Police Confirm Investigation

Peter Watt could face up to 12 months for breaching the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 alone. There are various potential offences to consider. More here.

Roy Kennedy was the Director of Finance and Compliance when the illegal funding operation was under way. Labour sources have told Guido that he should have known, it is inconceivable that the third biggest funder of the Labour party could have gone unchecked. He was responsible for compliance with the law. The question is when did he first know about it?

He will be an early target of the police investigation.

OK, so there will be a police enquiry. But that's as far as it will go.

If it's any comfort for young Master Watts, I understand someone called Blair has an unused pot of KY Jelly that he subsequently didn't need, going cheap.

12 months ain't that bad - be out by June 2008!!!

Nice fresh-faced lad like him!

He will be popular - nice big lugs and a tight mouth.

Is Blair son of Blair going to provide one of his officers to investigate this?

I can smell the cover up from here.

Notice that Harriet Hampster said that she and her team had acted in good faith over the donations to her deputy leadership campaign.

However, we all can speak Nulabspeak now, and we would like to ask her whether she and her team acted in good faith over the donation of £5,000 to her personal account AFTER she had been elected.

Naughty,naughty Harriet!

Presumably since Watt is now facing porridge, Mendlesson is suing the Standard and Dromey is calming down Harriet, there is no one to present their 2006 accounts which have still not been filed.

Or is it Labour's customary disregard for due process?

Should give Dimbleby a good excuse to clamp down on any probing questions tonight.

Oh dear, Labour fawning for the Muslim vote while being bankrolled by the Jews and there's Tony running to the Papists..now we know why 400 years ago Parliament decided that this would be a Protestant Nation (still is due to the Bill of Rights)where the only higher power was good old fashioned money but hey the Constitution and the Law means nothing these days.

POBH at 6.32 is picking away at an aspect of the saga that needs greater scrutiny.

If you donate £5000 to Harman's campaign fund before the election takes place you are, in effect, saying "I think you'd be a good deputy leader and I'd like to improve your chances."

But if you bung in five grand TWO WEEKS AFTER THE ELECTION you are in effect saying "Now you are deputy leader of the governing party I'd like to do you a favour'.

It seems to me there is a significant difference between these two positions.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but it strikes me that Mr Abraham is a bit like Woody Allen's Zelig after watching channel four news; always around at major political and historical events: elusive, significant in his anonymity, identityless yet with multiple identities, humourous yet faintly weird. Zelig-Abraham, Abraham-Zelig; he's always smiling though, except when he's behind Blair; can't blame him for that I suppose...strange smiling faces in crowds at once irrelevant, suddenly bold and in the spotlight. Who is this man? What has he really been up to, and for what purpose? Makes you think...

Breaking news

A yougov poll in tomorrow's Telegraph has been descibed as "one of the most devastating I've ever seen" by polling expert Prof. Anthony King.

Looks like Labour's vote has gone into meltdown. Have they dropped into third place behind the Lib Dems?

Surely not fourth behind the BNP!!

They keep saying this isn't like cash for peerages.

No it's far worse, and there is a paper trail.

And instead of a few of blairs inner circle being involved, this spreads throughout the party, to a lot of people who loathe each other.

This is going to get very messy.

I suggest we all make ourselves comfortable for the next few months and enjoy the entertanment.

I bet Yates is looking forward to it.

What is it that coppers say when a villain gets off, be seeing you.

Seems he will be seeing them sooner than he thought

This is going to run and run.

Guido, you say Watts faces 12 months but surely that would depend on how many counts of said offence are considered. If they treated each of the "donors" and each of the donations as seperate offences this could mount up to make some serious jail time if he were to be proven guilty.

Knowing where the original cash comes from is what matters. Is there a MR Big and if so who is he and where did his cash come from? If it is fully taxed, legal and comes from a UK registered voter. This could all just be a boring case of rampantly corrupt sticky fingers.

However if not these are matters of national security at the highest level.

You cant donate money to any foreign countries political party. You can not accept money from a foreign power for the same very important reason. Its potential treason.

The sort of treason that certainly got Charlie 1 a much shorter hair cut then he hoped for.

In Bqanking they have Compliance dept's too. Even a cashier can go to jail for minimum of 5 years simply for just knowing money is being laundered (if it can be proved of course!).

In colleagues case he is subject to the kangaroo court of the FSA and will simply lose everything if he doesn't assume the position and box tick as required. And as we can see from this mendacious shitty junta that rules us the AML system is an expensive pointless exercise. Crooks will always get round it - for a time.
