Pound Plunging Means Europhiles Rejoice

This chart makes europhiles moist with excitement...A lot of eurosceptics have a nightmare scenario in which the plunging pound reaches parity with euro. At this point, they believe, swapping pounds for euros would be easier for the political class to sell to fundamentally eurosceptical British voters. It is no big deal the europhiles will claim, "prices will remain unchanged".

The pound has now plunged to an all-time low against the euro, it bought €1.50 last year and now buys €1.25. At this rate of decline sterling could easily hit parity before the next general election. So a by-product of UK inflation getting out of control, growth faltering and house prices slumping could be joining the European Monetary Union and anchoring our economy to the Bundesbank. You have been warned...

Talking of warnings, only on Saturday Gordon was pontificating that the IMF needed to become "an early warning system", well yesterday the IMF warned UK house prices could fall 10% this year. Got that Gordon?

there are only two years left to an election that will see labour wiped out as a political entity. Cameron will then distance us from the cancer that is the EU.

the pound WILL touch parity with the Euro but that is solely down to the incompetent economic policy of gormless, gurning Gordon. possibly the most useless sack of shit ever to hold office in the uk

Correction: IMF says UK house prices will fall 10% in 2008. They forecast a 30% fall in prices over the coming years.

So much for "no more boom and bust".

House prices aren't crashing in France and Germany. Public finances are fine in Holland and Ireland.

It's only Gordon Brown and George Bush who are being rumbled as reckless.

The pound is not the problem. Gordon is.

I get paid in euros, so I am pretty happy on a personal level. And I have to admit that the euro is well managed, since Trichet normally tells the politicians to fuck off when they tell him to lower rates. But the pound's level reflects international opinion on the management of the British economy, and getting hitched to the euro would be as stupid as attaching ourselves to the ERM was in 1990-92.

The only solution is to throw the bums out. But we're lumbered with him for two more years.

Time to switch off the lights.

The real news behind all this was a soaring pound and out of control House price inflation caused by Brown's incompetent handling of the economy. What we see now are market forces restoring the status quo.

Credit crunch and all round losses have the markets twitchy, responding to anything and sterling is fundamentally weak against Euro.

Parity is a dream that Europhiles have long since dismissed as their instant panacea to remove the last vestiges of resistance in the UK.

They know that our distrust of Europe goes so deep that they would face concerted civil unrest -who knows, maybe even an indigenous version of the IRA, if they ever try to steal any more from us & give the country away to the anti democratic international socialists that infest the European Union.

I am ready to go into "the shadows" for Her Majesty & England if this "Euro-creep" continues.

I guess I have just broken the Anti Terror Laws - fuck 'em, come & get me.

I remind everyone of the previous "big idea" political offerings from Europe:

National Socialism

Fascism

Communism

Socialism

The EU is more dangerous to these British Isles than all 4 of them put together & we must resist at all costs, by any means necessary.

Over my cold, dead, rotting corpse will Britain join the Euro and surrender our ability to govern our own monetary policy to the EU.

It's bad enough having 80% of our laws coming from the despicable, corrupt, undemocratic, soviet-esq plutocracy that is the EU, but that would be the final curtain for Britain in joining the Euro.

I think you're all mistaken. He speaks the truth doesn't he? God! I've heard this drivel so many times, it seems I've memorised it.

I can also remember when one's Balance of Payments was significant and triggered off news headlines so that it is said the purchase of one Jumbo Jet by BA cost Labour the 970 election. I still think the Balance of Payments is important- the fact the the news media now supresses it makes me think it is even more so

Harold Wilson, 1967: "The pound in your pocket is still worth one pound".

Gordon Brown 2008: "We have a fundamentally strong economy to weather the economic storm" (as the pound devalues as if by magic against other currencies without ever calling it a devaluation).

Seems the left never learn from their mistakes. Except these days, as an earlier poster mentioned, the plebs have enough to go to Spain, and can see just how much they are being shafted.

Someday the mainstream press will actually start calling this a deliberate devaluation without Gordon actually admitting as such.

To repeat something I posted a while ago - yeah things are a bit shit but where aren't they? America, which is properly fucked and is in recession already? The Eurozone which has much higher unemployment (of people who want to work unlike the UK where most of the unemployed don't particularly fancy a job) and no control of monetary policy? Australia where they are being fried of the face of the earth and the population is more unhappy than 10 years ago? Ireland which is fucked in so many ways and you can barely get around the infstructure is so bad?

I mean where the hell is this utopia you're all comparing the UK with? Yeah the Government is a bit rubbish but managing things differently hasn't helped anyone else avoid the same economic symptons - that might suggest the route problem in the current situation is systemic - the banking system might just have something to do with it, eh? And can the economically illerate and historically ignorant amongst you stop pretending this is the worst thing to happen in the history of the world. Grow up.

More details from petition creator:

In light of the PM's statement of April 2008 that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) needed complete re-structuring so it could act as an "early warning system" for the international economy, we should like the PM to explain what action was taken by himself and HMG upon receiving previous warnings from the IMF.

For example..

Dec 2003 IMF gives Brown borrowing warning

Sep 2005 IMF report Warning over £1 trillion mountain of debt

Dec 2005 IMF report IMF fires new warning over Britain's finances

Sep 2006 IMF report IMF warns over UK property crash

The "Long March" (a phrase borrowed from Chairman Mao) through English institutions has undoubtedly severely damaged... this country"

"They have managed this by turning a well-meant attempt to stop German ambitions to rule Europe (twice foiled at terrible loss of our nation's best manpower and all its wealth) by permitting traitorous Parliaments to insert our nation, as a minor voting cog, into a corrupt neo-Soviet-style centralised entity of 27 different nations called the European Union."
