. Guido is told that Basher will be blogging daily his thoughts. The whole panoply of Facebook links and Twitter feeds are going into place as well.

The thing that struck Guido most though was the addition of diverse faces - the original site was hideously white - this version is multi-cultural. Election day is July 10, turnout is expected to be low. Basher needs to increase his proportion of the vote to justify his campaign - if he reduces his absolute share of the vote he will have humiliated himself.

On the ground the campaign seems a little chaotic, word is that he wants to emphasise advancing a national debate. The trouble is finding someone willing to debate with him...

Maybe some 'Mark Thomas' style stunts around CCTV cameras would do the trick. Or what about that 'privacy' shindig which Mrs Dale went to, in which the 'personal details' of the 'great and the good' were revealed ?

Perhaps he could present embarrassing personal details of Andy Burnham's private life to emphasise how much 'Big Brother' is watching us ?

Praguetory said...

I can't see increasing his share of the vote from 47.5% being much of a problem. He needs a majority of about 20,000 to call the campaign as a success.

The campaign needs one manager/delegater in chief who is a risk taker. Decision-making by committee is not what is needed. There's a lot of interest from non-Tories here in the West Midlands, but if I'm going to get them to come to H&H we need to be clear that there is something to do when we get up there.

NuLab is fucking up our country. As DD says: "There are now 266 state powers allowing officials to force their way into the home. Six hundred public bodies have the authority to bug phones and emails and intercept the post. Forget the security services: councils and quangos conduct 1,000 surveillance operations every month, using powers that ought to be the preserve of law enforcement agencies. Officials in Poole spied for weeks on a family taking their children to school, to check that they lived inside the catchment area. Even our rubbish can now be examined by neighbourhood spooks."

I'm sure I could come up with plenty of arguments in their support. (not that I would actually believe it mind). I love a good argument.

So how about a straw man standing on Labour policy, what fun we could have, highlight every madness, council spies, 42 days, RIPA and all the other shit?

I will send Guido £100 towards anyone standing on that basis, as long as I can come and watch some of the fun.

We could name out candidate the 'Arbeit Macht Frei' candidate.

Now, easy-peasy for a drug-ring to postal vote and take over a parish council with such powers - just to keep an eye on the local police enforcement efforts.

What a fucking mess!

DD's resignation/election is one big V sign to the panparty metropolitan elite who are out to undermine him .

No need therefore to help them in any way Guido even by suggesting that his campaign is "a little chaotic". If its true, I doubt it, well, lots of campaigns are or can be said to be.

DD always strikes me as being pretty well organised.

gordon won't debate the reason for his grubbily won 42 day policy of internment because it is too shameful.
the state introduced these powers to protect itself, not the citizen, from the back-lash caused by its own foreign policy.
I suggest an examination of the effects of internment in northern ireland as a reference for Mr Davis.
gordon brown is encouraging radicalisation and terrorism by forcing this legislation through parliament.
internment will be remembered as brown's biggest mistake.

Apparently local councils can use their 'surveillance powers' to spy on people for offences such as 'littering and dog fouling':

I have to wonder A) what the fuck kind of surveillance technique reveals a 'dog fouler'? Satellite image of dogs ass? Suggestions please...

and B) Who fouls their dog? and how? Tackle from behind? Two footed challenge? Or an off the ball incident?

Anyway, my applause to DD, we are living in a very frightening time, a time of fear and loathing as a man more pissed than myself once said, and that fear and loathing is intensifying by the day.

There were earlier comments wondering who Davis is going to stand against. In fact, he seems to be standing against himself! He is standing on a libertarian ticket, against the withdrawal of 42 day imprisonment without charge, but also FOR 28 day imprisonment without charge!

You couldn't make it up. Basically, he's saying that he wants to be an authoritarian, but not that much of one....

Watervole said...

No that's not the case - I thought the same thing but David pointed out on the TV on Sunday that the 28 days is based on actual experience in actual cases as outlined by the police as their requirement. I agree even 28 days is too long but it was a figure based on reality not political manouevring and let us not lose sight of the overview. The 42 v 28 days argument is not the main point here - it is the creeping loss of civil liberties which is. If you look at the overview, the 42 days is seen in context and the other issues that DD has raised are seen in their true light also.

To suggest that David Davis will have acquitted himself respectably if he manages to secure the same share of the vote as last time is a laughably low hurdle to set.

The principle opposition party in the constituency (i.e. the LibDems) have withdrawn and backed his campaign. The third party is not fielding a candidate. The only candidates running against him are nutters.

If David Davis cannot equal the combined share of the vote achieved by the Tories and the LibDems at the last election (i.e. the two parties backing his campaign), then he will be humiliated.

The campaign has certainly seemed 'chaotic' to this local.

I had heard there was a meeting at a local school on Saturday with DD and Benn speaking and thought I would go. However, I could find no info on the website and my email request for confirmation was never answered, so I didn't go.(However, there is now a video of the event on the revamped site).

I also signed up for the newsletter and haven't as yet heard a dickie bird.

Unless the campaign moves up a couple of gears very quickly, the whole thing could get rather embarrassing.

Sam Tana said...

@ Cassandra - what do you expect this election to achieve? If (as I expect) he's returned with an increased majority, Labour will simply continue to dismiss the whole thing (rightly) as a stunt and ignore him. If he's returned with anything but an increased majority, he'll be a laughing stock.

Meanwhile, what choices does this election give to those "lucky" few with a vote? If you deplore the 42-days issue you might well want to support a pro-civil liberties candidate, but David Davis's version of "civil liberty" is a joke - he's not in favour of it, he just wants to be the one who sets the limits. Those limits are a long way to the fascist right of where I'd put them.

If you're a Tory who supports 42-days (as many do) you're left to choose between voting for someone you don't support or in favour of DD's position, which you don't support.

Don't for a second imagine that DD's stunt has anything to do with democracy - not even the laughable sham of a democracy we "enjoy" in the UK. It's about politics.

Meanwhile, the constituents of Haltemprice and Howden are left high and dry with no representation, and paying for ringside seats at the circus.

How to create the diverse mixture that was critically important to Guido Fawkes:

A medieval Community Cohesion Officer looked at saltpetre and concluded that it was hideously white. After much thought, he decided to grind it finely with some black in the form of charcoal.

After reading the latest guidelines on chemical harmony, he considered the black/white mixture too polarised and added a middle tint of yellow, for which he chose sulphur.

Now he was ecstatic at his achievement: "What a truly diverse mixture I have created!"

"White, Black and Yellow all happily mingling together in truly cohesive, multichromic society!" He exclaimed in delight.

Shortly afterwards a loud explosion was heard and a vacancy for a Diversity Officer created.

DD is rocking the boat, the Political Class and their parasites (journalists etc) don't like that at all.

To quote a post from the CiF thread on whether the UK could become a dictatorship. Posts "Roger" Jun 22 08, 07:06pm :
The frustration of people is directed at New Labour.

The anger of people should be directed at the Conservatives.

The UK is moving towards authoritarian government because there is an absence of contrast in its political choices. This is exclusively the fault of the opposition party.

The spontaneous, popular outburst of joy which met David Davis' principled stand on 42 day detention was nothing more than an expression of the public's huge relief at finding a genuine and passionate voice of opposition speaking from an effective institution.

Before that moment, the public searched in vain for such a voice in the institution of the BBC or in the pre-packaged, focus-grouped stance taken (and expressed) by the Conservative opposition.

I feel VERY angry that the Conservative party is refusing to provide me and the British public with a loud, articulate and impassioned voice - which speaks out in opposition the New Labour and offers us a clearly-defined alternative political philosophy.

In a sense, today's Conservative party is far worse than the one Thatcher led. Under Cameron, the Tories are uninterested in finding, exciting and inspiring the will of the people with compelling alternatives to consider. Instead, the party appears more concerned with playing subtle political chess within parliament, flirting 'green' politics whilst it relies on New Labour cock-ups from which it plans to win power by default.

The Conservative party is the natural home of 'individual liberty', of individual responsibility, of small state and of the freedom of expression... all natural, and powerful

counterbalances to crushing authoritarianism of New Labour... and yet (apart from Davis) the party is neutered and silent-of-meaning to the voters.

My fear is that Cameron is quietly rubbing his hands in glee at the huge amount of control he will soon inherit from Brown. All very well, but it is the British public who are starved of ideas and the Tories are to blame.

Says it all IMHO.

just one big lie to oppress the British to except wave after wave of immigrants in order to fragment society to make it easier for the new world order and the eu section of it to destroy our nations and our independance and democracy.

I hope Gary elsby watches too as marxism is destroyed totally.
Are you a victim of neo marxism without even knowing it? Take the test watch the short video.

That photograph of David Davis on his campaign website must have been takem at least 10 years ago.

Either that or he has been airbrushed out of all recognition. I thought they only did that with fashion models.

In real life he looks like a wrinkled walnut.

I wish you would learn how to punctuate correctly. Like your blog, your grammar is shite.

I have just finished watching Her Royal Highness Chubby Bliar with some outsize Indian on the Beeb whining on about some new charity she's on for WIDOWS!! How many bloody widows has that woman's family caused in the last 5 years? That grasping slag is completely and utterly SHAMELESS.

"Tory candidate suspended after praising Ian Smith and calling Edward Heath "a rat"."

It seems to me that Cameron is desperately seeking to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by his PC fuckwittery. And if one should doubt that fuckwittery is what it is, one only needs read this shite:-

"David Cairns, the Scotland Office Minister, branded the Tory candidate's comments "utterly disgraceful", saying at the current time they played into the hands of Mr Mugabe".

WTF? Are facts completely dispensable now, and since when did it matter to any of the cunts in high political office what Mugabe does? As someone rightly pointed out in the Herald comments, had Ian Smith done a fraction of what the black butcher has done, British troops would have gone in long ago.

Dave - the era of PC is dead - we have had it up to here - your candidate spoke the simple truth, something that has been in dire deficiency, and don't think we haven't noticed.
Shape up or fuck off.
