The entire county? Fame at last. Alas, the classification isn't original - it is the one on the Stoke City Council website. It didn't mention sex offences, but then it also didn't mention the Dec 2007 conviction of Cllr Paul Shotton for causing unnecessary suffering to his dog. Cllr Shotton is appealing the conviction. He immediately resigned the Labour whip and from his post as deputy of the Labour group, but resisted calls for him to resign his seat.
Note: the RSPCA has mounted some questionable prosecutions recently and now has several critics. The Shotton case had costs of £3,000 awarded agains Shotton, but that's a gamble which donors may not be aware of.
As you speak for the Labour party in Stoke, Gary, perhaps you can give us a whisper on how the appeal is going?
WOAR - "Shotton resisted calls to resign his seat" - would there be some emoluments attached to this seat, such as perhaps this learned councillor would not be able to match were he to offer his "skills" on the open market?

Possibly, possibly, but Labour would be reluctant to lose even one councillor they can count on. It holds only 24 seats but good discipline usually means successful minority control. The mayoral system in Stoke delivers unusual power to that office (it is slightly different to the cabinet system elsewhere), so despite what Gary says, the city can be regarded as Labour controlled. However, the loss of even a single seat makes life much more difficult, so it suits the Labour group to have Shotton agreeing to vote with them but not to be under their whip. Had Shotton been a Conservative, they would have been er, hounding him out.
What Gary has not reported on is why a city which was solid Labour and spends 10 years under a Labour government, then votes for all sorts, including an unusually strong and organized BNP group.
Stoke is in many ways a model of the rest of England; if Labour are not holding there, then the next round of local elections is going to be a very bad news indeed, despite the excellent tractor output, the low inflation and the superb and instant healthcare which is available.
