How Much Did Hugh Muir Pocket Courtesy of Ken?
The Guardian's diarist, Hugh Muir, gave Boris a good going over yesterday in his diary column, all but accusing him of being a supporter of the Ku Klux Klan.Only on Saturday another Hugh Muir piece also appeared in the Guardian, headlined Boris Johnson Faces Conflict of Interest Charge Over Office, over Boris taking free office space from a Ken hating business.
Conflict of interest charges are serious indeed and should be answered. So how much did Hugh Muir get for his contribution to a report commissioned by Ken - The Search for Common Ground? We know it cost the Mayor's taxpayers £22,000. We know of course it had a foreword by Mayor Ken. What we don't know is how much of the taxpayers £22,000 Hugh pocketed courtesy of Ken.
Guido has tried to contact him to find out, but no reply so far. Hugh's article on Boris concluded that Boris "should know there is no such thing as a free lunch". Quite, so how much did Hugh get from Ken Livingstone?

The Graun has lost it. Two puff pieces by Livingtsone on CiF, one from Davos. Funnily enough, the abuse he gets in the comments and the shameless attempts by GLA staffers to come on the thread and pretend to be 'supporters' is so laughable, that the Davos thread was killed by the editors after just a few hours and less than 100 comments.
I think what's happening playing out here is my 'Eton meets leafy middle class at the Freshers week' theory. The lefty middle class lot that run much of the media and politics have never recovered from meeting ultra-confident county-set Tories at university. (See this week's Telegraph interview with Alan Bennet). Decades on, they still wither at the sight of a toff in full flight.
To see Boris and Cameron in charge would be far, far worse than the days of Maggie. Just watch the anti-Boris tactics go nuclear over the next few weeks.

A chippy diarist would seem to be a contradiction in terms. A diarist is supposed to blend seamlessly with the glitterati, breathlessly reporting their self-indulgent excesses to a forelock-tugging populace. I've no doubt that if a few OEs would care to welcome Muir to their clubs, lend him their wives and generally make him feel one of the gang, he would cheerfully oblige with more positive stories in the Grauniad.

a both familiar and unfamiliar performance from Gordon today, purple, perky ,seemed a bit more prepared , however still its his answers that the public notes are lacking, time after time gordon broen/pm is now assocaited with spin and non answer. this conspires to add to that he cant be trusted .
he is supposed to answer opposition questions , this being the public display of being confronted with an issue , rather than the Andrew marr type interview/briefing.
he may think its clever to hold the power by not answering (deputy speaker seems blasie at enforceing this).
vince cable did an excellent job, clegg seemed light but hes still on trial.
