+++ Speaker Loses High Court Expenses Cover-Up Bid +++

The High Court has ruled that a detailed breakdown of MPs' additional costs allowances must be provided under the Freedom of Information Act.

So that was £100,000 of public money wasted on stopping the public finding out what happened to their money.

So now we will find out what all the party leaders fiddled claimed...

About time too - can the court get the Mumbler to pay the costs, I wonder?

I suppose the duplicitous trough dwellers will use ECHR Legislation in the Euroepan Courts of "Justice" to overturn this?

How Martin or any of the other expense grabbing shits can actually look the Taxpayer in the face is beyond me.

At least the Labour MP in my area is standing down at the next election - he has cited "the abuse he has taken" from certain members of the public in his constituency as his main reason.

This old Labour tart has had over £750,000* in expenses since 2001 - & I think after this came to light his number was up.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!

Let's hope that this is the final nail in the political coffin of Gorbals Prick.

Arrogant, useless sucker of Satan's cock that he so obviously is.

Well let's hope this news is enough to cheer one's self up.

Having just been out in the cold, wet, miserable weather, it brought me down in a bump from the warm sunny weather that came with the elctoral victory of the Tories.

Now it's back to the grind of a Labour government hell bent of finding yet more of the feckless and stupid to give our cash to.

And running it all we have the 'divine' leader (he promoted himself recently), after all he is religious (son of manse etc) and so must have a hot line to you-know-who upstairs.

He KNOWS how to get us out of a problem - surely Gordon it is better than that - surely it blindingly obvious to you?

And watch out for the man-hole cover that has been removed when you next deign to walk (float?) down a crumbling street in your kingdom of the new Jerusalem.

Good grief! The courts have finally turned on their paymasters! They must realise that the game is up for Labour and the time has come to bite the hand that feeds them.

Could be a great time to reel Blair in for war crimes.

I'm not sure about all this.

I would prefer the country being run by MP's (elected) rather than meedia types(unelected).

No one is pointing to Bolt-on's £500k a year and nice easy job - power with NO responsibility.

This "scandal" is all playing into unelected meedja type hands and taking power AWAY from our elected representatives.

MP's earn c £60k basic. They have to work to get re-elected. They're not allowed to get up to things in their private life. A WATO journo was tried (and aquited) for male rape this year and still has a job at the BBC and no one has heard of him.

Could you imagine an MP still having a job after such a trial?

An MP done for drink driving would lose his job at the next election (wrongly in my opinion).

MP's are paid too little as a basic. Expenses were a way round this. There may be a strong case for the number of MP's to be reduced by say, 200 to arround 430 odd. With productivity led pay-rises for the remainder.

Remember at the end of the day YOU can sack your MP. You cannot sack the Nick Robinsons/Boltons of the meedjia. You don't even know who the news producers/editors that set the news agenda are let alone have any power to sack them.

This is great news.

A message to the Conservative officials reading this: It's time to be open and transparent with the public. We've had the light shine in on the dealings of MP's of all parties and we are not going to stand for this sort of "snouts in the trough" behaviour any more. See sense and put some daylight between yourselves and the corrupt pigs of the other parties. If you find any of your MP's indulging in this behaviour, sack them.

Gordon Brown is a secret Bee Gees fan. He listens to their music everyday, and his favourite tracks include "Stayin' Alive" and "Tragedy".

I think my irony meter has just exploded!

@10:53 Tend to agree with you. If I considered MPs as salesmen for the nation, I would consider that the difference between a good sales team for UK PLC could be £1trillion over ten years. That's £100 billion per annum. Or about £100million per MP per annum. So £1million per annum to attract people of the right calibre isn't so much to pay. Of course, £1million per annum for the twats that are in charge today would be laughable, but if you want to get rid of twats like these, you need to incentivise the people that know what they are doing. These twats would be killed in the rush if top notch people were incentivised to become MPs.

I reckon the Tories are going to be found out as the greedy bastards they always were, Labour have gradually taken advantage of and abused their power but the tories always took advantage, they consider it a birth right to steal from the poor, it's inbred into them.

fuck Labour, fuck the Tories, the political class cunts, and especially the super elite unaccountable communist parisites on the EU gravy train.

You fucking Tory sheep are not blameless either, you have played your part in keeping these usless cunts in their seats as they dismantled democracy and accountability for a place on the gravey train, rather than demanding this to have been sorted out decades ago.

you get the goverment you deserve, you voted for cunts you got cunts.

Maybe when they lose/capitulate on the 42-day detention vote ?

Hurrah! There is a God. A bit of bright news to lighten these doom-laden days. Now, lets see fat cunt Martin being made to pay back the £100k.
I actually don't believe MPs are worth even the £60k basic they are paid. The EUSSR makes all our laws now, so most of the useless treasonous bastards are surplus to requirements.

The Speaker will have appealed in his role as head of the House of Commons Commission, which is the body that calls the shots.

Therefore the personal attack on the individual are somewhat wide of the mark, fun though it may be to encourage them.

I know this blog isn't a place for fairness, bgut a little accuracy would help at times.

Dear tone made me do it

Ahem, isn't the crucial part of your nasty little diatribe that the "WATO journo" was ACQUITTED? That is to say, Nigel Wrench was not guilty or, in other words, innocent of the charge. He had done nothing wrong. Thus it seems quite reasonable that the BBC should continue to employ him. You may not like - I may not like - the apparently sordid way that he gets his jollies, but that's no reason to condemn or sack him.

Or do you live in a world where for the Police merely to arrest someone means that they are, by definition, guilty of whatever the Police want to charge them with? Surely the Channel 4 case yesterday, to take but one example, should shake your apparent implicit faith in the filth.

Hang 'em high said...

I've said it before, but I'll say it again:

1) MPs should each be paid their average earnings in the five years before they entered Parliament. That way competent people could become MPs without losing income, and the useless cannot use public office as a way of getting rich.

2) The Commons should buy a large block of flats, a few miles from Westminster (it'll do them good to join the rest of us in experiencing commuting); one flat for each non-London MP, so no need for any living allowances.

You know it makes sense.

Anonymous said...

Tone made me do it - he's a bad influence (you need a shorter name!) says he prefers MPs to media types. There is a big difference - media types (with exception of f8ckin BBC) are ripping off the buyers of their product. But you don't have to buy it - it's your choice. The f8ckin BBC of course is diiferent - we are all forced to buy their crap - if we want a tellie in the house, that is.

I'm not forced to pay for the media. My taxes do fund politicians. Furthermore, I don't see why politicians should be paid so much money to interfere in our lives. If they started repealing more laws than they created I might synpathise with them getting paid more.

He's bound to appeal. Hope he loses that too.

This from today's Daily Telegraph:

"Today's decision is likely to form a legal precedent requiring other MPs to follow suit, though there will be no immediate publication.

Lawyers for the Commons are understood to be arguing that no action should be taken for at least a week as they consider options for a further appeal."

Note the phrase "at least a week". Ha bloody ha - they are going to string this out ad infinitum.

Fairness? I would like to see a bit more fairness for the poorly paid, who's taxes are going to fund the excesses of the political classes. Our MPs don't seem to consider the fairness when they claim up to the maximum allowed, then use our money to try to keep it secret. Nothing to hide, nothing to fear.......

Y E E H A H !

Finally!

The judiciary are starting to see the way the wind is blowing.

They know that people are starting to 'ignore' laws that they don't agree with because.....HEY!.......that's what politicians do, with impunity!

It doesn't take many people 'ignoring' laws before those laws become unenforceable ...witness the Rangers fans in Manchester, drinking in public......which is against the law, but how were the police going to stop 100,000 people from getting rat arsed?

So why shouldn't we all try to embezzle our taxes?

If it's OK for politicians and Fat Cat Corporations.....why not us?

And that way lies anarchy; and the judges know it.....hence, their change of heart.
After all, if we have anarchy....who do you think are the first up against the wall?

Politicians, lawyers....& Judges!

This whole business of MP's accomodation needs sorting out NOW.

Non london MPS should get a 1 bedroom flat to crash out in. Every constituency should have a very modest constituency apartment for the use of MPs who are not local to that constituency.

not sure I agree with non local MPs anyway, would have thought the original idea was for a local person to present local problems/voice at Westminster.

Do you think our Politicians would be better behaved if the Populace had their weapons returned like they do in Switzerland.
If our Politicians and Police can't Protect us we ought to be allowed to.
An SA80 for any ex serviceman, police officer and any member of the Public with a 10 yr non violent criminal record.
That might put Burglary rates down and Make our Politicians think twice about abusing us and our troops.
Do you think Politicians should work for free, that way it would be done by people who wanted to do it, perhaps Part time and couldn't create as many stupid laws to screw up our lives.

Talk about pigs and troughs, at paragraph 42 of the High Court judgment it is stated that - "there is evidence which suggests that one MP claimed ACA for a property which did not exist, and yet further evidence may demonstrate that on occasions MPs claiming ACA were letting out the accommodation procured from the ACA allowance".
Talk about corrupt and fraudulent behaviour!!!

The judgment states:
"For example, there is evidence which suggests that one MP claimed ACA for a property which did not exist, and yet further evidence may demonstrate that on occasions MPs claiming ACA were letting out the accommodation procured from the ACA allowance."
Note the word 'evidence' in this JUDGMENT. These are the words of Appeal Court Judges, not idle speculation by bloggers. This is as clear a case of fraud as you can get. Why are the police not investigating this? Does all crime now have to be 'referred' to the police before they instigate action? If the police don't start action, Guido, put together a Private Prosecution and I'll be the first contributor. These MPs are scum of the lowest order and they're dragging us all down into the gutter with them.

Perhaps the most important statement by the judge

http://timesonline.typepad.com/politics/2008/05/the-high-courts.html

Once legislation which applies to Parliament has been enacted, MPs cannot and could not reasonably expect to contract out compliance with it, or exempt themselves, or be exempted from its ambit. Such actions would themselves contravene the Bill of Rights.

In otherwords if you pass a law for the public you should be expected to follow it.

Just stop complaining and put your hand in your pockets you undeserving bunch of idiots.

The real piss-takers are the people who just will not work, and claim benefits and any state hand-outs they can get their hands on. Have you wondered why 45% of your Council Tax goes on subsidising other people's housing? You have no prospect of ever receiving any service form such a large proportion of this tax and yet, you still pay it!

Your all mugs and you deserve the government you've got.
