Follett Contradicts Herself Again

Yesterday Barbara Follett released a statement giving a sort of non-denial of undeclared funding of her political office. She seemed to think that because the money was drawn from her husband via their joint account it did not have to be declared. Wrong.

The Huntsman blog which first drew attention to this undeclared funding reminds us about a statement released by the Follets and covered by Guido in November 2004. The statement specifically admits that her office "is heavily subsidised by her husband, Ken Follett... In the financial year 2003-2004.. she claimed only £118,214 in expenses. She contributed her entire salary of £55,118 to meet some of the difference. The remaining £102, 673 was met by Ken."

She was attempting to justify her claim for mortgage subsidy allowance on their £2 million mansion. If her political career is indeed being subsidised by her husband, she should declare it properly on the register clearly. The law is the law.

Shall we just do this alphabetically? Or, should we just give them a number?

Or should we shortlist those not involved in shabby funding?

So little time, so many to do.

nice to see a woman married to a multi-millionaire claiming mortgage allowance. all these labour scum need shooting.

Sad thing is, even with a watertight case against these lying, lowlife spivs, the CPS will decide that it is "not in the public interest" to prosecute.

2OO+k per annum to run a constituency office - WTF? How many people is she employing or what is she doing with that level of funding for her office?

Very worthy, except...

In the financial year 2003-04 the MPs' salary level was actually set at £56,358, according to HoC Information Office Factsheet M5

The figure of £55,118 applied in the year 2002-03.

Did the lady pay no income tax, no National Insurance and did she fail to contribute 10% to the MP's pension fund?

Perhaps deductions are for Little People?

Not wishing to be a pooper, it's a bit mean of you to object to Ken giving her housekeeping.

What I would query is the sums involved. She's effectively saying she needs 200 large ones a year in expenses. That's four grand a week. No wonder she's bursting out of that dress.

At least we know that Babs hasn't been shagged by Gordon. Shame we can't say the same about Peter Mandelson after Diane Abbott seemed to imply that he was Brown's "Monica Lewinsky on Andrew Neil last night.

So, in 2004, Mrs Follett was stating that her staff costs for a Stevenage office and another in Westminster were £182,000. Is this some kind of secretary fetish? If so, are there pics?

Is it true that the figure of 42 days detention which the government is now demanding is based on Jacqui Smith's bra size?

Who is the fiction writer in the family?

I have to say I am impressed by Mrs Follets defence. It is like saying "I'm so utterly witless I couldn't possibly be held responsible for taking unlawful donations". Imagine if it caught on with the rest of those in the frame.

Answer = a private prosecution.

In fact let's have a whip round and prosecute McBean, McBlair, Levy, Goldsmith, WeeLochness, Bottler, Phain and et cetera to infinity.

No wonder we need 3 new prison chips.

Sorry, but aren't these considered joint assets if they're married?

I hope not, but suspect it might be the case...

Why doesn't La Follet keep the secretarial post in the family like other normal nulab spivs?

"She spends all of her allowances and all of her salary running her office and I actually subsidise it to the tune of every year at least a hundred thousand pounds a year."

When do we get a proper Prime Minister and a Proper government!

This government is a political traffic accident; some of the injured are fighting for their lives in casualty while others still wander about in the road hoping for somebody to give them a lift home.

Pitiful

Maybe they should set up a phoney charity fund like certain well known doctors and then they could get a government spin doctor to explain how they have committed absolutely no crime.

They might even get a Panorama special in which selected friends contradict what they said last week to contradict what was said the week before.

Actually, she spends it all on shoes and chocolate, then tells Ken she spent it on politics.

That's what I do.

@transfattyacid:

Yes, they might even get to kiss the Popes ring! No, hold on, Brown's a Presbytarian so that won't happen.

What does this have to do with the crown prosecution service? Yes, this should have been declared in the Register of Members' Interests but failure to do so is not a criminal offence. MPs aren't accounting units registered with the electoral commission - perhaps they should be, but they aren't.

Lets all remember the holocaust and forget about this corruption scandal, which is all about....ahem...Friends of Israel and Jewish money in UK politics.
