The Calculus of Political Pain and Pleasure
This PoliticsHome derived chart pretty much sums up the political pain / pleasure calculus for the parties tonight. Given only some 4,000 seats are up for grabs, rather than the 10,000 seats last time, it would be be extraordinary to see a 200 seat move. If the LibDems keep their losses low they will have done well. If Labour loses seats to below the level of Blair's Warmongering low that literally decimated Labour last time (and paved the way for Brown to "save the party") the recriminations will flow like Tory champagne...Via : New Statesman

"literally decimated" ie reduced by one tenth!
I think Labour are all too aware of the political pain they could suffer; it looks like their "researchers" are going into overdrive on the bbc blogs by complaining about every single blog entry that criticises their beloved leader, and there's already a plethora of voting fraud tactics being reported in london.
I don't get to vote this time (no election where I am), so all those out there who can vote but haven't yet; please please do vote because as per some other postings, we're counting on you guys to help us out here.
Richard Kay in today's Mail tells us that Peter Hain's wife's headhunting business has gone bust.
It seems the company "was hit by malicious rumours" linking it to Peter's resignation. The fact that the Orange Man's disgrace drew attention to the company getting a lot of government contracts couldn't have helped.
"Malicious rumours? I wonder who could have spread them.
I don't think the table will apply to the Greenery girl with the big paps. I'll certainly be looking to console her at the count.
Haven't you got enough on your hands with the five kids etc...
Just sitting at home wondering if its worthwhile bothering to go out and vote. It looks like a complete waste of shoe leather. Ken is corrupt, Boris is rich public school tosser, and Paddick is a puff. Is like having a choice between syphilis, gonorrhoea or herpes.
Please Gordon it's about time you go. We can't afford your ego.
Paddick is a puff? Maybe he is, as well as a poof.
Just been to vote (not london so sorry Boris) asked about the turnout and the guy said 107 out of 500 with 30 postal votes registered.
What is wrong with these fuckwitts? they moan and moan but do nothing.
Headline in today's London Evening Standard: "PM's plea to voters: Don't punish us for tough times".
Voter's response - go and fuck yourself you snotgobbling cunt.
Does "decimate" mean 'reduce by a tenth' or 'reduce to a tenth"? Shurely we shoulld be told. Might come in useful later, when we get the London results (he! he!)
Mitch@6:03pm
If these "fuckwits" are like me they will vote later, on the way to the pub, to take the nasty taste out of their mouths.
I agree, though, about moaning and not voting. If you don't vote you've no right to complain.
no exit polls yet guido , all being played down on media , still wont get true picture until 3pm on fri , so wont get the champagne out until then
c4 news didnt mention a single thing about the elections tonight.
media lockdown perhaps so as to not influence the elections?
I was going to vote but then i couldn't be arsed. Anyway, imagine a world with Ken and snotgobblin gone. Who the fuck are we going to slag off on Guido then. My life would be shit!
@Anonymous 7:34 Decimation was the Roman punishment for legions who had disgraced themselves in battle. Every 10th man was dispatched, though in relation to nuliebour I prefer the leaving 10% standing to tell the tale version
Bring on the results

Representation of the State^D^D^D^D^D People act makes commenting on elections in progress tricky for old media.

BBC's Have Your Say:
Did you vote in the local election in England & Wales?
Polling stations are now closed in the local elections for England and Wales. Who did you vote for?
Among current top favourites:
Wild horses wouldn't keep me away...I would still love to see Labour get the good kicking they deserve!!!!
Yep. Like millions of others, I suspect, I voted Conservative to give Gordon a kicking!
And...
First tme I recall seeing electors practically skipping into the polling station for a local election.
The BBC is reporting that Labour have lost 214 councilors, with 118 of 159 councils officially declared.
Time for the accursed one eyed son of the manse to retire to a darkened room with a glass of whisky and a Webley revolver with one bullet and do the honourable thing...
Oh, I forget; the only honourable thing about him is his title "The Right Honourable"
Is it true there is evidence of widespread ballot box tampering, is it also true they were using F*****G CARDBOARD BALLOT BOXES !!!!!!
Tell me none of this is true.
Get out and vote now and tell us what's going on.

Labour are currently on -297 with 15 councils to declare. Does that count as a meltdown?
Has anybody delivered a bottle of whisky and a revolver to the bunker yet?
At the end Labour was on minus 331. That's pretty bad.
Sky News has it as -434.
I think the BBC are trying to detract from the true horror.
Apparently:
"The significant difference comes from the way in which the new Cheshire and Durham unitary authorities have been counted. The BBC has chosen to represent all of the seats won here as gains, whereas Sky have (correctly) calculated the gains and losses based on the old council seats."
