Joined Up Government or Daily Dithering?
The Treasury's Kitty Ussher has just given an interview to Bloomberg TV saying Britain's financial sector needs more new migrants the very day after the Home Office put up a new set of hurdles to slow the number of people coming into the country. "It's absolutely crucial that we bring skilled people in,'' Ussher told Bloomie today, "When we have difficult economic times, we need to search all over the world to find the people we need.''
A month ago the government introduced a points-based migration system to cut migrant numbers. In March, the Home Office ran advertisements announcing "the biggest shake-up of the immigration system in 45 years.'' They showed a picture of a series of hurdles, each labeled "New Immigration Controls.'' Yesterday Liam Byrne announced new regulations to make it even more difficult for companies to employ skilled migrants. Consistency? Consistently incompetent...

Boris has just banned drinking on the tube. Good man. Mrs Street has had a number of unpleasant experiences on the Northern Line and hopes the ban will soon be extended to wanking as well.
Why don't they reform the welfare state first? You get workers and less outlay in benefits. Unless the point of immigrants is to pay for the benefits system.
I hope that drinking will be banned on mainline trains too. (For George Street at 1.07)
As for immigration ? Be under no illusions - mass immigration is exactly what Nu Lab wants.
The immigration policy further announced today is more about weeding out the lesser skilled rather than the specialist workers Kitty highlighted.
But then the immigration policy announcement was intended to be heard by your Daily Mail readers and similar who think Britain is full.
I'd say these announcements were not meant to be joined up, so this is not another government cock-up per se
Wendy Alexander wants a straight referendum (in/out) on a Scottish independence referendum before 2010.
I'm in favour of it, not least because it would be impossible for Gordon to continue in the English Parliament with a parliamentary seat in another country.
Labour did take Slough in last weeks council elections. They are going to need a lot more immigrants though to take any more council seats in the south.
A previous poster was right o say there is a difference between skilled and unskilled immigration. But he is naive. The Govt is seeking to be all things to all people. That is what New Labour is about. So Usher bleats about needing skilled workers, while Snot Gobbler bleats "British Jobs for British Workers". never mind banning booze on the tube - let's keep the hard stuff away from our policy makers!
Look at the MPAC website and it is obvious.
This crap will make it difficult for the needed, skilled workers to get in but won't make any difference to the illegals or "extended family" immigration of even more Islamic extremists who New Labour are counting on to vote for them and bolster their nasty regime.
They know this will result in more acts of terror here hence their insistence on extended detention. All part of a pre-planned conspiracy to stay in power regardless. Like a wolf chewing off its own leg to escape a snare.
Mr Street
As a man who both wanks and consumes alcoholic beverages on the tube(it makes the journey bearable) I can only state how dissapointed I am in Boris the so called libertarian, I have a funny feeling he is even more of a stalinist than livingstone.
There is no real shortage skilled people in the UK, just a shortage of very cheap, young ones that can be abused.
Far too many lies are told about not being able to find people. If employers want good people then they should consider the over 40 (35 in IT) or people that have a less that perfect working record such as medical problems or women rejoining the work force.
What is the point of anyone investing in their skills if their working lives are not long enough to cover than investment before they are dumped and replaced by a migrant? What is the long-term effect on tax revenue or social security spending if large parts of the population can be culled from the workforce like this?
The nuLieBore regime don’t care they just want the bribes that go with allowing it to happen. The Conservative won’t oppose because they hope to get their hands on the same bungs if they ever manage to get back into power.

'Jasper wants to challenge Hoey'.
They really do not get it do they ?
Ejected from office for being a sleazy on the take scumbag , decides his next mission is to challenge one of the very few labour MP's whos integrity is unquestioned and who is regarded as a good constituency MP.
George - just read your blog. It's ace.
"hopes the ban will soon be extended to w*nking as well"
Clearly the good Mrs Street has never been to Tokyo where open self-abuse is pretty much de rigeur for morning commuters there.
So her solution to a recession, where demand for labour decreases, is to increase the supply?
No wonder we're so far up shit creek it's off the map.
After the uprising of the 17th of June
The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?
This government HAVE chosen to dissolve the people and IMPORT another.
I did not read about shoot to kill for barristers in Boris's election manifesto. Who is next?
I used to wank into my can of stella innit!
Kitty Ussher has just returned from maternity leave so she could ascribe her apparent policy contradiction to "baby brain"?

Oh Tuscan one,
Like myself, most of your working life is spent at home thus enabling us to knock out a swift 50off the wrist or guzzle a nice litre of wine at 8 am in the pricay of our own home offices just to get us ready for the day. Sadly our poor short sighted little yellow salaryman freinds who dont have the opportunity to enjoy such luxuries have to make do with frottage and a nip of Suntory whisky on the early morning tokyo underground commute.
Serves them right for Pearl Harbour.

I don't think your average dole scrounging NEET would come very highly on the financial sectors list of skilled labour.
If you needed some windows broken or something set alight they'd be just right for the job
New Labour have no long term strategy for the UK. New Labour are incapable of coherent thought for long term planning.
To build up skilled work in the UK you would need to support employers to meet their skilled staffing and other needs e.g. by running applicable courses. You would be looking to have measures to keep them in the UK instead of labours lassie faire approach.
The new ruling will only affect Non EU immigrants - probably a few tens of thousands. The bulk of immigrants will as always have little or no skills being anyone from the EU and relatives of existing immigrants. The bulk of immigrants need low skills because we are service economy and that's mainly what we have to offer. This is proved by the huge number of low skilled entrants then and now.
anon 3:20pm "labours lassie faire approach"
Is that also known as dog-whistle politics?
there are many qualified workers with years of experience that are like myself born and bred english.
Our crime is to be 40+.Employers do not want to pay sensible wages so we have to work for ourselves and cheap fodder are brought in.As usual it is all about penny pinching and short termism. It is no wonder the uk is suffering from a brain drain.Shortly we will have no experienced staff,no investment,no industry and no future.
Don't ban drinking on the main line for fuck sake!
The gobby bunch of parasitic, loud-mouthed, degenerate, pusillanimous wankers who represent the labour north east constituencies are a constant source of good info on certain trains after a sniff of the barmaid's apron. How else would we learn about Milburn and Byers's plotting?
Watch for the real relaunch of those two plus fat gobshite Clarke! Coming to screens near you soon!
bofl @ 4.36 - Spot on! The country is riddled with clueless self-serving young tossers one career step ahead of their last idiotic decision. Just look at the cabinet. Sums it all up really.
Little Miss Kitty, another little girl lording it over us. It may suit Gordo to have inexperienced lightweights around him. As a citizen I want quite the opposite.
I wouldn't put Miss Kitty in charge of the bike sheds.
Such controls might make sense if it applied to all immigration, but it does not. In the mind of the EUdenrat Federasts, the UK is but a province, so immigration rules only apply to non-EU arrivals.
Result? Curry houses being coerced to take E Europeans.
