Punters are backing Boris to have more than 40% and Ken to have between 35% to 40%.
Des Browne is chanting on Question Time "there is no issue of Gordon's leadership" clearly this mantra is the offical "line to take".

Richard Littlejohn just right-hooked Polly Toynbee with a counter-punch when she asked what did he know about people on average wages. he retorted with an inquiry about her flights to her villa in Italy. She looked shaken and said "lets not get into this way". Oh please do...

I see that conservativehome ( http://www.conservativehome.blogs.com/ )has already called it for Boris!
Brave or foolhardy?
Crossing my fingers etc
CON GAIN
If Boris Johnson can win, then across Britain a monkey with a blue rosette can get elected.
I'm staggered that Boris was able to avoid saying anything truly stupid for three whole months.
It's pretty clear that the man is a halfwit, highly likeable and quite clever but a halfwit nonetheless.

Probably true - but given the standard of the current mob, what can you expect?
Come on you can do better than that. Boris - a half wit? They don't make halfwits Kings Scholars at Eton. Is it possible you have overlooked something?
Anonymouses (?) 10.48 and 10.51.
Good to see you have such faith in our electoral system and a healthy respect for the will of The People, Comrades!
The more people say "we must defend the leader" and "there is no issue of Gordon's leadership" the more they make it an issue. However Des Browne is certain for the chop and has no credibility anywhere.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not disputing that he's clever, utterly charming and hilarious to watch but there's definitely something odd about him.
I'd class him as more of a buffoon than a halfwit. A bit like bertie wooster with worse hair and a bizarrely posh speech impediment.
He'll make a marvellous mayor but I fervently hope they don't ever give him launch codes...
Question time
Just heard Littlejohn ask Toynbee
"Do you worry about the climate when you fly to your second home in Italy?"
Magic. Pleeeeeeeeeeease someone put it on Youtube!
Loved the hit on Polly - she her head fell. She was boo'd by the audience. Silly bitch, bet she goes 1st class so she doesn't have to mix with all the people she is saving.
"It's pretty clear that the man is a halfwit, highly likeable and quite clever but a halfwit nonetheless."
I of all people am hardly an apologist for any kind of harrystocracy, or hoity toity even of the reverse kind.
I can however read and research, it's pretty clear he is considerably more than a halfwit. Projection anyone?
With an £11.3 Billion budget he should be able to come up with all sorts of wheezes to avoid his Aunt Agatha's plans to marry him off to Honoria Glossop.
But what Ken doesn't graps is that there are a lot of us who would happily vote for a joker over him. Would Bertie Wooster make a worse job of London than him? Depends how much you believe in the importance of politicians

Labour shites preparing for meltdown, poor loves: http://www.bloggers4labour.org/
Does Polly Toynbee have her own flat at Television Centre? She, like Blunkett, spends most of her time there.
Great jibe by Littlejohnson, though. Class.

Why at 4.53am UK time is the key headline on bbc news website NOT the election results?

It's a hap-hap-happy day.....
Anonymous 11:11pm etc.
Having Bertie as Mayor would be perfect. Jeeves in charge and Spode routed.
Can you start up 'Where's Gordon" TM again?
Guido,
Excellent effort. Congratulations, this has radically changed the way we look at politics and the political process.
And, no, I'm not taking the piss - I'm serious for a change.
Fuck me, its like 1997 all over again. Labour to save the day from the tories. Fast forward 2008 and its Conservatives to save the day for Britain from Labour.
Bollocks. Will be the same old shit, same agenda same fucking everything. I will still have to go on a diversity course every year still made to feel like a second class citizen in my own country, its complete bollocks. The country needs radical change, and it will happen soon enough!
"It's pretty clear that the man is a halfwit, highly likeable and quite clever but a halfwit nonetheless."
He's eccentric and individual but not a halfwit and he's basically honest politically. He also isnt surrounded by a coterie of leeches sucking money from the London budget. Roll on Boris.
Guido you should do this liveblogging lark for PMQs! An alternative to the slightly more restrained commentary on Conservative home.
Overall, what a stunning result for Cameron.
I hope Mrs Brown has hidden all the pills and enptied the cutlery drawer this morning.
Nice to see all the early 'no crisis' statements from Geoff Hoon and Des Browne. Next will be:-
* Really its just as expected.
* Just mid-term blues.
* Nothing at all to worry about.
* Temporary blip.
* Gordon is listening.
* Bounce back.
* Still time to recover.
* It's a message that we need to drive forward even harder.
* We should emphasise our very real achivements.
* You cant just translate this into a General election
* These were local elections fought on local issues not national policy (aka its no my fault guv)
* The Party will be a little upset but now is the time to stick together for the benefit of the country.
Anyone opened a book yet on our esteemed PM being gone by the end of this month?
this is what the Sun thinks
http://thecrownblogspot.blogspot.com/2008/05/sun-early-morning-headline.html
Can anybody suggest a way I can print out this live cover please? I've only just come across it and the scrolling is driving me crazy.
Connoisseurs may like to savour hoon the buffoon, trying to categorise the result as people still wanting nulab to run the country, priceless. What a worthless cunt !
Just spotted that Labour lost control in Torfaen (Pontypool to the uneducated)
That is how bad this is for them
Guido, well done for running the LiveChat last night. Truly hilarious!
I look forward to PMQ's - good call.
Memo to Gordon

Click on Jobseekers Allowance. We have made the forms quite complex to deter frivolous claims but perhaps James Purnell can help you fill them in.
You may also qualify for Family Tax Credit but organised crime stole a lot of the money allocated to this and we have had to give a lot more to our friends in the city because you have been so profligate with your borrowing. But dont worry have just increased your tax to balance it all out.
Sorry.
Whilst the Tory results are excellent and getting better by the minute, it should not be overlooked that the LibDims on +12have an embarassing mess on their hands with the majority of the non-Tory protest vote going to independents. A fine start for Calamity Clegg.
Will Vince Cable be wielding the bloody carrot, again, whilst preparing for another stint in the caretakers offfice?
Did you hear Harridan Harpy on Today, blaming the banks and supermarkets? She complained that the banks had "lended" too much money.
Lended.
Remind me again, which high office does this creature infest?
She was cacking her knickers, an activity which is no doubt widespread this morning in the ranks of her colleagues, all of whom are wondering how they got saddled with that pusillanimous Scotch twat, No-Good Brrwn. The answer? Why, they are pusillanimous themselves and let Scrotum and his thugs suppress the leadership election last year!
Given the total meltdown of New Labour vote at the local elections, the outcome of the election for London Mayor can now only result in 'win-win' situation for those of us who hate this corrupt New Labour government, regardless of who actually wins the Mayoral race.
A Boris win is, of course, preferable and would have the benefit, the sheer joy, of getting rid of sleazy Ken. It would have a ripple effect, delivering a near fatal blow to the arrogant, out of touch, London-centric Guardinista / BBC class of champagne socialists. It will engender panic within the ranks of the Labour Party's overpaid, non-job lackeys in metropolitan town halls, quangos and the like, organisations on which these people are financially dependent. If Boris wins today he must concentrate on delivering 'essential' services while undertaking a high profile, well publicised cull of these New Lab non jobbers at City Hall from day one. No mercy, no prisoners.
If Ken wins, PM Broon having surrounded himself with a cabinet of no-marks and nobodies, will be faced with the reality that the only Labour politician of significance in the county left standing, is sleazy Ken. But unlike Broon, Ken will have in his pocket a fresh mandate from the electorate. Broon despises Ken. But Ken won't mind that. Ken is too much of an operator not to take advantage of the situation to pursue whatever madcap schemes he has waiting for us whether Broon likes these or not. Between them, Broon and Ken will render a Labour government unelectable for a generation. Great stuff!
What are the odds on a leadership run against Broon soon folks?
Thanks for drawing my attention to the Toynbee Littlejohn spat Guido. Just watched it on BBC Iplayer. It's 28 Minutes into the programme if anybody's interested.
With unbelievably insensitive timing,
Tony Blair and Condi Rice are in the capital today, for a meeting of the Quartet Group...
It is almost as if it is designed to remind Labour what they have lost and to rub their noses in the fact that he doesn't have to worry about local, parochial, piffling concerns like, er - getting people to vote at council elections...
My my my - how the worm does turn..
Much as I have enjoyed the castration of new labour, the absolute highlight of the evening for me was the Littlejohn 'flights to Italian villa' comment to that hypocritical, arrogant champagne-socialist Toynbee.
Like him or loathe him, that comment neatly expressed grass roots sentiment just now. It exposed the arrogance of new labour and their sad apologists, for all to see. She had no answer.
On Boris
"It's pretty clear that the man is a halfwit, highly likeable and quite clever but a halfwit nonetheless."
Considering his talent for comedy surely he is a whole wit?

Anyone else think that Jowell looked like Cousin It from the Addams family last night?
