How Guido Destroyed Hain's Ambitions in 12 Months

On January 29, 2007 Guido threw Hain's leadership campaign into disarray by revealing his campaign strategy and supporters. It led to chaos in Hain4Labour. The leak meant that nobody in the campaign trusted anybody.

In May 2007 Guido revealed the Hain4Labour campaign budget and that sleazy lobbyist Steve Morgan was arranging the financing.

On the morning of December 3, 2007 Guido chased down an undeclared donor and talked to Hain's Special Adviser Joe Carberry to ask about missing undeclared donations. That afternoon Hain went to see the Electoral Commission.

On January 8 this year Guido revealed the links between campaign donors and endorsements from Hain.

Get the full background to the story:

All Guido's recent Hain stories. All Guido's older Hain stories.

Mike - "Why ? What had the guy done to you for gods sake ? Just being bloody minded is a sad way to go."

Did you miss the bit where Hain broke the law? Did you miss the bit where his boss called him "incompetent"?

Well done Guido - there is only one thing that Peter Hain is interested in and that is Peter Hain. His abandonment of any remaining principles in selling himself to his enemies merely to attempt to get into power as Deputy Leader was sickening.

My opinion of him before that was low...now it's non-existent. He was the absolute worst of NuLabour.

Good riddance.

Guido, well done and richly deserved.
It would be churlish to deny a chap the right to a degree of dick-waving in such circumstances, but may I counsel a degree of restraint? Many newcomers may now start visiting the site, and reporting the casualty more in dignified sorrow and concern at "the state to which ministerial behaviour has sunk" etc etc rather than "ding dong the witch is dead" is likely to be more influential in the long run.
Fair play, though: take the rest of the day off and award yourself a jereboam at once.

surely this sets a precedent for any cabinet minister (Harmann or even Wendy Alexander) to have to resign if they are investigated by the police?

Nailing Wendy would destroy Brown's credibility in his own (hitherto) fiefdom.

There is a strong suspicion in Scotland that the Electoral Commission is being leaned on to produce a pro-Wendy verdict,

The BBC in Scotland has shut the Wendy crime story down completely, so you would be doing us a favour by opening it up again.

Guido,

as an above poster has mentioned, Wendy Alexander is the better target. Closer to Brown, on his home turf, and an actual admission of law-breaking by her team to boot. If the EC whitewashes her (as many up here suspect), you can be fairly confident more dirt will appear soon. And she's too incompetent to keep dodging the bullets.

To think it has come to this - we need one lone soldier fighting for the truth to expose Labour corruption because the massed ranks of the MSM refuses to do it. Look how corrupt our political elite has become. It is now exposed for all to see. Look how the BBC and the Guardian and all the newspapers went after Neil Hamilton - and that guy turns out to have been innocent!

We should march on London with pitchforks and shotguns, descend on Parliament, the Mayor's office, the offices of the BBC and the newspapers. 1) A French bank is the victim of fraud.
2) The Scotland football team appoint a new manager.
3) Some people are arrested for child trafficking.
4) The new James Bond film's name is announced.

One story BBC News 24 doesn't think is even worthy of mentioning:

A member of the Cabinet is forced to resign his position after an investigation into his financial affairs is referred to the police.
