Many years ago, I was at a function where Ken Livingstone and Jeffrey Archer were together on stage, debating their respective values for the job of Mayor.
The assembled 1000 or so diners were starting off pretty hostile to Ken (they were mostly from property/developing companies), but Archer lost the plot from a very early stage in the proceedings.
I remember feeling that the general change in attitude, which came half way through the evening, (not the wine thankfully..., well not too much - maybe a few...); was that even after all those unforgiving years when he planted a great poster on the turrets of County Hall, and tried to ridicule the Thatcher government, that maybe the guy could come back and do something...
This all stinks now, and where he might even have had support from a die-hard supporter of self enlightenment like me; this 'cabal' story has banished all goodwill which ever existed.
My business relies on getting buildings built, and I'm not sure he would work on my behalf any more, but make me pay more for the privilege. I'm pretty sure some of his cronies would get in my way.

If untrue, the allegations should be refuted and, if thought necessary, libel proceedings instituted.
If true, criminal prosecution of the guilty should be pursued. But, in Banana Republic Britain, don't hold your breath.

To be fair, the BBC has actually covered this story. They have led their London news programme on it twice - the second time (last Thursday) with a really inconvenient story for Ken.They showed he was simply lying when he claimed that all the projects the Standard investigated had "a full audit trail, with chapter and verse on how the money's been spent." The BBC found that the project at the centre of the story, Brixton Base (patron: Lee Jasper; director: Lee Jasper's close friend) had been audited and couldn't account for £193,000. Oh, and City Hall was actually taking legal action against them to recover £18k! Two facts the Mayor unfortunately forgot to mention in his furious denials of the original story.

Lee Jasper is a thug who is as despised by as many black people as white. He is, of course, an associate of Jesse Jackson, who knows all there is to know about mau-mauing the flak catcher.
According to Wikipedia, Lee Jasper was brought up by his single white mum. This could explain quite a lot about him - my experience of "black" people brought up without at least one black parent has been that they have far, far more of a victim mindset than other black people. They are sometimes denigrated as "Bounty bars" by real afro-caribbean Brits as they harp on about being black but have a white value system on the inside - see Ted Knight's comment above.
Unfortunately, while this crisis of identity might make one sympathetic to them it can also make them a pain in the butt to deal with.

Lee Jasper is simply a black-ish variant of the useless, self-serving, corrupt, overpaid, vacuous, unprofessional,chancers that infect the public services at the moment.Ken's the same. This clown, anointed by Ken as a 'leader' of the 'black community' (whatever that means)is an arrogant con artist who has cannot understand why your money shouldnt be in his pocket. I hear that this year Lee's sending out his Xmas cards in brown envelopes. His arrogance stems from the fact that the public authorities - be it the GLA officials, the police, the Audit Commission, Parliament - are full of useless, self interested, spineless turds who are too bent or frightened for their own 'careers' to address Lee's brazen theiving. Lee and Ken should be doing serious jail time.
Lee Bounty Jasper is actually loathed by all law abiding black sections of the community as the worst possible example of a corrupt politician covering up his crookery by playing the race card. They DON'T think that he's one of them, so Ken should drop his support if he wants any respect from the black vote.
