Is this Really Why Fiona Gordon is Going?

From January to June 2007 HM Treasury staff took an average of 166 days off per month due to stress-related illnesses. From July to December 2007 HM Treasury staff took an average of 106 days off per month due to stress-related illnesses. The stress levels dropped off dramatically from the moment when Gordon went from the Treasury to No. 10.
Fiona Gordon, Political Secretary to the PM, is leaving this summer. The spin is because she wants to do other things. In fact, Guido is reliably informed, it is because she bears the brunt of most of Gordon's mobile phone flinging tantrums. It was she who procured and failed to secure David Pitt-Watson for the General Secretaryship of the Labour Party. Some Labour activists suspect she is now the real acting General Secretary of the Labour Party. As Gordon's henchwoman it should be remembered that, if the Crewe campaign ends in disaster and Gordon tries to deny his active direction of it, Steve McCabe, the orchestrator of the campaign, is Fiona's other half. The nasty party campaign comes directly from Downing Street...

If pb.com is to be believed she might not be the only one leaving gordons office this summer.

bye bye snotgobbler!

At first I thought that was a new nick-name for the PM :-)

The Crewe campaign is a disgrace, McCabe should be sacked.

Guido - just been doing a bit of research with some 'vocational' students (i.e. the thick ones who've been persuaded to do GNVQ type stuff) that the best way to sort that tag of yours is to 'get the GHDs on it, sir'. I'm not at all sure what this means. Do you want me to research it in more detail?

Be assured, be very assured. If Labour lose the Crewe and Nantwich by-election it will ALL be the fault of Steve McCabe. It will NOT be an anti Gordon vote.

'The stress levels dropped off dramatically from the moment when Gordon went from the Treasury to No. 10.' - and provide a nice symmetry with the polls.

Guido, a couple of points.

1) How many staff are there in the Treasury?

2) what is defined as Stress related illness?

Finally, I'm surprised the stress levels dropped, they exchanged a control freak for a halfwit, neither knew what they were/are doing

I think McCabe is too dim to realise that Brown has set him up as the fall guy for what was always going to be a bad result.

Steve MCCabe is the man who brought the Whigs back into politics (or at least wigs)

Have I got this right Guido? A Treasury employee, a public servant, involved in recruiting the General Secretary for a political party??? We know Labour are facing bankruptcy but that's no excuse for yet more misuse of public funds.

Its far easier to work for a half wit than someone who is a bully. Brain the size of a Universe and look at what idiots surround me!

Anon - 9:51am "what was always going to be a bad result.".

Not sure about that, even the arch-luminary of the Westminster village, the Guido hisself, tells his breathless audience that he invested a couple of sovs in a Lab win at C&N recently (since laid off we are told)

Darling is said to be quite benign - he doesn't know what he is doing of course but he could be stil be easy to work with in spite of that.

As for Asperger's , now thats another story--

Steve McCabe's website says of him, "Working hard for Billesley, Brandwood and Hall Green". To which it seems may now be added, "...and the eclipse of the Labour Party".

Who the Fuck advised Gordon to go for a by-election quicky?

Any fool could see it would be better to wait 2 days longer to see what the local election results were and the reasons behind the results. He didn't even wait until Dunwoody senior was in her grave.

Gordon broke a lifetimes dithering habit, sinned in haste and is now repenting at leisure.

OT Brown's bin Nazis are getting worse here in Wiltshire. I caught some toothless, chav binman berating my elderly neighbour this morning for mistakenly putting one tin can in her bin instead of the recycling box. He was threatening to have her prosecuted and telling her it was his job to "re-educate" the public.

I told him I would rip his fucking head off if he didn't stop abusing her following which he shut his gob and cleared off.

We have to get up off our knees and stand up to these arrogant scum.

Wll I think its brilliant you really would have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at Ms Double-barreled-Dunthinking's campaign.
She is just a poor working class single mother of five in the same way as Her Maj is a german refugee.Lives in a different country inherited her candidacy from her late mum, granny was in the Lords and all the rest of itand still the daft bint thinks she fool us. At least Timmo doesn't have the hypocrisy to deny his background and if he did have 80 foster sibs his family has done more for the poor than St Gwynneth and all her tribe.Hope they lose their vulgar xenophobic authoritarian deposit.

Good for you Dave... no seriously, you should be given a medal.

These idiots go on about a stupid tin can or a bin lid left open like any minute the American's are going to launch missiles against us. Get some prospective... better still, sack the lot of them.

Guido Alert:
wee Steve McCabe has 2 photos of himself with unelected PM, unelectable Gordon Brown on Steve's website. Ready material for your Friday caption contest.

Is the presence of 2 Rockin Gordo pics on a Lab MP's website a record, given that most of them do not seem to be bothered to post a pic of themselves with Jonah Brown.
Ominously, there is no mention of partner Fiona Gordon on the site. Probably off with some Toff???.

bit off topic but could be fun

If you search Google for "tamsin dunwoody" she has a Google advert at the top of the page.

I wonder how much it costs them every time somebody clicks on it.

we are reaching the end of the road - they won't prosecute someone who vandalises your car, but they will on this: "Teenager faces prosecution for calling Scientology 'cult'"

Maybe Dunwoody Junior is deliberately throwing the by-election to finish off her mum's work in bringing down New Labour.

On the other hand, you can raise placards saying Islam is the future, placards inciting violence etc and the cops just watch.

The winner of the next election will be the ones who promise to end the PC tyranny, prosecute and punish criminals, halt illegal immigration and stick up two fingers to the EU's more idiotic rules. Oh, and put the shiftless to work.

The question when one looks at this graph is "what is the denominator?"

Civil Service "management" runs a mile from addressing grievances about bullying as that: a) would take some skill and b)might expose those at the top for what they are. It is much easier to fork out taxpayers money on severance packages and replace the regular workforce with "consultants". The latter are much more expensive but can be hidden as "programme costs" and, Hallelujah, they don't feature in sickness absence figures which is handy if you have a target to reduce these.

It reminds me of when your boss disappears for the day and you end up just chatting at your desk instead of working; it's a big stress buster when the person in charge (Gordon Brown) physically leaves the building and leaves a puppet in charge.

I'd much rather work for a benign puppet idiot than a bullying idiot any day of the week.

If I'd worked their during Gordon's reign of terror I think I'd have gone completely mad; they must really welcome the respite from the mad infant.

Talking of those who cannot handle their jobs... consider Dawn Primorola. Her performance in yesterday's debate on the Embryology Bill was abysmal.

In answering questions, she resorted to that old ploy of restating over and over again the words of the Bill. And this was in the face of a collection of MPs, of all viewpoints, who clearly understood what the important issues were.

What weasely civil servants she must have in her department if that was the best advice they could proffer.

Thanks to elby the beserk for highlighting the important test case prosecution of the teenager insulting the mad cult Scientology, and its crackpot followers.
This serves to remind us of the comparative and superlative of the word cunts; cunts, utter cunts, British police.

You obviously didn't see the subsequent prosecutions and imprisonments then.... See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6903445.stm for more.

The police sensibly took evidence at the demo, rather than wading in a causing a rumpus.

Yes, some prosecutions after massive public outcry, the only thing they did was try to stop a photographer. Disgraceful pandering to the PC cult.

Anon, 10am - clue's in the title: 'political secretary to the prime minister'- she's not a treasury employee, she works for the prime minister...as his political secretary.

however terrible that position is (under mcbroon?!!) digs like that are what make us look like idiots - just read G's posts carefully and you woulda known that.

Concentrate man, and if you can't think of something useful to say, then keep your mouth shut.

It could well be that the stress levels dropped as Shriti "the shriek" Vadera (a woman renowned for her ill treatment of all those around her) left HMT with Gordon.....wouldn't surprise me if stress levels at DfID and now BERR have risen meteorically with her being given Ministerial roles in those departments since June 07.
