+++ Spink Speaks +++
Bob Spink has just emailed this to Guido:
“The Party has failed to deal with local breaches of its rules and electoral irregularities, and with criminal activities over a long period and there are now corruption and other investigations, surrounding certain senior members of my local Association. It is with great sadness that I therefore felt compelled to resign the Party whip. I hope my action in resigning will bring the necessary changes and therefore be in both the public and the Party’s best interests.”
His email has a final paragraph:
Tories lose another MP at Westminster
MP Dr Bob Spink has resigned the Conservative Party whip because he is disappointed with the Party’s failure to address crime and corruption within the Party.
Dr Spink remains a committed and principled Conservative.
UPDATE I : Nadine Dorries reckons that Spink will, "given his strong anti-Euro views and Essex seat, join UKIP."
UPDATE II : Bob Spink emails again with a press release setting out his side of the spin:
UPDATE II : Bob Spink emails again with a press release setting out his side of the spin:
“For the Conservative Party to now imply they withdrew the whip from me is brass-necked dishonesty. This sort of low-political deceit is why the public hold politicians in such deep contempt.
The Chief Whip said my resignation would disrupt the Party Spring Conference this weekend and asked me to reconsider, or at least to delay announcement. I refused.
He also asked me to meet with him, the Party Chairman, Chairman of the 22 Committee, and Dominic Grieve MP a Tory solicitor, and I did so this morning when they sought to get me to change my mind. I refused and at 12 noon today I informed Sir Michael Spicer, the Chairman of the 22 Cttee, that I was irrevocably set on resignation. I announced my resignation on the floor of the House this afternoon.
I remain a committed and principled Conservative and will continue to sit on the Tory benches.”
Extracts of an Email sent by Bob Spink on 11th March 15.47 to the Chief Whip Patrick Mcloughlin
Dear Patrick, It is not in the public interest for me to remain within a party that supports improper and criminal actions against an MP or democracy. I therefore intend to resign the whip….
If you wish, we can discuss how to handle my resignation, including publicity and the withdrawal of facilities.
Yours ever
Bob 11/3/08
Extracts from letter dated 12th March from the Chief Whip to Dr Bob Spink MP:
Further to your letter of resignation received by email yesterday afternoon, and our discussion today, I am writing to confirm the removal of the Whip with immediate effect.
‘The Chairman has counselled you strongly to await the Executive Council next week….’ 12/3/08Guido suspects that Spink is going in a huff because he faced deselection by his own constitutency association who were not happy about him employing his lover / wife / lover's daughter etcetera. This promises to be an enjoyable bun fight...

Translated into English, does that mean "I was up for de-/re-selection and I bottled out of facing down the committee"?
Employong your ex wife and daughter instead of paying maintenance...
Employing your ex-partner's daughter to keep her quite...
Your hard worked assistant would love to know where all these employees are???
Whiff of SLEAZE hangs over you Bob...
PS How is the hottub?
Ed Balls now claims that he didn't shout "SO WHAT" in response to Cameron saying that Britain's tax burden is the highest ever.
Balls claims that what he actually said was "OH SNOT" and he wasn't referring to Cameron but to something that Gordon Brown was just about to pop into his mouth.
Despite his best efforts the Sun's headline tomorrow will still be "SO WHAT" over a photo of a fat, sweaty, and smirking Balls.
So he's "Doctor" Spink, is he?
Golly, how impressive.
What sort of 'Doctor' is he?
I think we should be told.
Oh that Bob Spink...
These attacks on a brave and honourable man are very unfair. I think Spink has shown a lot of spunk.
"Committed"? He should be!
If he is alleging that crimes have been committed (without specifying what), I assume he has reported these to the police? What does the local constabulary have to say about the matter?
He was always weird... I do feel for his staff though, who are now in a very difficult position.
Bob Spink has a PhD in Economics and Management (according to Wikipedia.)
In other words - he's not a Doctor of Medicine, which is what most of us in the UK think the title "Dr" means.
Unlike Germany, where it seems everyone has the title "Dr", not many people with PhDs use the title "Dr" in this country, though of those who do, I've noticed that a lot of them seem to be Members of Parliament.
Like Dr John Reid.
'Nuff said?
Me and the missus are doing very nicely out of this!
Spink. "Is there some bad news in the budget which needs burying Darling?"
"Yes Bob, resign the whip now..."
Could this be another of Gorgon Broon’s cunning stunts?
oh dear i see the "so what" line has now got a life of its own , any trolls want to put to cyberspace !!
were waiting
So what we seem to have here is an MP that has been told to clean up his act. But is so mighty pissed at being told anything of the sort, while he believes he knows of other things that are 'criminal' still going on inside his own party, he has had a red faced foot stamping tantrum.
I am sure he is very likely correct, but as the Tory's are not in power, so I have little concept of what he could be talking about. If he has any type of evidence, then why have the cops not already been informed?
Surly covering up for known criminal activity is illegal in itself. If not highly dangerous to your own life and limb to admit to knowing such things.
Principled and very brave, but on the other hand, not principled or brave at all.
Cameron should just carry on weeding them all out one by one regardless. It will make Labour start crying soon. When the spotlight is turned, the entire LPP will be on the next flight to Argentina.
This MP in particular crying foul will count for little unless he is prepared to go to court. Which it seems is the last place he wants to be.
Where is the plod when you need them?
Apart that is, from filling in pointless forms, shining boots, and booking their next 6 month sicky-note holiday in the Canaries.

Bob Spink was never a real Conservative anyway! Look at the EDMs he signs (virtually all of them (even when they contradict each other!), much like a Lib Dem).
I am also aware that he has regularly annoyed the front bench for being, basically, an idiot.
He also holds many views incompatible with the modern world.
I always thought he should be booted out the party as he is a troublesome waste of space so this is good news.
The title Dr may be used by anyone with a doctorate, which could be an ordinary doctorate (i.e a PhD or DPhil) or a "higher" doctorate (MD, DMus, DCL, DTh). By courtesy the title is also extended to people with a Bachelor of Medicine degree, which is all most medical doctors have. So in this one detail Spink is right.
just to crown off the day , Evanomics has just given his wonderful insight "bit bad now will get better next year"
its a bit like saying "ive shat my pants , but its not as bad you might think"
osbournes got stuck into the detail , yvette cooper was on some sort of pharmaceutical that prevented her from ansering any question on if people will be worse off .
Evanomics , i just cant stop laughing
Oxbridge Prat:
To practise as a Doctor of Medicine, you need to have two degrees - Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Surgery, also known as MB ChB.
I see the Tories are out in force dishing the dirt. How appropriate - How Nu-Lab. Let's hope he does join UKIP and turns the tables.

You are wrong. MB, ChB, etc. are not doctorates. Re-read Oxford Prat's comment. He is correct.
The 'Doctor' for people with MB and ChB is an honorific title.
Incidentally, I know about a 100 scientists and engineers with PhDs and every one of them uses the 'Doctor' title.
Her was always one of those UKIP gadflies anyway. Good riddance, one extreme right-wing nutter down, how many to go?
A victory for the modernisers.
Anonymous 7.54: In Oxford that would be BM and BCh, but note the "B" in all cases; these are all bachelor's degrees, and the title of Doctor is purely a matter of courtesy.
Anonymous 8.51 pm:
Re-read my earlier comment. Where do I say that these two bachelors degrees are doctrates? The two bachelors degrees are a requirement before you can practise as a Doctor of Medicine.
So you know about 100 scientists and engineers with PhDs who call themselves "Doctor"?
If this claim-to-vicarious-fame is meant to impress, I'm sorry but you've failed. You mix in some pretty boring circles, don't you?
Do you know what Doctors of Medicine call scientists and engineers who use the title "Dr"?
Dare you even guess?
Oxbridge Prat:
See above re: bachelors degrees.
Much as I like Oxford as a city, the University and its graduates don't have a particularly great reputation in medical circles.
Sorry, but that's the truth.
Anon 7.54 and 8.51 pm
"Where do I say that these two bachelors degrees are doctrates? "
Here:
"Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Surgery, also known as MB ChB"
Also
"If this claim-to-vicarious-fame .."
Nothing vicarious about it. I have a PhD and they are my colleagues and associates.
Returning to the matter in hand -
Et in Castle Point ego!
"Incidentally, I know about a 100 scientists and engineers with PhDs and every one of them uses the 'Doctor' title."
Good to see the postings still coming in from Nigeria. You are very widely read Mr F.

It looks like you've picked up another commenter's error re: the difference between doctrates and multiple bachelors degrees.
But in the process you have rather confirmed what other mere mortals have always thought about professional students.
Nevertheless, I'm impressed by your ability to type one-handed.
Honest.
Guido
I stood against Bob as Labour candidate in Castle Point in 2005 and with my LD counterpart exposed his "send them back" advert nationally.
I deplore his views on Europe and immigration but would defend his personal integrity.
He was threatened with deselection not because of his views on national issues but because he offended powerful local business interests in the building trade by opposing planning applications that were not in the interests of his constituents.
He has made allegations of political corruption in Castle Point that chime with what local residents told me on the doorstep and need proper investigation by both the public authorities and the Tory Party.
Luke Akehurst
This Bob Spink fellow...
Does he have an excess of nostril hair? If he does, plaiting's the thing.
Despite being assailed by a combination of dirty CCHQ smears, no-one can deny I hit the the floor farting.
YOU ARE THE WEAKEST SPINK, GOODBYE
Goodbye, Bob. Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.

Cameron could be making a serious tactical error here, he's soon going to need some doctors to operate on a critical UK economy - although having said that, it will almost certainly be a worm-ridden corpse by the time Midshipman Brown finally cops a count for homicide and is prudently incarcerated for the rest of his unnatural exigence, or for as long as it takes to clear the UK's catastophic debts (I reckon about 10 life-sentences will probably suffice).
It's 'doctorates' by the way.
Anyway here's another angle left by Luke Akehurst in the comments over at Ian Dale:

This will play and play.....
Can I say that I personally have no idea what the fuck vicarious means and judging by you lots obvious showing off. I am rather proud of the fact that I don't.
What difference does it make what amount of silly letters you have after your name, when it comes to running ANYTHING, never mind a country. Virtually every single member of parliament has plenty enough letters after and before their names, and look at the very bloody God damned mess this current lot have made.
My 100 year old grandmother would have done a better job, and thats no joke. For no other reason that she could not have possibly done a worse one. In fact no government at all would have been an massive improvement beyond my wildest dreams.
Having a university degree should almost be a disqualification rather then a qualification for high office. Certainly if the last 11 years is anything to go by.
I am not saying this just to make a silly point, because it is a real and consistent observation of mine going back over 40 years.
Many of the thickest, most incompetent, dishonest, useless, and lazy people I have ever met, are 1st or 2nd grade university graduates.
They are very often either, so up their own ego tripping specialist back-side, they don't listen to anything, but the sound of their own voice. So never learn a thing of any real value.
Or so seriously mentally deficient, to the point of not even being able to clean their own knickers properly or tie their own shoe-laces.
I cant imagine that politicians generally could possibly imagine quite how useless they seem to people that actually build and run successful companies, even a window cleaners. I would not let any of them with the exception of Cameron, anywhere near mine, even if they worked for free. Most of them would bankrupt me within a month.

"This promises to be an enjoyable bun fight..."
Guido, you are a bastard aren't you? :)
David Tennant calls himself the Dr and he does not have any degrees - the man is a disgrace. I believe several others, including Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker pulled the same trick. Shame on them, they must be expelled from the party.
Bob Spink is cool, a real tory, not a soaking wet liberal left piece of marxist communist filth that runs the party today.
more power to Bob Spink, you are a hero and speak for the people of this country.
God bless you sir.

A victory for the modernisers.

by modernisers you are refering to the liberal fascists then yes you could class it as a victory,
certainly not for the country the economy or our youth however.
as for right wing nutter i presume you are refering to the issue of his stating facts rather than spreading PC lies?
aparently that now makes you a nutter!
welcome to 1984
cunt.
who gives a fuck about what qualifies you as a doctor - fucking anal bed wetters and stay the fuck off guido, you are about as interesting as a gravy stain.
Strange thing is, if he joins UKIP or the BNP his seat will be safe as houses. he would decimate both the Labour and the Tory vote in the area.
There is no UKIP branch in Castle Point - they defected en masse and joined the English Democrats.
Bob has put his attack in first as he doesn't want close scrutiny of his own activities - look at his expenses and who he employs!
If he has evidence of illegal activities - stop your whingeing and go to the Police.
In Essex there is a name for what he is doing:-
'Shit and stamp in it'
