Polls Tell Labour Blair Was Better

It must be a bit galling for the Brownies to discover that Cameron not only as expected wins over "toffs" (in the vernacular of Kevin Maguire's fantasy Beano world) - the breakdown is now showing Cameron ahead in the lower D & E income groups in England. Even in Maguire's North East home region (not in his adopted millionaire's colony of Richmond) the Tories are more popular than Brown. That is Labour's heartland, if they can't win there, they can't win anywhere.
The SNP are hammering the corrupt Scottish Labour Party, now if only the LibDems could pull some more votes from Labour, the anti-Brown vote will reach 2 to1 in England. Guido always said the Labour Party would come to miss Blair, watching Portillo last night on Thatcher it was interesting how even the dripping wet Chris Patten regretted the manner of getting rid of her - in hindsight it would have been better to let the voters decide rather than disaffected MPs. Similarly many Labour MPs in marginals will, come the general election, rue the day they swapped a proven three times winner for a dithering, cowardly, psychologically flawed weirdo.

Im not sure bliar would be any more popular if he was still around. NuLabour will lose the next election because ALL of their policies have failed.
Looks like David Miliband was right.
And they are seen as a corrupt, self serving, out of touch gang of theives presiding over a slide into depression
Guido, you're falling for Iain Dale/Conhome's spin that the Tories are ahead in the North East. I can assure you they ain't. The Com Res has Tories ahead 30-29 across the North, i.e. NW, Yorks, and NE. There's no way the Tories are ahead in the NE especially after their approach on Northern Rock.
I pray the good people of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath will vote Brown out at the next general election.
the new labour war party is finished then.
if you unfairly and disproportionately tax low earners it is obvious that you will lose their vote.
labour has killed the goose that laid their golden egg.
the tories conspired against thatcher after she had done the dirty work, gordon brown conspired against tony blair and some people are now conspiring to bury brown. that is politics, good innit.
note to speaker martin: we want those airmiles, taxi expenses and house allowances you fiddled returned.
you lying, thieving bastard.
resign idiot.
I agree with anon 10:30. It's not against Brown, its against the whole party. 24 hour drinking, Northern Rock, dodgy dossiers, fiddled expenses (all parties I know but labour to) cuts in public spending and wage rises, while MPs ask for a large raise for themselves.
Labour have been in for 10 years, and everything seems to be worse.
I for one am sick of the spin, the newspeak and the sheer bloody lies. Just not at Brown, but all of them.
It wasn't Brown who was responsible for getting us into Iraq.
Guido, I love your blog but please, when mentioning toilets maguire (even writing his name is enough to make me puke, twat he is ) please do not put a picture up of the shit has i have just damaged my monitor punching it!
Any suggestion that keeping Mrs T was a mistake is nuts. She had totally lost public support and was a lianbility as her political judgement had gone.
See her subsequent endorsements for:
Major, Hague and Howard..losers all.
Mrs T is last century's news: yes a great PM etc... but ,,,,
Your memorialising of Bliar is quite extraordinary given the contents of this blog during the last year of his premiership.
You describe him now as "a proven three-times winner," but let's not forget you also thought he was a crook who was selling peerages for Labour Party funds.
You can't really believe what you wrote then and simultaneously think the Labour Party would be better off if he were still in charge.
For Labour to replace Blair with Brown is a bit like the Rolling Stones replacing Mick Jagger with Liberace.
many Labour MPs in marginals will, come the general election, rue the day they swapped a proven three times winner for a dithering, cowardly, psychologically flawed weirdo.
Oh come on, Guido! Why hold back?
(Don't know much about this Maguire chap, but the photo makes him look dreadfully camp.)
It is going to get worse for Brown. The 10% tax band goes this April, pensioners and the low paid will see an immediate drop in income. This was Brown's decision taken when he was Chancellor, I will wager that he does his very best to blame it on Darling.
I'm sorry but the polls tell a sad story of modern Britain. It is still the case that 30% of the country think that Labour is the best thing since sliced bread and another 17% are happily planning to vote for a party that can never reasonably expect to achieve power. Sure, you can add 7% to the Tories score to reach what their election result is likely to be, but the fact remains that most of our compatriots are dimwits.
ken dodd,
gordon brown was tony blair's bagman for Iraq.
which makes him equally culpable, does it not?
@ Madasafish 10.52 am.
Yes- Thatcher was as mad a flock of umbrellas when she was forced to relinquish power. I, for one, was glad to see the back of the old hag.
However, as time as marched on, I have been forced to admit that she was RIGHT re: the EUSSR.
And that's why the likes of Clark and Patten wanted to get rid of her- the old girl actually cared about her nation's future and could see the big picture.
All our PM's since have slavishly followed the pre-determined EUSSR programme.
I still think she did more harm than good, though.
Various posters are trying to claim that the Tories don't lead in the North-East. True, the poll only talks of the "North", but are we to believe that the Tories have a disproportionate lead in the North-West to balance out a Labour lead in the North-East?
An 11 point lead is just staggering. Amusing to see the Independent, which commissioned the poll, trying to hide the result. The Grauniad, which adores psephology, has ignored it altogether.
Fingers crossed Labour can fall below the magic 30 point threeshold.
Google throws up (along with the rest of us)...
"about 51,800 for gordon will be a fucking awful prime minster."
I think John Hutton was right.
Who is this Richmond-based "professional Geordie" McGuire - and does he use the same eye-liner as Andy Burnham?
Mucky Mick keeps his hands on the House of Commons tiller to the cheers of MPs.
MPs can expect Guido and his moles to expose their greedy plundering of the taxpayer.
But will NuLab have the guts to oust Brown (and replace with Miliband?) before the next Election?
Things you seldom hear
"Gordon will be a fucking awful prime minster ... but, of course, I shall be happy to serve in his cabinet."
MacGuire's a hateful cunt
The last poll placing Tory lead at 3% was blazoned everywhere and in particular the dear, impartial, licence funded, wonderful centre of impartial excellence, The BBC!
Today, not a whisper.
Whatever a pollster's bias and leanings, that this poll shows a shift at the lower end of economic income levels, is earth shattering.
At last this Government's uselessness to manage The Nation's affairs before their own, is coming home to roost.
So significant, Snotty could be forced to dismount his play steed, (no, not Beckham) and demand a clean nappy!!
Bliar would have been in a similar position, possibly even worse. The trick that he pulled off was to hold on until the last possible moment, when the wheels were about to come off the economy, before passing the wheel to Broon. If he had lingered, his options would have been limited to sticking it out or sacking Broon and trying to blame him....who would have been unlikely to roll over and die!
wheat futures just hit a record high, and countries all over the world are introducing export restrictions on it. It's food inflation that'll finish this bunch off.
madasafish.
Lady Thatcher was 20 points behind Labour and went on to win in the next General Election.
She may have been behind at the time of the cowardly backstabbing operation by second rate politicians. BUT neither you nor I could say with any conviction that, had she remained in power, she would not have won a fourth term.
I happen to believe she would have.
Kinnock, Smith and Blair were no match for her! But Major was knocked for six by Blair.
Yes, she is elderly now but that does not mean you should show such contempt. You probably cannot recall how low this country was when Callaghan was in power. Strangely it is just like today.
What has been shown is that Labour cannot manage. Cannot govern and hopefully this will be the last Labour Government.
Sadly, they have delivered this once great country into the arms of the EU. So Socialism will still control us for years and years to come.
"I pray the good people of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath will vote Brown out at the next general election."
It is possible, for 3 reasons:
- the wrecked economy;
- SNP are trouncing Liabour in Scotland;
- Broon's home constituency of Dunfermline was lost to the Lib Dems (before the SNP's resurgence took hold). The previous MP (Rachel Squire) was very well-respected locally, unlike the parachuted-in Euro MP!
genghiz,
however, you have to admire gordon's consistency - he was a fucking awful Chancellor as well !
nulab = Serially Incompetent
Criminally Corrupt
Perhaps the 'tipping point' for the Government is near and the Backbenchers are finally beginning to rue the day they ousted Blair in exchange for Brown. Question is, will they have the guts to remove Gordon (in favour of Miliband?) before the next Election?
Anybody know what is happening with the Abrahams inquiry?
Another NuLab cover up?
They should get that police sniffer dog from Jersey to have a look around New Labour and Number 10. If it can find a scent from beneath 3 metres of concrete then the multiple skid marks in Gordo's pants should be a doddle.
Off to Northern Rock branch today to check up on my new portfolio of 700,000 properties. I didn't even know I had bought them until last week. Might even withdraw £3500 as that's what they took from me.
"Have you seen the little piggies ....?" George Harrison was spot-on with that little ditty.
The Beckhams' visit to Chequers will send Brown's popularity skyrocketing, as he thereby conclusively secures the sub 60 IQ Football-charva vote, an important constituency for NuLab.
can we have a link to the Chris patten bit please?!!
Nobody in their right mind should want Gordon Brown to be ousted as Labour Leader before the next election. He's worth thousands of votes in the "marginals" - to the Opposition.
"a dithering, cowardly, psychologically flawed weirdo"
That's uncharacteristically charitable of you, Guido.
Madasafish (10:52): See her [Thatcher's] subsequent endorsements for: Major, Hague and Howard..losers all.
They lost not because they were loosers, but because New Liebour and the BBC conspired to repeat lies on such matters as;
1) describing the discussion of the "Open Borders" immigration during the general election campaigns as racism
2) crime being the lowest it's ever been in history (whilst somehow the prisons being the fullest and still not enough places)
3) scams like the PFI hiding the UK's REAL debts off the books - which let Gordon Brown move his "golden rule" countless times to make sure he appeared to meet it - and claim an economic miracle
4) idiot schemes like ID cards will somehow make you REALLY safe from burglars, muggers, rapists, and terrorists.
5) whilst the economy is rapidly falling apart, still pushing money wasting schemes such as the Olympics.
This time, it's all falling apart and there will be no getting away with it by New Labour, even with the liar Brown Broadcasting Corp. on their side.
Look at Red Ken Livingstone in London, he's loosing it, and so trying to pin all opponents to his misrule as being racists, especially if you hate Lee Jasper's juts for all the funny money schemes.

NuLab would certainly be better off with the bent peerage seller (and boy can he sell, if it hadn't worked out for him in politics he could have made a fortune in the motor trade) than the psychologically deranged, class obsessed, sexually repressed snot gobbling cyclops they've got now.
You are Kidding yourselves
ComRes are not reliable and use a very doggy system to collect their data.
Funny how ComRes always seem to come to Cambo rescue when he is in a jam.
Hopefully the D & E classes will come to their senses and cast their vote for the BNP (might even be a can super strength wife beater in it for them). Then we can set about hanging the cunts who have ruined this once great nation.
Strapworld @ 12.19 - thank you.
No-one seems to remember what a desperate shithole Britain had become under Wilson with his lavender friend, mendacious Sunny Jim, and the cottaging cunt Heath, Dead unburied, three day week, garbage in the streets, Red Robbo dictating the production details of Britains finest car exports the fucking Maxi/Allegro/shit, people all over the world rolling in the aisles as that unspeakable cunt Healey went begging to the IMF, "please mister, can I 'ave some more?"
Maggie WOULD have won again and those backstabbing cocksuckers she was surrounded by bear a huge resposibility for ZaNuLab's rape of the country that has brought us to this pass. Oh yes, I hate some of those self-serving fuckers more than this lot - they were OUR cunts FFS.
Seeing all those old Tory gits welling up over the demise of their great leader and surrogate mother last night was funny. Even more funny is that twats like Portillo seem to think that it was the "wets" who ruined the Tory party by forcing the old bat out, when it was her cronies insistence on putting their loyalty to the mad old trout before the good of their party and country who are clearly to blame. What they then did to Major was really stupid and caused the breakdown of the party into the national joke it is today.
They also handed Labour three almost uncontested election victories.
Likewise, your idea Guido that Labour would still be on top with Blair in charge is ridiculous. He went because he was finished, like Thatcher did, if he was still in charge Labour would be even more screwed than they are now.
this placing of gordon as john major , is very appropiate , he was after all an ex chancellor.
it is hard to say when mrs thatchers troubles started , she cleared the decks of leeches, freed up the economy , opposed europe superstate. but in her wake the beaurocrats were massing,
her no need for censnsous , but only good intelligence alienated all of thos that thought concensous could do a better job.
looking at she was right on nationalisation and the waste it creates. She must be so sad to see all the wankers and wasters that have now filled our parliment , with there tears of embarrasemnt at being caught either shagging, eating, or getting kick backs from what ever they touch.
she was the educated daughter of a shop keeper, who could see fairness , she was unfortunately sandwiched between snobs on both sides , the socialist snobs (who are current ruining everything) and the wealthy snobs who eventually did her in and then went on to make majors life miserable.
blair was just lucky enough to see the oppertunity that lay in the division.
gordon brown has now clearly lied to vast swathes of the uk population , and his own wonk ideolgy has become somthing all too dangerous . of course he needs his deluded cabinet , but they dont want to get media rot with him . as they think they will be in again soon.
i hope that when some of the stuff gets out what new labour have been doing , that they go to some shit hole for eternity .
we vote in the hope that the people who we elect will serve us to the best of there abilities , this lot have corrupted into class war, dysfunctional parliment, and the poor made to eat shit and the rich get to go to chequers .
i just hope that being as this is socalism third fuck up in the last 60 years , that we will have learnt our historical lesson , and burn them at the stake on sight , by law and by fucking common sense . same goes for anyone named mandelson or kinnock
There is no doubt that as far as the Labour party is concerned, Brown is a calamity waiting to happen, a disaster in the making. Unless Brown is removed Labour are sleepwalking into a comprehensive defeat.
It's strange, but half of me wants to grab hold of a few Labour MPs and shake these somnambulists out of their collective daydream; the other half wants to see him remain in place just to witness the slow-motion car crash.
There are a number of MPs with majorities under 3,000 and it's probably a lost cause for them whoever leads the party into the election in 2010. However, there are many others with majorities between 3,000 and 10,000 who should be taking a keen interest in the leadership. Those MPs now have a stark choice - either get rid of Brown, or make alternative employment arrangements.
I see that some of your readers have noticed the quite remarkable resemblance between Mr Toilets Maguire and Mr "Andy" Ladyboy-Burnham.
Are they perchance related?
I think we should be told.
Strapworld, 45.
Absolutely.
Anon 11:15 AM, ignorant cunt.
Homework by candlelight, no work, Clapham Common one giant heap of rubbish, everything nationlised and everything shit.
This lot have some way to go, but not far.
Same stupid, socialist cunts, same old shit, same result.
Miss the plague that was TB? I think he'd be faring even worse if he was in power, and the Cash for Peerages row would not have gone away.
Poor old gordon he is just shit however hard he tries whatever he does he looks shit he surrounds himself with 2nd and 3rd raters attempting to look good by comparison and that book oh dear what a mistake that was.
Toilets maguire can blow as much smoke up his ass as he likes nothing in this world will make people like snotty except trying bliar for war crimes.
he is the worst PM ever just shit.
Brown is so bad I now think Labour will ditch him - they won't want to risk the people's verdict. He'll be found hanging upside down from a lamp post one dark night. Done in by his own.
well what do you expect if you elect a man who has spent his adult life plotting .?
rector at edinbourough, asked for a after job got told 'no way jimmy!'
went to a tv channel but spent his time complaining of bias so left.. ~work ethic~ cough cough
joined in with blair plotting to be pm. Alert! Granita plot..!
spent 10 years plotting... (might have had some respect if he'd put the knife in over iraq but gordon tiny balls just didn't hav the decisiveness to do it.. ahh bless.. )
and now is PM ! congratulations your father would be proud !
oh shit all i can do is plot.!! what the fuck am i supposed to do .? i don't know about anything! just read out figures and hope to bore everyone to..sleep..by..spouting..party..political..shite..with..big..numbers....
is it working??
Although the ComRes poll may be very encouraging, the unreformed BBC News bastards will work away at their attrition undermining any threat to Labour.
Unless you reform BBC News, do not assume Labour are dead and out - I expect them to recover in the polls.
Those BBC News bastards are distorting all the bloody news and laughing at us.
Gordon Brown could make the Labour meltdown in the late 1970s early 1980s seem like a little local difficulty.
This could be the time when the Labour Party does what the Liberal Party did after WW1.
Guido, If I want to read conservativehome headlines I'll click on it. I promise you, within 6 weeks (if not 6 days) of that chubby tosspot getting into No.10, you'll be yearning to knife him, so don't puff him too high now.
Maguire? Northern? Sounds like an irishman's name to me...
"Brown is so bad I now think Labour will ditch him - they won't want to risk the people's verdict."
No they won't. No-one in Labour wants the job you see. They know they are finished. Only one or two in Brown's cabal might go for it they are so out of touch with reality. The rest of Labour are well aware of what is about to happen to the economy and what is going to happen to the Labour vote. That is why so many of them have stuck their hands deep in the till. They know the end is coming and they want to get as much money out as they can before it all comes to an end. Labour are finished, but then so is Britain.
ID cards, DNA retention, Police being judge and jury, internet censorship (google CLEANFEED and see for yourself) ...
Christs sake, you English have GOT to get rid of Brown and co, for your country's sake.
I don't fancy spending a weekend in the Lake District and being asked, "papiers, bitte" by your cops.
