Not content with bringing peace to the Middle East Tony is advising the President of Rwanda on "institutional capacity building". Liz Lloyd, who was deputy chief of staff under Jonathan Powell in Blair's Downing Street, his former private secretary Kate Gross and David Easton, (ex McKinsey) are holed up in the Aga Khan's Hotel Serena where the presidential suite goes for $2,000 a night.

Guido is worried that Blair is succumbing to the Jimmy Carter delusion, that he can solve the worlds ills. To be fair Jimmy Carter has in fact done a lot of good and it hasn't cost the taxpayers a penny. Blair on the other hand has his office subsidised by the taxpayers through the FCO.

That the PM who sold more peerages than any other in history is advising President Kagame on anti-corruption issues, does have some ironies. Admittedly he is doing it for free. On balance Guido commends Blair for this, well us Catholics do have to do more than just Hail Mary's for penance...

Incidentally the Blair Foundation at first denied this story for some reason. They claimed that Liz Lloyd did not work for the Blair Foundation, which is technically correct. Old habits die hard, eh?

Admittedly he is doing it for free.

Much as I would love to believe that Mr Blair is doing international relations for 'free', somehow I don't quite believe it. Of course 'free' under New Labour usually interprets as 'the poor bloody taxpayer is paying for it'.

If he was advising the President of Rwanda on genocide, I'd say he knew what he was talking about. Just how many Iraqis was it?

Tell us Guido: does Pugatory still exist (or has it been abolished by a recent Pope, like limbo was)?

If it does still exist then how many cardinals, @ 200 years remission a go, will it take for Tone to make it into the after-life?

Talking of after-life, I hear that some of the PDs in the 'Free State are being asked to extract themselves from Ahern's outfit (because of 'poor standards at the top'). What chance of that?

Leaving aside your grammar Guido, and your addiction to religious mumbo-jumbo, just what the fuck have the poor Rwandans done to deserve a plague of such biblical proportions as the slimy cunt Bliar and HM the First Letter-Box-in-waiting of Europe?
One would think a touch of genocide, some limbs hacked off, necklacing et al would be enough for those poor souls to have suffered without the final pain and humiliation of rich oily bastards the likes of the blue-tinted cunt Bonio, the great unwashed Getoff, and now the repulsive freeloading Blairs to have to put up with just as they can spot a bit of blue sky ahead.

They can only take it as the final, incontrovertible sign that there is and was no god, now or ever.

Is the delectable Ruth Turner still with him?

She is a minx - far too good for that old mincer Blair. If he is banging Turner on the sly, I shall be very angry but understanding: I would if I were in his shoes.

My main quibble with Tony Blair is not Iraq or Afghanistan (though may he rot in hell for these wars) or his other, lesser crimes against the world. I still have some respect for the man and his abilities as a politician.

No, what I shall never ever forgive him for is his parting gift to the nation: Gordon Brown.

Nope he has not got the Carter 'delusion' he's just delusional, and always was. He was deluded that letting his chancellor spend shed loads of money on what are laughably called public services without serious reform would do them any good. He was deluded in believing that beating the shit out of Iraq would be helpful, and he deluded himself into thinking that the massaged dossiers would make it justifiable.

He is a supremely shallow but extraordinarily effective survival politician, but he is completely self deluding in believing that that he will achieve anything. History will judge him this way. Skilfull at politics, useless at implementation.

And before anyone talks about the success in Ireland I am not all sure that it was all down to him, and he gave away a lot to achieve the result. (And again do not castigate me as anti IRA or anti Irish or whatever as I am not - I just sincerely want them all to be happy and peaceful in whatever way suits them best).

But fundamentally Blair is delusional in the same way that McFuckingBean is a ditherer.

Do you know what? It gives me no pleasure to broadcast this. He is a Dad, and to his kids a hero. I am soft enough not to want to belittle anyone in front of their own kids.

I have to agree that while I love this website, the grammar and spelling could be improved. Why not employ someone to check this for you? I'm sure you could afford it.

I'm sorry that there are so many pedants out here. We are OK with the occasional typo in the excitement of the moment, but poor spelling and grammar don't impress.

Attention everyone, this is the captain speaking. I’d just like to remind everyone that we all owe our lives to prime minister Brown being at Heathrow and handling our emergency, just as he handled the Glasgow car bomb, the foot and mouth outbreak and the floods. I for one would be delighted to have him photoshopped into a place of prominence on the flight deck and for him to receive all the credit he so richly deserves for his handling of our emergency. It is for his cool head, his farsightedness and his willingness to take decisions in the long-term benefit of passengers that the prime minister should be judged. And not that he’s a cunt. Oh do give over, this isn't the Literary Review. It is a blog done fast, without sub-editors.

If you are new here you should know the position of sub-editor is available and unpaid.

Basically when there is a corker of an error (like the typo of the week where the spelling of incompetence was wrong in the title) somebody will point it out and it will get corrected.

In posting a story ASAP the English gets mangled, it gets revised as and when, alcohol, weaning / teething children etc can all make this process hit and miss.

Apostrophes go awry, never Guido's strong point. Bear in mind the output here is done in the spare time between my other interests. When Simon Hoggart crafts half as many words a day as Guido does in an hour, he has spent all day on it. and it is far more polished.

As for "Us Catholics", that is acceptable use for an informal writing style. "We Catholics" sounds a bit formal.

The Blair stepped forth unto the Middle East and all stepped forth into the Light. 'I will deliver you from war, poverty, and prickly heat' pronounced the Blair. The King of Lies then waved his hand and 'Lo all the terrorists laid down their arms and sang 'All praise the Blair'. The Blair looked down on the Moors and was satisfied. The Blair turned his attention to the next place on Earth needing his divine intervention- except Britain- he fucked that up real good!

Excuse me, WW, but you mean 'well 'ard' not 'proper hard'.

45govt said...

No, I but think you mean well 'ard!

When I was at school, admittedly a long time ago, a proper noun was one that REQUIRED a capital letter,
e.g names, places etc., unlike your "Grammar". Guido has warned us, quite rightly about pedantry however, and I will defend to the death, (preferably yours!) your right to misspell, and even be a cunt. Go to it!

Stan's rants will repay the employment of a slightly longer attention span, as often one will learn stuff one didn't know. Scotland against crooked lawyers is a site that has opened my eyes, and "Operation Ore".

Judith and 45g, on this occasion I will admit, 'well 'ard' would have been the correct term.

And when I was at school admitting you knew what a proper noun was, was a sure fire way of getting

a) your head flushed down the bog. b) the shit kicked out of you.
c) both of the above.
