Mendelsohn "Offered to Launder Money
for Deputy Leadership Campaign"
The London Evening Standard is reporting rumours that are flying around that the Benn deputy leadership campaign was offered and turned down illegal funding organised by Jon Mendelsohn. Which would explain why Baroness Jay is being so tight-lipped."We were approached by Mendelsohn. He rang up to say he had ways of supporting people. He said he was close to Gordon and was going to help with his leadership campaign. We discussed things but it became clear early on what he was talking about. He said there were people who want to make donations but they can't be in the public domain. He said he could facilitate moving money around through a network of other people. He said 'don't worry, there's nothing dodgy about it'. I ran a mile and said 'thanks but no thanks'. A source close to Mr Mendelsohn revealed that he had met Gareth Thomas MP, a member of Hilary Benn's campaign, for a cup of coffee and had mentioned how difficult it was to get donations because of the cash for honours affair. The source suggested that there were Labour supporters ready to offer funds, but Mr Mendelsohn categorically denies any suggestion he raised the idea of using third parties."
Looks like the Labour knives are out. If Harman is forced out of course one of the other rivals could take her place - perhaps Hilary Benn...

If this story is true then can ANYONE believe that the great bottler brown was unaware of these 'dealings'? Would such a man, brought in to assist Brown, hold back such knowledge.
But more importantly, He must have received Bottler's permission to make such an offer to Benn in the first place.
The net is being pulled a little tighter! No wonder Bottler didn't want to call in Inspector Knacker.
The only problem with Hilary Benn taking over is that he has so far prooved himself to be very competent indeed even when under pressure. Hew may just save New Labour from going on the rocks and we wouldn't want that.
Jack Dromey is in the long grass with a sharp panga?????
Bottler shouldn't have dissed Mrs Dromey at PMQ yesterday.
'people' is plural.
Let me get this straight - Brown's cheif fund raiser was actively touting round this dodgy secret donations scheme? Surely Brown knew about this, or should at least take responsibility for those acting under him?
Apparently Benn is walking round with a smug grin on his face. But why? He accepted money from Abrahams. He was prepared to accept money from agents (according to Newsnight) but didn't ONLY because he feared they may also support his rivals, NOT because it was a dodgy way of doing it.
Nothing to be smug about there. Just as culpable as the rest.
Should there be another deputy election Benn ought to have the good grace to not throw his hat into the ring. His people accepted Abrahams money, his people knew it was dodgy and we still are no closer to finding out where Abrahams got the money from in the first place.
Reading with amazement the sleaze and corruption.
Its 'Poulson ' and 'our Friends in the North 'again all over
Here in the Ukraine, it seems like Local Politics and the Mafia, are beacons of light compared to thios Shower
but I guess that they will have another bent enquiry, another whitewash
when will the revolution start?
When the public turns to jeering the bent scum that are screwing iold england
The Dodgy Donations wheeze has all the hallmarks of a Broon scam. Just like the PFI, it's a bit of Enron financial engineering which looks very clever until the wheels fall off. I would imagine there's a strong probability he not only knew, but was in fact pulling the levers.
Anyone seen Cherie 'Cheshire Cat' Booth lately? Hardly unhappy.
Hang on, I got it wrong. Benn's campaign team DID accept the first cheque through an agent. Having considered it, they returned the cheque and advised Abrahams to make it personal.
Did they cash the first cheque?
Even if they didn't, they were prepared to accept it initially knowing the circumstances.
Benn has nothing to be proud of here. The fact he returned the agent's cheque is a matter of luck rather than judgement.
The champagne is on ice. This development is the breakthrough we've been waiting for.
All we need now is for Mendelsohn to sing like a canary and the whole NuLab edifice will come tumbling down.
I am enjoying myself no end. Keep up the good work Guido!
Looks like Peter Watt has been a busy boy!!!!!
Mendelsohn AWOL....
All we need now is for Mendelsohn to sing like a canary and the whole NuLab edifice will come tumbling down.
Only snag is..... He like others conveniently on sick/holiday leave are holed up in a hotel with a minder.
No-one is willing to elaborate on this bust-up between Abrahams and Mendelsohn. I wonder if it had anything to do with Zvi Heifetz, who was investigated for money-laundering and now works for Tony Blair. Abrahams was pictured with Heifetz. It all looks somewhat dodgy.
Gordo must be due another school visit soon. In times of crisis he seeks refuge with primary school children.
It's Peter Watt that's going to start singing like a canary if things carry on like this. He isn't going to meekly accept the role of sacrificial victim that Brown and his crew are lining up for him.
And why should he? Peter was only acting under orders from higher up.
Those now desperately trying to pin all the blame on him should ponder on the fact that he can take down others all the way to the top should self-defence force him to do so.
It’s becoming perfectly plain that this is all a CIA fronted, Mossad directed, Jewish conspiracy milked by canny Scottish friends of Dorothy hoping to retire on savings invested via Northern Rock in sub-prime mortgagees stupid enough to vote for them.
I seem to remember the last lot ran to a similar formula but with Arab money, arms and oil dealers, Essex girls, adulterers, philanderers and jobs in companies they’d privatised.
Why so surprised? This is a democracy, innit?
What I want to know is who I can pay £25,000 to get a piece of the Olympic action, gain a few contracts for painting multi-coloured lines all over the roads, removing them, re-painting them, and doing the same with bumps, speed cushions, cycle paths, paving etc etc. There’s money there and I ain’t getting it. Maybe if I put my money in the Rock they’ll give me a couple of landing slots on the new third runway?
Perhaps now’s the time to invest in a Tory wannabe MP in a marginal?

You pay your money you get your choice. Pick and mix. Buy 1 get 1 free. BOGOFF. Two for the price of one.
Zvi Heifetz. There's a name to google.
WATO also reporting Mendelsohn is instructing his solicitors to gag Evening Standard.
that will be the same Hilary Benn who went out in round 3 of the deputy leadership election then?
Hardly likely to get the job is he?
Yawn. Good old Jon.
Any of us who work in Public Affairs recommend this technique to anyone client up to their neck. 'Instruct lawyers' - it sounds impressive, it suggests innocence.
You then quietly drop the whole thing when you've been found out or forced to quit.
He's running out of options.
