U.S. Visit Front Page News

Guido has checked the front pages of the New York Times, Washington Post, New York Post, the CNN and Drudge websites. The visit of his Holiness the Pope is everywhere. The visit of his twattyness the PM is nowhere to be seen. Not on front pages, not on inside pages. Nowhere.

Gordon has hired a high-powered PR team and they don't even think to avoid a scheduling clash with Pope Benedict - which was always going to be the big box office draw. Gordon was giving delusional interviews yesterday lauding his important role as "a bridge to Europe". Laughable.

UPDATE :
According to Nick Robinson this morning, British Embassy officials admit they didn't know the Pope was coming to Washington at the same time. The British Embassy n Washington is the biggest and most expensive outpost of the FCO. Well done chaps...

His PR team are crap - but they have very poor raw material to work with...

Doesn't help with these sort of statements flying around in the few reports that have made the US press.

"Bush is largely irrelevant"

Love him or hate him, one knows very well that Blair would never had made such a mistake.

Yes, I've had to listen to some absolute garbage on the BBC, and read it in sleazy newspapers, that the Snotgobbler is in some way 'warning' US bankers about something or other.

This is a pathetic dog-whistle strategy by the mucus-muncher to in some way blame 'American bankers' for the global financial crisis and for the 'bust' in Britain. According to City AM "London house prices have fallen 15%, according to Mark Andreson of Hamptons.

All who have eyes can see perfectly well that the bogey-lover, which happy to take personal credit for global financial trends when they worked in his favour, is trying naked anti-Americanism so he can wriggle out of the blame when they cause problems for the electorate.

Now: here's a message for all of you Labour Party sympathisers working for that Frankie Howerd figure at No 10 (alright I agree, Gordon isn't as funny): STOP IT. Tell your man he is a pathetic wingeing loser, we know his game, and we want him to COME OUT AND F*CK OFF.

Maladroit, the word comes to mind when (however briefly) thinking of this phenomenon.
Here we have a creature of infinite incompetence, there is no limit to the ineptness of this thing, it is utterly incapable of doing anything right, including recognising the shame and embarrassment it daily brings upon us, that we are "led" by such a cretin. A joke, an utter baffoon.

His visit has been reported here, looks like Gordon has offended the US President.

Translation: "Up yours, George!" Right on his first trip to the United States, when Mr. Brown is expecting to be welcomed by the very man he just ripped. It's typical of Gordon Brown's clumsy political style. He is in big political trouble back home, so he rips the United States a new one. Expect Bush to respond by paying a lot of attention to the Pope.

Gordon Brown is the Jimmy Carter of Great Britain. He makes constant pratfalls, but is possessed by a kind of blind self-righteousness -- just like Jimmy Carter -- and never seems to notice his own snafus. As a result, his domestic popularity has been dropping like a stone.

Anonymous said...

We should consider ourselves lucky that they haven't noticed he is there.

Downing Street have put up a picture of Brown meeting George Bush in their Prime minister's visit to the US, April 2008(set)

Nothing wrong with that except the minor detail of that meeting took place in 2007. Gordon's PR team must be getting desperate.

I don't know whether it's taking a semi-professional interest in religious affairs that means I've been aware of the Papal visit to the US for FUCKING AGES, but you'd think that, if there had been perhaps one or two American ex-pats, or Catholics, or even people with a vague clue involved in the planning of this trip, they might have known about it too.

Mind you, one of the interesting things about this trip is the clash of Conservative-chic, uncompromising, "good priests are more important than many priests" Benedict XVI with the US Catholic hierarchy. In New York, they're quite switched-on, and are organising decent, dignified music and worship; in Washington, they're stuck in a mid-80s timewarp, where everything's embarrassing, it's cool to be an ignoramus, and crap rules the day.

It comes down to one simple thing: if you act like you believe the things you say you do, and like you care about them, there's more of a chance that you actually do; if you behave as though you don't care, you probably don't.

I wonder whether any similar contests we might have over here, perhaps of a political nature, will have this feel to them as well.

The White House decreed the date of Brown's visit. If he had said No to that date then he would have had a very long wait for the next opportunity.

A very interesting pece in today's Times by Daniel Finkelstein, headed "Are our leaders drugged to the eyeballs?".

Finkelstein is referring to a new book: 'In sickness and in power' by Dr. David Owen.

He relates a number tales of unwell and loony state leaders that were kept going by pharmaceutical cocktails, with the constant theme that this caused them to make very poor judgements (Eden - Suez, Kennedy - Bay of Pigs, etc.).

No mention of the snot-gobbler, but I think we get the picture. I really would love to hear Dr. Owen's honest diagnosis.

If the client is a complete bow-wow, the last thing you want is the cameras on them in case they start dribbling or throwing the phones at the waitresses. Solution: send them to a place where all the cameras are pointing at someone else. Then you can truthfully shrug and say: 'The PM attended as he was honour-bound to do, but people had other things on their minds. This PM is not a camera-hogging prima donna Mick Jagger wannabe, unlike some previous PMs we could mention.' Sniff.

If Gordon took the date he could get and landed on the square containing a papal visit, that is the first stroke of luck he has had in a long time.

Expect Gordon to be a tiny figure at the corner of innumerable world-event photos from now on, like Dr Who. Fifty years from now, if anyone can be bothered, it will seem as if anytime there was a meeting of world figures, a bouquet of international totty, a sporting event or a rock concert, there he was, that lumpy head just on the edge of the frame. The conspiracy theorists will go wild and suggest he was the remaining Time Lord, raging round the universe and looking for Captain Jack.

Perhaps Bush has remembered the surly Chancellor who rarely spoke out in support of the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and the Chancellor who has been slow to provide money for additonal UK military equipment. And has GWB forgiven McBroon for undermining and stitching up Blair?

On the other hand, perhaps the FCO have decided that it is payback time for Broon. He seems to have upset the diplomats, the military and naval chiefs. Payback time for the control freak?

As for Il Pape, even The Republican Party gets some Catholic vote to vote for it.

So Team Brown look as if they cannot organise a piss up in a very large brewery, or Bush has stitched up McBroon big time.
