Loudmouth commie turned warmongering Blair fan, David Aaronovitch, has come a long way on his political journey. He will also travel a long way for lunch it seems. Last month he was speaking at a dinner in Walthamstow, troughing at a fundraiser with Neal Lawson of Compass, the left-wing pressure group that pushed so hard for Brown to replace Blair.This Wednesday he will be troughing at the Ritz-Carlton in the Cayman Islands, where he will no doubt be ranting to bankers, fund managers and other running dogs of capitalism as a guest of the Cayman Islands Financial Services Association. Clearly he is taking the fight for socialism to the enemy...

That hotel looks OK, don't it? Does anyone know if it's family friendly or not? I'm doing a ton of A Level marking this summer and I'd like to treat the wife and kids out of it. We went to Blackpool at Easter, stayed in a lovely little place on the South Prom called the 'Carousel'. Me and Mrs Street got pissed in the bar everynight and the kids were still there when we got back to the room. That's the kind of hotel security I'm looking for as well, don't want to find meself plastered all over the front page of the 'Mirror'.

@George - “Family Friendly” is the last phrase that comes to mind concerning Cayman Ritz-Carlton! It’s not bank balance friendly either. The Cayman Islands are wonderful for a holiday so long as you want to do absolutely nothing apart form dive.

I can't add anything more to the above character assessments other than my wholehearted endorsement of the four-letter expletive used most frequently.
I went to an event in Alnwick, Northumberland (Barter Books - lovely place)in 2004, being stationed at a neaarby RAF base. I quizzed Aaronovitch on the WMD issue and the difference between "tactical" and "battlefield" chemical weapons in the dodgy dossiers. He pooh-pooed this distinction, showing that his level of knowledge of military and intelligence matters was at the same gutter level as most of his paid-for opinions.
I can't wait to see his long-overdue career suicide once the wheels fall completely off this government...Big Brother, reality TV and slowly into oblivion....

He had it easy as Chancellor. Brown never had to do anything as politically tough as, for example, Howe's 1981 budget. All Brown had to do was pick money out of a growing economy - the groundwork having been laid by Margaret Thatcher - and apply the money to wasteful public spending all the while claiming the good while putting off the bad. History will record him as one of the most inept prime ministers in the past hundred years.
Well, his chickens have come home to roost, and the British public are slowly but surely recognising Gordon Brown as an incompetent who spent 10 years gagging to become prime minister only to balls it up within a few weeks of getting there, and history will record him as one of the most inept prime ministers in the past hundred years. Is this Aaronovich chap one of those "intellectuals" who can satisfy himself that black is white and that he was always right even when he was wrong? Someone who, through the medium of student politics, has avoided having to do a proper job. Someone who can be referred to as a "gob on legs" can comment on the way society functions without having the first hand experience of the problems faced by the people his "socialism" set out to solve. His dilemma is that what he wants to achieve would involve egalitarianism of a type that would not permit his level of remuneration. Or, he might believe that as an intellectual, some are more equal than others. Perhaps he isn't aware that you can be a thinker AND work in a tractor factory.
