Zimbabwe and Britain : Parallels (I)
A co-conspirator draws an interesting parallel.
From The History of Zimbabwe based on Nyerere's recollections:
During tension between the two political leaders Julius Nyerere summoned Nkomo then Mugabe to talks to try and reconcile them. When Mugabe went in and was offered a seat, Mugabe refused and went up to Nyerere's face and told him "If you think I'm going to sit right where that fat bastard just sat, you'll have to think again". As a result of this strained relationship with the two, fighting between ZANLA and ZIPRA soldiers only increased and widened the gap between the two men.

I know that we are supposed to care about Zimbabwe but I do not.
dont forget mugabe has a polit bureau as well as if a future glimpse of the uk needed any further iceing.
I was listening to Jethro Tulls Locomotive Breath and thought the lyrics very apt for Gordon Browns situation...The songs tells of a runaway train heading for disaster.
"In the shuffling madness
Of the locomotive breath,
Runs the all-time loser,
Headlong to his death"
with reference to Charlie Wheelan with the line,
" Old Charlie stole the handle"
There's even a reference to "Balls", if only it mentioned 'cunt' you could have assumed it meant Tom Watson.
"He picks up Gideon's Bible --
Open at page one --
Oh God, he stole the handle and
The train it won't stop going --
No way to slow down."

Ah, yes - I well recall that period in Zimbabwe's history. I was working in the Immigration Dept at the time, so took a special interest in it all. My favourite name from the batch of four (the two pictured, plus the two moderates) was the wonderful-to-say Ndabaningi Sithole :-)
Thinking of parallels, there are of course others that could be mentioned, including voting fraud (largely from the huge increase in postal voting, which almost seems to have been allowed specifically for that purpose).
Mugabe's mansion, though, looks to be grander than anything British political leaders have provided to them at public expense (I have photos).
Think of all the monthly payers who got their first slimline pay packet this week before you vote.
what happens if Boris wins and then stuffs the job up?
will the Tories then be screwed?
OT - There is a wonderfully pompous piece in this morning's Indy by Steve Richards - the unthinking woman's Gary Elsby from Stoke.
Apparently, the London electorate lack Steve's peception - we cannot see the "connections".
It is clear that if we choose Boris, Steve will have to have us replaced.
WE HAVE BEEN WARNED!
I see we're in for a post-election 'relaunch' according to the Times

Let's not forget President Canaan Banana of Zimbabwe who, sadly, was imprisoned for sodomy.

Ah! So that's why I keep seeing a blue screen of death.
Somehow I don’t think it’s going to stop my system taking exception at his access violation.
I'd always thought it was a bit rich for Gordon Brown to lecture Mugabe on democracy, and I'm not surprised Mugabe is just pointing at him and laughing at what a useless twat he is.
Gordon Brown:
a) was never elected leader and just bullied/threatened the existing government to crown him as leader instead.
b) has actively pushed for slavery (children and immigrants that is; children via "on the job training" which is unpaid work in shops/factories, and immigrants to secure a visa doing "compulsory voluntary" work)
c) has been in charge at a time when international observers see the UK voting system as being at 3rd-world/banana-republic standards when it comes to fraud
d) is in charge of a party who's constantly being investigated for voting fraud.
I really don't think GB has the kind of moral authority that he needs to make the point to Mugabe. I despise Mugabe, but GB has no authority to lecture Mugabe given his own track record.
Gordon Brown and Mugabe do have a huge amount in common.
The precautionary principle (lock everyone up even if there's no evidence/charge, just because you don't like their politics) is just another preference that they share.

John Prescott is mooted to be the new face of Marks and Spencer's trifles and buckets so not all bad
Nu Lieber and its supporters have dropped to the despairing depths of incredulity. The mirror images of Nu Lieber and Zipra and Zanla are obvious for one aspect. People can see the corruption but the troughs are just filled with pigs filling their faces. Can anyone defend Nu Liebers record of theft from the pensioners and the poorest 10%.
Compare them to Mugabe? Read http://fylde-bootnecks.blogspot.com/2008/04/british-government-cannot-say-they-did.html
Why do you tolerate Brown?
Why are there no riots?
Why do you just sit doing nothing?
Is that the English way? Just talk a good game and do nothing until your leaders tell you?

Ahh the Rev Sithole, reminds me of the old Rex Tarr joke: What's black and floats down the Zambezi?
Rev. Rubberdinghy Sithole.
Re: Canaan Banana. Apparently whenever Pres Banana met with foreign dignitaries, the press corps were requested tnot to refer to the meeting as "fruitful".
