Conservatives Want Conway Gone Away
Over at ConservativeHome the grassroots are united. Derek Conway should go. Many activists saying that they don't want to be on an equal sleaze footing with Labour."The silence from the party leadership is deafening and very depressing" complains one activist, "There is no excuse for Conway's actions I really will protest long and hard if Cameron does not withdraw the whip and call for his constituency party to deselect Conway." The grassroots are looking for decisive leadership "David Cameron now MUST taken action to clean up the mess." Mark Fulford summarises the attitude of many "David Cameron: the clock is ticking. Derek Conway is undermining trust in Conservatives and has to be thrown out, now. No ifs, no buts."
Usually loyal Conservative bloggers are also giving Conway the thumbs down. Over on CentreRight, Alex Deane frames it not in terms of tactics or strategy, rather as a question of old fashioned right and wrong. Tim Montgomerie says Cameron is making the wrong choice. Shane Greer wants Conway to stand down. Conservative Party Reptile wants "serious measures", A Tory Blog wants him to consider his position. Dave has to "show some cojones in contrast to Brown" says the Englishman, Letters from a Tory is "disheartened and disbelieving". Loyally, Dale says he is not going to join in the public kicking of his friend. But he doesn't defend Derek either.
Cameron's office say that he will keep the party whip according to Ben Brogan, claiming the punishment is for the Commons to decide, washing his hands in the same way Gordon said it was a matter for the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner to deal with Peter Hain. Not good enough, show leadership, don't dither. Politicians just don't seem to get how everyone outside the Westminster Village is disgusted with their self-serving ways. They are their own judges and jurors. They are more often than not guilty of venality yet they almost always get off...
Cameron should dump Derek, not dither indecisively as more and more sleaze drips out, Conway is a repeat offender according to the Mail's front page. The Tory brand risks becoming re-contaminated...
(Great headline in the Mail, where do they get their ideas?)

This is Dave's big chance to show he's the leader Brown isn't. I have a feeling he'll blow it. He won't get another opportunity to bury the phrase "Tory sleaze" while he's party leader. The issue of political trust is one which could really make the difference for a lot of undecided voters.
It is a simple choice for Dave - do I want power or am I prepared to sacrifice my/our chances over a little nobody of a venal chancer like Conway.
This is a no-brainer Dave, blow it and let there be no misunderstanding - you blow EVERYTHING you have done to get you this far. You are not alone, don't shame all your supporters by dithering over this. You may have to make hard choices, in politics it comes with the territory, but this isn't one of them. Throw him to the wolves.
Con-way. Appropriate.
On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students, pointing out some of the rules: "The female dormitory will be out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to the female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will be fined $20 the first time."
He continued, "Anybody caught breaking this rule the second time will be fined $60. Being caught a third time will cost you a fine of $180. Are there any questions?"
At this point, a male student in the crowd inquired: "How much for a season pass?"
Yes fair is fair and Derek Conway should go. HOWEVER there must be a full and detailed investigation into EVERY SINGLE MP in westminster to see who they employ and if family members then the same should apply to them.
Didn't that outstanding Foreign Secretary Margaret Becket employ her husband for fucks sake
I suppose in a room with 650 other crooks they cant see anything wrong.
How did we ever get to this? run by crooks for the benefit of rich crooks .
How are the sons of Conway - or Blair or Straw or Hain - ever going to assume their rule over us if common people keep nitpicking like this ? At least Flashman has the right idea. Least said soonest mended; all row together, that's the spirit. We all know who is the real enemy, everybody outside the House; not sure why we carry on allowing them to vote for us. Sometimes think they really don't deserve us. Shall we go and have a subsidised G&T in one of our many subsidised smoking bars ? Might see poor old Jerry Hayes. He's always good for a laugh. Cunt, mind. Doesn't matter about Conway; it'll all blow over; always does.
"(Great headline in the Mail, where do they get their ideas?)"
LoL. Now you're claiming to have invented the phrase "snouts in the trough"?!
Guido's having an Al Gore moment...
Late one night a mugger wearing a ski mask jumped into the path of a
well-dressed man and stuck a gun in his ribs.
"Give me your money," he demanded.
Indignant, the affluent man replied, "You can't do this- I''m a Member of Parliamnet
"In that case," replied the robber, "give me MY money!"
Perhaps they should rebrand themselves "The Daily Guido".
Problem with this srort of expenses scrutiny is we all know they're a fiddle (why otherwise the lack of requirements for many receipts?). Booting Derek will serve to start the dramatic unravelling of many MPs wooly expenses jumpers. (c)2008 Tuscan Tony - my lawyers are watching, Mr Dacre.
Either Dave is a complete fuckwit and does nothing or
He's got his minions working out how many other mp's employ their family members without any evidence of work, before giving Conway a big shove
It's not quite a nuclear option, but nearly, as huge numbers of mp's are all in the same situation as Conway. Factor in Mr & Mrs Balls £40k mortgage subsidy and beyond and a shit storm could start
Could be a lot of fun though
Mr justice Cocklecarrot: You have been found guilty of burglary including the theft of a DVD player and a plasma TV. You are hereby sentenced to return the DVD player.
Accused: Sorry your M'Lud. I promise never to get caught again.
Do nothing and it starts to look like they're all up to the same tricks.
The new rule should be no Family Members to be involved in salaries and expenses. Conway should go and go now, along with Alexander and the Labour Deputy Leader.
Cameron has lost my vote, Conway should have been chucked out of the Conservative Party on his arse immediately this story broke and had been verified by SW1P.
Now kettle/pot & the colour black are forever engraved in my mind over this affair.
Come on Dizzy, be fair.
How the hell can Dave take action quickly when it will take a couple of days frenetic focus group activity to determine the way forward. Blog commentators' opinions will only be part of it.
Let's draw a line under this until Thursday at the earliest. With a bit of luck it will by then have been overtaken by another Labour MP with his fingers in the till.
I worked at Parliament a few years ago, for only three months. I can still demonstrate the work I did at the time through my old e-mails (along with a number that I shouldn't wish to see published (too much Tory totty)). If Conway's kiddies did any work, there would be a record.
Agree Conway should be "disposed " The episode must be used to activate legally binding measurs on "all politicians and civil servants" to accurately and truthfully account for each and every expenditure using public funding. All documentation for same freely available to public scrutiny
JH
To those saying they are all at it:
there is a difference, between employing wife as secretary or on occasions employing secretary and becoming wife! If she actually does the job. If the kid gets a small sum in the summer holidays for stuffing envelopes for daddy so what, if he is doing minimum wage level work and getting minimum wage.
The point here is the accusation is he paid the son £40k for doing NOTHING, got away with it and then did it again.
Kick the bugger out.
Ask the police to investigate for fraud and if case to answer so be it.
Any lawyers around? One of the Sections of the present Theft Act casually mentions an offence described as "obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception", what was known in the old Act as "false pretences". Why is Mr Plod not called in? You tell me.
Four snouts in the trough, Conway, Mrs Conway, two Hooray Henrys. Family profit, say 100k. Nice work and huge profit, penalty two weeks rest and recuperation. You couldn't make it up. Well, come on Commander Yates, feel four collars because THIS was a family conspiracy.
Keep it up with the Iron Broom Guido! The Augean stable is filthy!
How is it that Call Me Dave can act so quickly if one of his MPs says something that may be percieved as being not quite right-on, (however innocent the intention) but when it's a trough-snaffling issue he is so slow?
The sword of Damocles should not just be hanging over Conway, it should have fallen by now and severed his links from the Tories by a considerable distance.
The longer Boy-Dave dithers, the more ammo he is giving to Nulabour, to the BBC's Ministry of Truth, and, frankly, to voters, who will remember his double standards at the next election, and, God forbid, let Snotgobbler's team of useless spivs back in.
The meter is ticking, Dave.
E U Bill - reduction in number of days for debate form 18 to 12.
Conway - Maastricht Rebel - found with snout in the trough.
Conway - supported CMD'd rival?
Alexander/Harman and Brown still not transparent with lists of donors.
Conway ex whip - ought to know better.
Isn't one of the Cabinet employing her husband as a secretary?
Conway has nearly caught up with Hain, if Cameron lets this sleaze go he does not deserve trust and office, he has a simple choice, bottle this and he will never be PM, it's your call Dave.
If he was my friend I'd tell him to go, and have the honour of admitting his own fault and being able to accept the inevitable consequences.
There is no way his son could have carried out a part time job in London from Newcastle on Tyne. It's a farce trying to pretend otherwise.
Conway said in his apology to the House that no judgment of him from anyone else could be as harsh as he is of himself...for what he calls his 'administrative errors'.
In that case, he should unquestionably resign. Otherwise that claim is also laughable.
His position is morally no better than Peter Hain's. Apart from the evidence possibly not being strong enough to obtain a conviction in a court of law, there is little doubt that he has committed a crime.
He has fabricated a story, using falsehood to obtain a pecuniary advantage by deception - s.11 Theft Act 1967.
The problem is, Iain, that Cameron is also standing by his friends, and it stinks. David Davies would no doubt be making special pleading for Conway, for one.
If the Conservatives want to be taken seriously as a party with a mission to stop the corruption of British society, as they claim, the fight against corruption has to start right at the top. Or they can forget it.
Conway has to go.

There is nothing wrong with an MP employing a member of their family providing that person actually does sufficient work to warrant the payment.
When the Standards Committee enquired into IDS's employment of his wife they decided that she had done just about enough work to justify the pay (it was some of IDS's staff who had complained that she did very little).
CONways's son is noticeably quiet. You would have thought that he would have supported his father by publishing a detailed account of the work he had done and the time he spent on it. Of course, all the time Parliament was in session over the period in question it was term time at the University where he was studying full time (and which was 300 miles away from Parliament and his father's constituency).
I think so and if you have read more at Ministry of truth you will see it is only going to get worse . What a silly vain and preening man he is and should be was
I heard that Rex the dog was on a col 10k a year and the cat was on a whopping 12.5k Fuck knows how much Granny Conway was getting!
Chuck him out. This kind of nepotism shouldn't have any place in our political system. Davey boy ought to make an example of the grasping bugger, and then read the riot act to the rest of the troops telling them in no uncertain terms that they'll get the same if they treat our taxes like a personal account.
This is disappointing, Guido.
You did sterling work in getting rid of Hain, but don't now hop in with the MSM on this non-story.
Of course the MSM are all over this story, but that's because they - particularly the BBC - take their line directly from Downing Street. If Conway was a Labour MP, does anyone here genuinely believe it would warrant a mention on the BBC? Not a chance. And it absolutely wouldn't be on the front of the Daily Mail, if at all, thanks to Brown's friend Paul Dacre.
This is an absolute non-story. Yes, an oversight by Mr Conway, but a trifling matter compared to what NuLab have been up to. It wouldn't even be known about if he was a Labour MP - the big crime he has committed, in the eyes of the Labour-cheerleading BBC and newspapers, unfortunately, it that he's a Tory.
Shame on you, Guido, for giving this story any credence at all.
The Bexley Times on 31 May 2007 reported that their local MP Derek Conway "dismissed revelations that his son is on the Commons payroll
despite being in full-time education as "a one-minute story".Old Bexley and Sidcup MP Derek Conway was unrepentant about accusations of sleaze,
saying the payout was for "part-time holiday work", and was sanctioned by parliament.
Part-time holiday work Mr Conway? When the Select Committee on Standards and Priviliges notes that Frederick Conway
had been on sick leave from May to the end of his period of employment. ie. from May to 24 August 2007 - for four months -
which to my understanding is university summer holidays and as you state in your local paper it was part-time holiday work
although we all now know that he was paid monthly for the duration of his time at university. Now we also know that he was
off sick for 4 months when he could have been working...Well I am glad Mr Conway that it is no longer a one minute story!
But why has it taken the press so long to follow this up?
MPs from all parties are coming on TV and radio today closing ranks and trying to defend the indefensible like the greedy, arrogant scumbags some (though not all) of them are.
Conway's son number one was given £40,000 of taxpayers money (the eqivalent of £25,000 per annum gross)This was supposedly for working for his father but there is no evidence whatsoever of any work being done and the lad was a Newcastle University student throughout this period. I expect we'll soon be reading stories of the profligate lifestyle he led as a student and how he boasted to his mates of the source of his dosh?
It seems clear that blatant embezzlement of taxpayers money is involved here and if anyone claims otherwise then they are just taking the piss.
Meanwhile it appears that son number two was also given £32,000 of taxpayers money and Conway's wife was also on the payroll.
This Conway tribe are giving the arch-sleazebags the Kinnocks a run for their money in the fiddling stakes.
It's upto Cameron now. Sack Conway or wallow in the gutter with Brown and co.
BTW I am a Tory.
Of course he should go.
But so should many others.
For democracy to mean anything the 'rulers' have to be accountable to the electorate - and that shouldn't be restricted to the election of parties once every 5 years.
Throw the self-serving scum out.
And if Dave won't do what's right he should be thrown out too.

I see you Labour trolls are trying a new tactic.

Looks like we are well on our way to leaving this accursed "union" my sassenach friends!
Leave you all to moan and groan about how your "mother of parliaments" has been shafting you lot for decades! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
I would like an elected representative that I can look up to and respect, to date all I am witnessing is amateur crooks getting caught with their fingers in the till and what is worse is that their fellow elected representatives and party leaders, instead of forcing resignations they are standing firm with them, which leads to only one conclusion, they are all crooked.
I'm not sure! Labour have refused to sack and Labour wrong-doers have refused to resign unless they've been caught red-handed and the police are brought in.THEY DO NOT RESIGN.It seems to have worked for 10 YEARS.If the press don't compare and contrast then people have short memories.Lord Carrington went before anyone raised their eyebrows at him. Those days are gone. The trouble is if Conway goes before Harman and Wendy Alexander then the sleaze bug that is looking for a host will be injected in The Conservatives by the Left Wing madia (ie all of it).People aren't potential criminals until they're charged.Better to let the procedures take their course.Labour won't change.By admitting sleaze you invite it.It's only criminal charges that will end the 'they're all the same' thinking. It's more likely that charges will happen to Labour.Let it be so as they have dragged this country into cavalier corruption unseen since the 18th century.
Oh throw Conway to the wolves by all means.
But only on the condition that every single member of the Labour party who said Hain shouldn't be kicked out signs a pledge supporting him. It's only fair.
Sham that your poll choices are in a black font - so difficult to find the right button!
Rid politics or ALL CROOKS. Us voters would give them more respect then. This one is no better than the sleazy Lab CROOKS and this one should be dumped as well. This blog has the duty to unravel ALL CROOKED actions not just ones that are hued in RED.
If you support this CROOK you are no better and probably have something CROOKED to hide. Shame on you too!
cam4me:
You don't get it do you?
Diverting thousands of pounds of public funds towards your son's education is not a trifling matter.
It is a question of TRUST and HONESTY.
T R U S T.
H O N E S T Y.
The labour sleaze stories are bad because they show MPs being DISHONEST and UNTRUSTWORTHY.
These are absolute values.
There is no strength to the argument: "I'm going to vote Tory because they are dishonest and untrustworthy, but slightly less so than the other lot".
What is it about the westminster village? It's as if you have to go through a security check where your common sense is removed along with your belt.
The ordinary punters out in the real world just want the people who temporarily are given the people's power to be honest and trustworthy.
The *only* approach that is guaranteed to make them feel that this is true is to actually BE honest and trustworthy.
It isn't rocket science. For goodness' sake.
Tory MP who paid student son £40,000 'handed another £32,000 of taxpayers' cash to his other son'
Sack Conway today said at 9.55:
This Conway tribe are giving the arch-sleazebags the Kinnocks a run for their money in the fiddling stakes.
Too true; but the Kinnocks reign supreme
"I see you Labour trolls are trying a new tactic."
I'm hardly a Labour troll. I'm a Tory member. I just happen not to think what Conway did equates to the abuse of power on a systematic basis by Cabinet ministers such as Hain, Harman and Johnson. I also repeat the question: if Conway was a Labour MP, would it warrant a two-paragraph filler in the newspapers or a single second of BBC airtime? Self-flagellation doesn't win elections.
I cannot understand how anyone can work for 17 hours per day for three years and leave no paper or electronic record of work completed - particulary as he was producing very useful reorts. Mr Conway may claim not to be able to run an office but his secretary (on £40k pa)(another relation) should have able to do some filing.
He is quoted as saying his office is at the end of a long corridor which is why no one saw his son. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy comes to mind. And of course he was locked in and never allowed out for a meal.
MPs have just voted for a £10k (11.45%) in their Staffing Allowance - I wonder why?
Your poll - dark blue text on a black background is not the best combination. I had to highlight the text to find which was which.
I suspect that this is the tip of a very large iceberg. Who knows how many other MPs are taking us for granted? I hope that all the sleazebags in the Westminster 'village' are shitting themselves in case their 'fiddle' becomes exposed. How about the six figure sum for postage that one of the trough-gobblers claimed recently? The young Cameron MUST do something, but I think he must let the 'authorities' take their own course of action first. PMQs is going to be fun this week, eh? Incidentally, it is clear that most people on this blog do not support Conway. We at least know right from wrong. However, it all pales into insignificance when compared to that dreadful treachery perpetrated by Brown. Where's our fucking referendum you perfidious bastard?
Roger Gale said: "My understanding is still that, even in this day and age, in court a person is still considered innocent until proven guilty. In this case a man has been effectively told he is guilty until he can prove his innocence."
Does this mean Conway disagrees with the committee and would like this matter decided in court? Like fuck he would! The thieving bastard would do time if he was treated like any other benefits cheat.
"Independent" Today:-
Tories' poll lead slips despite Brown's woes"
Looks like you lot are stuck with us for the forseeable future! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Camay not having much impact, is he?
Wonder why?
They are all at it.
Lying scum the lot of them.
Thieving bastards to a man & woman.
They do it because they can.
They do it because there is no real sanction that can be levied against them when caught.
They do it because they believe that the British electorate are more about evolution than revolution.
I hope they are proven wrong & we see heads on pikes at Traitors gate - or shall we save that for the EU Constitreaty sell out?
I have a nagging feeling that all these low lifes thrown to the dogs is a way of distracting the public from the EU Treaty sell out.
Just how deep do you want to dig? you could end up with an empty house.
One really stroppy well known female MP in the east end of london is breaking all the rules, using public funds for political purposes totally unchecked, her postal bill is enourmous, but shes not paying it the tax payer is. Her staff paid for by the public purse spend more time on political shenanigans than on her constituents but nobody does a thing.
Cam4me - I'm a Tory member too, and I believe Conway is just as bad as Hain.
Quite frankly, I don't care how much coverage the MSM might have given Conway had he been a Labour MP. I care that he has smeared the good name of other genuinely honest MPs, of any Party, and has further diminished the public's waning interest in democracy.
And to call such long-term and deliberate fraud an 'oversight' is breathtakingly complacent, to put it mildly.
WOW! MP FIDDLES EXPENSES SHOCKER!!
Every MP should be sacked then. Conway has been taking the piss in a bigger way than most, probably, and has been found out, no doubt under the orders of McStalin, to deflect Labour sleaze allegations. But, like it or not, the system for expenses for MPs, allows this and has always allowed this type of thing to happen. That is why Conway only gets a slap on the wrist, because the system "allows" this to happen, it's just how far the MPs push-it and whether they can be caught out. It isn't any worse than claiming 50k worth of unreceipted taxi fares or travelling allowances, only whether someone worked for you or not, over a long period of time, can be judged more accurately and you can get found out more easily.
The system of MPs allowances needs to change, especially as it is so retrospective. Expenses should be scrutinised BEFORE they are paid, like they are in the private sector.
As a Conservative, Conway should respect tax-payers money a lot more, but if Cameron makes big deal of this, right now, it gives an excuse for Labour's minions in the media, to blow it up even more. Any action against Conway, should wait until the dust settles. If Conway had any decency he should step down a the next election. But I dissagree that Cameron should start in-fighting with Conservative MPs, at a time, when Labour want any excuse to take attention away from their corruption and Northern Wreck fiasco.
If politics were decent, then Conway should be punished by his Party, but who the hell think polits is decent?
For heavens sake Dave - stop dithering and get rid of him - its theft from the taxpayer - as if he needs it!
No doubt about it- if Derek Conway really supports the Conservative party he should go.
He should go so that they can maintain the upper hand over Labour, and Cameron should act decisively and swiftly.
Come on Dave- we want to believe!
One wonders if Master Conway declared his unearned income to the taxman.
"Quite frankly, I don't care how much coverage the MSM might have given Conway had he been a Labour MP."
But that is the issue here. The only reason we're discussing this here is because the Labour-supporting BBC and newspapers - who, incidentally, ignored the scandals of Hain, Johnson et al almost to a man - have whipped it up into an issue. This is manna from heaven for them - a Tory 'sleaze story'. By discussing it here, and laughably suggesting it's a resigning issue, we're just dancing to the Labour/BBC tune.
I can't believe anybody believe's Conway's error is up there with what Hain, Johnson and the like have been caught doing. Don't let the Labour-supporting MSM decide who has the whip withdrawn.
CCHQ may think that Conways 10 day suspension from Parliament is sufficient. It isn't !
Cameron's inaction on this is not good enough and a clear and unambiguous message needs to be given to all Tory MPs i.e There is NOT going to be a repeat of the Major "Sleaze Years" period and if you haven't go the message by now then you should have.
OK its tough but politics is a rough game - Derek Conway must lose the Conservative whip and Bexley & Sidcup Association need to take steps to have him deselected as a Conservative MP otherwise they will face accusations of condoning his actions and the fact that the Daily Mail is also alleging that his eldest son, now 25, was paid similar allowances whilst he was at university just makes the case against him even stronger
Cameron is bonkers for letting this go on as long as it has.
He has already thrown away a heaven sent opportunity to differentiate Con vs. Lab and allowed Lab to smokescreen their raft of crooks by saying everyones the same. (As writing this, have just heard Jeremy Vine on R2 basically equating Hain & cConway).
He's a bloody fool, chucking away thousands of votes for the sake of a fraudulent MP. How can he call Brown a ditherer ever again?
Perhaps we need a new leader too?
All that matters is that the 'Little People' won't notice and if they do won't care. After all they are the ones that elect these porkers.
It just shows what fifty years of a Marxist infiltrated education system can achieve. You have to take your hat off to them. Lenin would be so proud.
It's the electorate, stupid.
Resign? Fuck that. If I stole 40k from my employer then I wouldn't get off with "Sorry, well, I quit then", I'd be dragged off to the pokey, and if someone wrote to my MP pleading for clemency then the uppity little shitbag would be all sanctimonious and holier than thou.
Kicking him out of the Tory party seems like the very least that should happen to him to me.
cam4me, I could not afford to support my sons through their further education so I am indeed inclined to be one of those "laughably suggesting it's a resigning issue"
I am not dancing to any fuckers tune.... just judging what is right and what is wrong.... a process quite independent of party affiliation or political preference.
If you think grasping taxpayers money to pay your son for fuck all work is not a resigning matter perhaps you will tell us what might be.
Blunkett greased a visa.Blunkett provided transport for a girlfriend/broodmare.Blunkett may have dabbled in insider dealing.ONE OF THE MOST SENIOR politicians.Nothing happened. He was maintained in his grace and favour appartment after he left office.Hadn't thought about him for a long time before today.
Cam4me: are you stupid or what?
Fraud is WRONG! I am *glad* that this has been brought to my attention. That the left wing press are reticent to do so to the misdemeanours of its own is utterly irrelevant.
Look: few people in the country are tribally 'labour' or 'tory', able to show faith in their colour no matter what their MPs get up to.
People like me will vote for whoever will DO what is *RIGHT*.
Now you may not give a damn if some tories secretly carry out various petty and not so petty frauds, but if you want your party to ever be in power, you have to realise that the rest of us in the real world have rather higher standards.
We are looking for alternatives to this scum of a goverment, and frankly, your position reminds me of the moral relativism of the left. It stinks.
What is the argument for defending Conway?
It is short-sighted.
It is wrong.
It is dumb.
There's nothing wrong with self flagellation if you realise there's something that needs fixing.
If you want labour to be booted out, then stop giving them the chance to point at you and say 'you're just like us!'
That's what they want. Perhaps it's what you want too.
Just put your brain into gear and start from first principles:
HONESTY and TRUST.
They should be the foundation of public service, not some stupid optional extra for career politicians to leave to their own personal judgement.
If you don't start doing your bit to ensure that HONESTY and TRUST are the founding principles of your party, then don't expect people like me to vote for your lot either.
The *only* way to ensure that the left wing press have *nothing* to get hold of is for your MPs to be HONEST and TRUSTWORTHY.
That's a win-win situation don't you think?
1) You win because you don't get dragged down by sleaze
2) The country wins because we'll start being led by people we can TRUST and who are HONEST.
cam4me - you really should ask yourself why you have been taken for a Nu-Lab troll. Too tricky for you? It's because the utter rubbish you have spouted makes it clear that you cannot tell right from wrong, and thus you would seem ideal material for the sleaziest party in British history.
We all know the Beeboids wouldn't have given the story a glance if it were a Nu-Lab MP, the point is that it's one of ours, and if we don't hold them to a higher standard, then just WTF ARE we doing about theft and corruption in Parliament? Left to you, nothing.
I am trying hard not to call you a cunt, but it is exceedingly difficult.
An aside. Son was playing a gig in Hull recently with his band. Four of them popped out during the interval to buy fish & chips.
Waiting in the queue, they noticed a gang of Hull's finest congregating outside the chippie. A teenage chav burst in, squared up to son and said "Why you fukkin lookin at me like at? Ah'll fukkin av yer"
Son said "Excuse me? I've never seen you before in my life". Whereupon chav slugs him full face.
Proud of your "education" system, Mr Blair?
P.S. Melee ensued, chavs pulverised with help from club bouncers nextdoor. Two of them last seen arm in arm with Plod.
This is exactly the situation where Cameron MUST show that he is not cut from the same cloth as Go'on.
He must be decisive.
Conway has made an admission in the most public way. There really is no alternative, Dave, and if you don't act soon, memories of last summer will come flooding back when the Tory font bench gave a passable impersonation of Dave Dee Dozy, etc.
And while you're at it, get that Tory MP who's constituency is minutes by train from Victoria to give up the disgraceful housing allowance or whatever it's called.
Anon@ 9.57AM:
Whilst I appreciate and wholeheartedly support the recent rise of the SNP, I also find your attitude to be rather smug.
From what I understand, the SNP wants Scotland to have 'independence within Europe'.
This essentially means that Scottish politicians will be susidised directly from Brussels rather than having to bother with London and the passive generosity of English taxpayers. Edinburgh will be nothing more than a regional EU 'capital. Scots will ridding themselves of one Union only to surrender themselves to the EUSSR.
Therefore, I don't think such a smug tone really helps your cause- especially with English nationalists who should be your natural allies.
If that's going to be your attitude, just make sure you shut the door on the way out, ok?
Cameron is blowing it. He attacks Darling for dithering over Northern Rock and Brown for dithering over Hain.
So now he is trading a Northern Wreck and the Hain / Alexander etc House of Cards for ... Derek Conway ?
Wow, Dave, you drive a hard bargain.
Mr David Cameron.
Please make a statement asap. Prove to the electors that YOU are different from ditherer Bean. Show us you are offended by the actions of Mr Conway, lambast and decry his fraudulent misuse of public funds.
Come the hour - cometh the MAN.
Are YOU that MAN?
ladies and gentlemen, I have two proposals to make.
I propose that we formulate a petition to demand that the term 'right honourable' be removed from MPs titles. these thieves, liars and perverts do not have an ounce of honour between them. we should not permit them to hide behind this charade of decency any longer.
my second proposal is based upon the following supposition.
party politics is the enemy of democracy. all of the parties are involved in an unspoken 'don't queer my pitch and I won't queer yours' agreement. party members have infiltrated every level of budget control from central government to local councils. our democratic process is being poisoned by party interests overriding local and national interest.
the answer lies in an application of a pure political theory. it is essential for us to evolve our democracy into a post party era. this can be achieved by us using our voting franchise to vote out every single sitting MP and every single sitting councillor. we should return in their place moderate local independent candidates, not socialists or fascist bnp or libdems or the green party or labrats or cons. all these self servers have their own agendas and their own party interests that take precedence over the needs and wishes of the local people.
if you haven't got a reasonable independent candidate, become one.
party politics will destroy democracy, because their view of us is highly abusive and be summed up like this
'lets bullshit these cunt voters until the end of this parliament and then we'll give them some more bullshit in our manifesto which we have no intention or legal obligation to honour. then, when we get in we can fuck them all real good while we fill our pockets and our friends pockets full of their cash.'
even if my theory was only partially implemented, it would scare the fucking living daylights out of them and would get these cunts back int some kind of order.
it would also damage their well nurtured web of corruption, possibly terminally.
it's just an idea.
Looks like another Tory MP has been a naughty boy with respect to his offspring.
Surely a far less serious offence than Conway's though.
Derek Conway, the senior Conservative MP under fire for making improper payments to his teenage son, has handed more than £260,000 to members of his immediate family since being re-elected to Parliament in 2001.
The Daily Telegraph has learnt that Mr Conway employed both his sons while they were at university as "researchers" and his wife is also a paid assistant. Each son was paid at least £10,000 a year, while Colette Conway picks up almost £40,000 a year – significantly more than the Parliamentary average for such a role.
Bloody thieving bastards!!
It's almost lunchtime.
Dave, you've got about 6 hours left before the early evening news.
Do it!
Never mind the short term problems it may cause within the tory party. It is how you are perceived in the real world that counts, and if you let this go unpunished, then slide on that snake all the way back to square one, right next to the snotgobbler.
Thick as Shit said...
"ladies and gentlemen, I have two proposals to make.

Only a few MPs have the title 'Right Honourable' - those who are Privy Councillors.
Conway's had the whip withdrawn (at last).
Should've done it yesterday though, after his admissions of guilt.
Radio 3 News just reported that Conway has had the whip withdrawn from him.
I agree with the majority of posts here. Removing Conway's whip would be front page news in every paper and would make the labour party look like the "sleazy party" in contrast.
Conway is a dead man walking anyway. Dave should give him the big heave-ho.
Breaking news - Cameron has just fired him
About time too
I have little confidence in any politician D Cameron is pretty much the same as any Nulab scum.
If this he the best the Tories can do then we might as well stay with Nulab, at least they are consistant.
One dithering theiving pratt is the same as another.
Us poor bloody taxpayers are so profoundly fucking hacked off with the political class and their attitude to other people's money.
I had hoped that Cameron was genuinely in favour of standing up for moral standards in public life. Seems he only favours standards for the lying, thieving Labour cunts and not the lying, thieving Tory ones.
Not only should Conway have the whip withdrawn - Cameron should insist that his constitiuency deselct him and that he pays the money back.
A zero tolerance line from the top would be a one way ticket to number 10 if he would only realise it.
The whip has been withdrawn from Conway.
Was he not just foolish? Surely most of them are simply greedy and stupid otherwise the country would not be being successfully invaded by the third world without any of us having the right to complain for fear of arrest for 'racism', 'hate' and the rest of the nauseating pc shite.
As MPs don't have to produce receipts for the expense claims and some of their's are outrageous, surely he should just have wound up his expenses to the tune of £10k - no receipts or employment issues?
Got 'im.
Dave has withdrawn the whip. The smug bastard is well-fucked.
Just in time to catch the 1.00pm news, CMD acts, and removes the whip from Conway.
I'd like to know if Conway had any unpaid interns working for him at the same time as employing his sons? Him and the other MP's who have staff at £0 per hour.

Conway must go. The below is not an excuse but a theory:
It's a tax fiddle. I'll bet there are a dozen MPs paying their wives alone the total his family have received. This business of "employing" three of them saves 40% tax on 20K a year, a not inconsiderable sum.
If this is the case I raise me hat to him while still showing the scum the door.
A final thought: How many close votes on the EU not-a-constitution-honest-guv treaty will he miss while suspended for 10 days?
Conway has had whip withdrawn see BBC
1.15 he has lost the whip (via the BBC)
Cameron has withdrawn the whip!
According to a member of the Standards Committee, Conway was twice invited to give his side of the story, but didn't turn up.
Guilty conscience or arrogance?
Glad that DC has at last withdrawn the whip.
Is Cameron that man?
Looks like he is!
According to news 24 he has had the whip withdrawn.
Gone Gone Gone
Conservative party withdraws the whip!
i know of at least two more MPs who have paid wives under maiden names while they were at home with the kids - sure this story will run and run.
Hes has gone. Dave did not dither...

now to get rid of some of those lying labour types. Perhaps they can form their own party: Socialists and Conservatives United Morons.
He's now had the whip withdrawn - 1.35pm on Tuesday
Dave's done it. Allelujah.
