Harriet Harman Should Resign

- Hilary Benn turned down £5000 for his deputy leadership campaign after Margaret Jay told him the cash from Janet Kidd was on behalf of David Abrahams. He insisted the cash should come from Mr Abrahams himself.
- Gordon Brown also turned down £5000 for his campaign, so presumably his campaign team knew it was dodgy.
- Peter Watt admits he knew about the money laundering scheme on behalf of Abrahams.
When the disgraced Blunkett was caught fiddling his expenses for his mistress he paid back the money - as if that made it alright. Whenever politicians are caught breaking the law they seem to think they can buy their way out of trouble with the same money they have cheated. That is not enough.
Harman is now chairman of the Labour party, her deputy leadership election was governed by electoral law. She received illegal funding for her campaign. It is that simple. If she had any honour she would resign this afternoon.

Harman was supposed to be making a statement at 3.30 today, now cancelled apparently.
What's going on?
Harridan is not a wimp like Gordo and Hilary. She will see them go before her.
You still have to prove she knew or had reasonable suspicions it wasn't 'bona feedee' though.
An even more promising line of enquiry is why did Gordon turn down the money? Is his claim not to have been taking money from people he didn't 'know' true - or is it just a cover to avoid the inevitable questions about how much he knew about Abrahams before last week...
She was juggling too many balls. Other women will know what it's like.
At the time of her campaign, Harman claimed she had to borrow 10k from the bank to fund it (against Hain who claimed to have 77k funding). So, you would think she would have been mighty appreciative of a cheque for 5k and keen to say 'thanks' to the donor.
3.29 Ignorance is no defence though it seems to be Labour politicians favourite excuse at the moment.
next time i get a speeding ticket from one of those cameras i am going to announce a review headed by my mates, i will ensure i will slow down in future, i will put in safeguards to ensure i dont speed in the future and tell them to stick their 3 points and 60 quid fine up their arse!
one law for us, NO law for them
Anyone know why HH's press conference has been cancelled? Has she been hung out to dry?
BTW Brown was offered £25k by Abrahams.
anon 3:33
Which bank was that?
Not one set up by our friends in the North that's only running thanks to our money, I hope.
Radio 4 mentioned that the £5K was the second largest donation to her campaign.
There must be a truly monumental row going on in Downing Street & Whitehall behind closed doors about who is to blame. All the parties involved must be fighting like rats in a sack, desperate to wipe out their opponents and emerged unscathed.
Oh to be a fly on the wall. Ha ha ha.
go harry go go go
When Harman says she doesn't know what going on its all too credible.
She has no Y chromosome so should be a special case - like when she was caught speeding.
Harman is too shrewd an operator not to know where every last penny was coming from.
Her protestations doth strain the credibility, in much the same way that McBroons sphincter gets strained.
anon 3.41
Some cynic on Talksport radio just said she 'bottled out' of making a statement so maybe her arse has gone.
Oh Heaven
Oh Bliss
I Haven't had so much fun since Granny got her tits caught in the mangle.
Let it go on and on and on...
There are rumours round Westminster that Brown wants to sacrifice Harman in the desperate hope it may get him off the hook but she is clinging on with a grim determination.
Oh to be a fly on the wall in the bunker.
Brown has said he turned down the offer of funding because he did not know the person making the offer. It might be worth while checking the people who he did take money from to see if they were all known to him. If there were other unknown people on the list, it would single this particular offer out as a special case.
Would the last one to resign/be sacked please remember to turn the lights off at No. 10. Global warming an' all
Speeding fine let-offs
Grant-maintained and Grammar schools self-interest
Iraq-war flip-flop
Welfare-state non-reform

Carlsberg don't do pious, hypocritical harridans, but if they did.......
Harridan Yummy PM before the day is out?
Two points;-
Guido F Esq - "If she had any honour she would resign this afternoon."
How many times do I have to tell you, they don't resign they are dragged kicking and screaming.
They wouldn't know 'honour' if they where ran over by a doubledecker bus, with 'I am honour' written in ten foot letters on the side.
If she resigns, it will only be because she has been forced to by Gordo to save his own neck.
If that happens expect fireworks.
Penfold "Harman is too shrewd an operator"
No she isn't, she is one of the weakest, polititions I have ever seen.
Even by this showers standards.
Though if Peter Watt has broken the law, then surely so has she.
Yates of the Yard should be planning another dawn raid.
OH Happy days!!!
W.W.
des, er no, its because harperson is a particularly conniving incompetent specimen of a nulab politician, who expects us to believe that she's too dumb to read a mortgage form, but bright enough to be chairman of the party governing the country. Twat
There's rebellion on the back benches with one Labour MP just on radio 5 describing an *atmosphere of impending doom*.
Johnson, Hain, Straw, Hutton, and more all determinedly distancing themselves from the growing scandal and reluctant to state much confidence in beleaguered Brown.
Where is Dougie Chipmunkee Alexander?
Can somone please tell Her Majesty that she has an off-the-scale crap Government. She might want to consider getting herself a better one. Soon.
Though as an avid contributer to a political blog, I really should learn how to spell Politicians.
is that right?
This is what you get for a state education
W.W.
No 3.30 press conference, but perhaps a live and exclusive interview at 6pm, where St Harriet tells 'Andy' Marr she's resigning for the good of the party, to draw a line under the affair etc?
5k was a big fund contribution for Harriet. I'm guessing that she called or met Abrahams to say 'thanks'.
We've all seen Get Carter - so we know how things work up in the North East!
I hear Margaret Jay, minus her usual smug look, was last seen scuttling off to her multi-million euro bolthole in West Cork.
The rats are leaving.....
Where's Jack?
4.12
Jack, amongst others, is busy celebrating Harman's demise.
The General Secretary knew that Abrahams was funneling money via others. The Treasurer of the Party knew that Abrahams was funneling money via others.
Do they really think we're silly enough to believe that the Chairman of the Party (who is married to the Treasurer) DIDN'T know????
Pienaar just on suggesting Brown has condemned Harman through faint praise. Pienaar is in the Brown loop so I guess he's been tipped off that Harman is toast though he can't say so directly yet.
We have Laws.
As individuals we have to uphold the laws or suffer the consequences.
We do not have the right as individuals to set up reviews and the reviewer is favourable to us as individuals.
Otherwise laws are useless.
When will all these charades end.
I am 71 years of age and I have never known a political party so corrupt.
I must add that I am the eldest of 4 children my mother never worked outside the home we never got handouts my mother was a proud women. We never went into debt what we couldn't afford we did without. We were brought up to know right from wrong.
My mother always voted Tory my father always voted Labour.
If they were alive today they would despair of the present government.
Simple question for all tory muppets - was Baron Ashcroft an impermissible donor making undisclosed donations through his agent Bearwood Securities Limited?
Media reports strongly indicate that Harman is finished, that's how I'm reading it anyway.
Good bloody riddance, now who is next!!
It's all the Tories fault. Ashcroft...Major sleaze.....Aitken....brown paper envelopes.....all as bad as each other....Tory sleaze...Hamiltons....Ashcroft...mutter mutter.
DES "If you throwby scraps to the dogs they just come back for more"
They aren't throwing scraps, they are throwing big juicy steaks, that Gordon Ramsey would be proud of.
She will be lucky if she is still in a job this time tomorrow.
Another thought. If Harman goes then surely hubby would have to go as well (Jack Dromey). Can Gordon survive losing his Chair/Dep Leader, Treasurer and General Secretary within 48 hours? Perhaps that's why we're waiting for Harman? Gordon knows that if she goes he's in real trouble...
Anonymous 4:20
Simple answer: "no".
The donation broke the law so not sure how she can survive this. Resignation (or the sack) seems inevitable.
Loved the way that DES in his 4:16pm post actually used a metaphor, then lost his nerve a little bit and had to explain (probably to himself) who the 'dogs' were.
Bless.
Shakin' Stalin knew money from this Kidd woman was dodgy. Benn knew. Baroness Jay knew, too .
The little twerp who just resigned knew.
Probably the bloody cleaning lady and Alistair Darling's cat knew.
So how come Hattie Harpic accepted money "in good faith" that no one else wanted to touch?
Thick? Out of touch? Tense, nervous headache?
Even Prescott lasted longer than this before making an utter fool of himself. And for failing that badly, she should go with as much dignity as she can scrape together.
Now.
Anon 4:24pm
So why did he talk about his "own donations" in his recent Telegraph article - when he has never made a recorded donation in his own name? And where is he registered on the Electoral Register? Still sure about your answer?
DES 4:30
"Argggh, No i still have more"
More of what? On second thoughts, don't answer.
Amazing how so many people from Gordo down claimed not to know Abrahams - just read this...

Here's irony
One This Day: 27 November 1990
1990: Tories choose Major for Number 10
John Major is to be Britain's new prime minister after winning the Conservatives' leadership election.
Mr Major, 47, will visit the Queen at 1030 BST tomorrow to be formally appointed and will return to Downing Street as the youngest British leader this century.
DES this is not a misogynist witch hunt, this is called accountability. When one is caught with a property developer's metaphorical finger up one's metaphorical arse, one pays the price.
Peter Wyatt is gone, so should Harman. CCHQ will no doubt be throwing a party well into tomorrow.
It has been brought to my attention that my hands are caked in shit. This is clearly unacceptable. I was not myself aware of the problem until Sunday night just gone, when certain issues regarding toilet paper protocol, supply and distribution came to a head. I have appointed a board of enquiry into this matter, to be chaired by a retired plumber & proctologist of utmost eminence and probity, and steps will be taken to ensure that on no account will anything like this recur. I must stress that the nights are drawing in, and it's not always easy to see oneself clearly. I may have noticed my hands once or twice but I have no recollection of whether or not I mistook the shit on them for ink, or chocolate, or henna. This is not the moment for recrimination as there are cakes to be baked but I have with regret accepted the ritual slaughter by buggery of the Andrex puppy, boner fido mortis...(insane grin)...howls...
I wonder what Tony did with all that Teflon?
Cilla and I would just like everyone to keep focused on us. We have been doing some running. And we have had some very responsible and truthful, award-wining-parent friends round for dinner and prayers, but not Tapas. Or wife-swapping. And we are working on a greatest hits Christmas DVD of me and Cilla walking in and out of various churches which we are sure all our fans will love.
My brother John has been talking to his weekend neighbour Gordon and Gordon has promised that if anyone says bad things about Cilla and me then his friend Sir Ian Blair will send one of his special radio-controlled, eight-man counseling teams round to put them straight. Very straight. Horizontal.
Its great to have friends in high places. You could almost get away with murder.
Please give generously to FindGerryJockMcCannsReputation.com, or to PayGerryJockMcCannsMortgage.com until we can both get fixed up with an income from the Virgin McCann Northern Rock Money Laundering Corporation (a company funded wholly by the taxpayer in order to protect HM government from its rightful place in prison, or, in Mr Straw's case, in front of a firing squad with his friends MR Blai, Mr Campbell,Mr Hoon,Doctor Rice and her pet chimp, Dubya) with offices in Nassau, Newcastle-on-Tyne and Downing Street. Remember, if you give us your money -and you don't really have any choice- you can rest confident that you will never ever have to see it again, although, unlike little wotsername, we will not leave it lying around unattended for just anybody to pick up. That would be criminally irresponsible. Happy Christmas from New Labour. And our agent Mrs Wark. (as told to stanislav)
a dog so bayed in office 4:34pm
I have appointed a board of enquiry into this matter, to be chaired by a retired plumber & proctologist of utmost eminence and probity
stanislav?
I fear that Jack Straw will soon be supporting Harriet in much the same way that a noose supports a hanging man.
4.55 this is a job...
who else? I am sure his report would be far-reaching and thorough.
Looking at Brown today I was reminded of the immortal words of the great John Cooper Clarke - "You're like a disinfected toilet - clean round the bend."
It appears 'honest' Dave/David Abrahams/Martin aged 53/62 has been hung out to dry. Should he manage to unpeg himself I look forward to him pissing into the New Labour tent.
Incapability Brown may not recall meeting Dave Abrahams, but I bet Dave Abrahams has a perfect recollection of his meetings with Bottler Brown. Dreamer Dave should make sure he doesn't spend much time alone before he speaks to the press.
R4: "We have just heard that [Harriet Harpy] is to return the donation."
Surely Abrahams should be seeking medical help if he donated £600,000 to this shower without any quid pro quo?
To whom will she be returning the donation? Janet Kidd?
Either way, its an admission of:
a) Someone being liable for tax on unearned income
b) Breaking the law
c) Both
They havent yet spoken to the donors yet/ An interesting chat yet to be had..............
Is she 'returning'it to her husband?
Harman just contradicted herself several times throughout her statement. Dismal.
Now some Scottish Labour MP is being taken apart by Peter Allen on radio 5. Incredibly awful performance from him (didn't catch his name) Peter Allen destroyed him.
This Labour lot just get worse.
Believe me Mr. Dirty, we would much prefer Brown to be in this position, so no sexism intended - prick.
5.12 - It was the Brown tongue of last resort Nigel Griffiths MP.
He was almost in tears.
David Abrahamovitch just said that contrary to what Gay Gordo claims they are in fact, the best of chums and have had many an enjoyable rimming session together.
No doubt Darling is enjoying life at the moment...
"To whom will she be returning the donation? Janet Kidd?"
That's a good point. If I were her, I'd keep the fucking dosh, and tell David Martin-Abrahams to go fuck himself if he asks for it back. After all, it was a present wasn't it?
5.14
Nigel Griffiths eh?
Well Brown must be desperate if he has to send useless cunts like him out. Totally counterproductive. Screaming that the BBc are biased towards the Tories isn't going to do his leader much good.
Off topic slightly, looks like one of Guido's co-conspirators is returning to haunt the proceedings:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/7115174.stm
Anyone want to bid?
I wonder whether the "gifts" from Mr Abrahams to his proxies were paid from his personal taxed income or somehow washed through his businesses as expenses.
Unless he used some tax scheme, one would generally have to earn c£1.2m to leave £600k net.
Having experienced HMRC getting extremely agitated over an expense claim for less than £150, I bet the taxmen are itching to make an enquiry into his affairs....unless of course lobbing 600 big ones into the kitty buys some serious level cover.
DES - get real or get on a boat! If you want to see real hatred of women, look at what the Saudis did to a rape victim!
We merely think Harriet's a patsy. Gordon's the real cynic who doesn't mind hanging her, or anyone else he needs to, out to dry.
The constant mantra of Abraham denials is humourously biblical in its proportions. The denials might be more convincing if there weren't so many. Everyone is rushing to make sure that wherever the parcel lands, it isn't on them and poor Harriet just hasn't had the wit her colleagues such as Hilary Benn had.
The prisons would be a lot less full of prisoners if they could take advantage of the excuses that Brown and this lot have done. When was the last time a parking warden refused to issue a ticket when you offered to park right next time?
Brown can't even manage a decent script and keeps ripping cliches out of dodgy american spygate movies - "I have no recollection...."
Max Hastings said in the Mail - So what is the answer? Ask most parliamentarians of any party and they will tell you more state funding. They argue - although not in quite these terms - that because politicians cannot be trusted to behave honestly, the taxpayer must pay through the nose to keep them on the straight and narrow.
But there is a simpler - and cheaper - solution. Spending by our political parties is out of control. Between 1983 and 1997, the Labour Party's campaign expenditure rose by five times, even allowing for inflation. Tory spending went up three times.
Since then, it has continued to rocket. In the 2005 election year, our three main parties spent nearly £100 million between them. Most of this cash goes either on polling - working out what we want them to say - or advertising, persuading us that they are doing what the polls have told them we want.
Serious politicians should tell us what they really think, not what they believe we might want to hear. And if they have ideas that resonate, they will generate publicity without the need for advertising. George Osborne didn't need a poster campaign to tell people about his plans for inheritance tax this autumn.
So there should be a £50,000 cap on all donations - whether from individuals or unions - and political parties must get used to living with less money.
from another forum
Ok, Abrahams and Labour are officially in the shit. Janet Dunn, the so called donor from 2003 has denied she knew anything about the donation and that her name has been used maliciously. She has never handled anything and disputes the money passed through her bank accounts. If this is true, there is going to be trouble. The house of cards is collapsing. Is this systematic deciet from Labour and its dodgy donor?
What next?
If you are having visions of dams bursting and people drowning in gravy, what tablets should you be taking (or not, as the case may be?)
Lies will out.
Harriet's blink rate says it all.
Ho, ho, ho.
Thank you Santa.
Interesting stuff about Abrahams at Wikipedia -- he sounds pretty flamboyant:

"If you are having visions of dams bursting and people drowning in gravy, what tablets should you be taking (or not, as the case may be?)"
Do you mean to stop or continue the dreams?
Funny thing tax .... gifts to political parties are tax exempt and outside the seven year rule but gifts to individuals such as the pseudo-givers are not tax exempt if the donor dies within 7 years - hope they thought of that. Questions, questions ...
"Harriet's blink rate says it all".
She needs some botox injections above the eyes. Quickly.
If this money was "given" to a third party with instructions that it should be passed on to the Labour Party, would it not qualify as a "gift with strings", which is not tax exempt even after 7 years?
In which case it will either attract IHT or Income Tax?
"Funny thing tax .... gifts to political parties are tax exempt and outside the seven year rule but gifts to individuals such as the pseudo-givers are not tax exempt if the donor dies within 7 years - hope they thought of that. Questions, questions ..."
I guess he will be grateful to have the money back
Margaret Jay has one a Mcavity
By the time labour are electable again little millivolt will be shaving and bliar will have had his wish on the sucession.bruun will be gone by xmas hopefully and I bet camerons buying lottery tickets cos hes so lucky. the old adage about governments lose elections is happening before our eyes in full widescreen.
She will only consider going if she is arrested, and probably only resign from behind bars.
Best left in the gibbet with Gordon to swing in front of the electorate.
"Harman to return the donation".
Her application form for a bank loan will make novel reading
I look at it this way mcavity will order an "Inquiry" and put his mates in charge after a few years it will report that all is well and no one broke any laws, they crippled mr Yates of the yard investigations and they will do the same with any inquiry held over this minor problem.
Such a shame about all this breaking news, I was so looking forward to hearing more from Gordon Brown on his Brave New World - where a fully-employed and productive British workforce re-instates Great Britain back to its rightful position at the head of the economic league table of world nations, by means of honest British sweat and toil alone. I really welcome his crackdown on benefit cheats/scroungers and sincerely wish it finds the same success as the back-to-work initiatives outlined over the years in countless previous New Labour policy announcements. No Ifs no Buts. To my mind, the most impressive aspect of these forensic skill-schemes (idealogically driven by focussing an almost intense, obsessive love on the jobseeker as an individual), is how the government always manages to implement them without increasing staffing-levels - in fact, Mr Brown intends to protect the moral virtues of the public purse whilst simultaneously engaging in a drastic DWP personnel cutting exercize. I can't help but admire the man. His type are what made Britain Great - he is so politically courageous. He is, of course, backed up by those magnificent men and women who tirelessly man the jobcentres - the way these dedicated people can match even the most delinquent drug-deluded Briton to a meaningful occupation, is nothing short of a miraculous. Not to mention mysterious - I mean to say that the mystical ceremonies and sophisticated workings of the local Jobcentre are quite beyond my personal comprehension. To the untrained observer, the seemingly aimless and meanderingly complex comings-and-goings of Jobcentre administrative staff might perhaps indicate a lack of purpose and organisation - but, behind the scenes, we can rest sure in the knowledge that these departmental devotees are using their unparalleled expertise to put Britain's red nose back to the grindstone. Although I'd wager that even David Attenborough probably couldn't fathom what these Public Servants are up to most of the time.
It wasn'ae me, it wasn'ae me!!
It wasn'ae Gordo!
Latest news: it turns out that Hazel Blears and David Miliband are good pals of the seedy Mr Abrahams.

Useless Geoff Hoon being skewered by an irritated and impatient Jon Snow on Ch4.
Brown's paying the price for having nothing but no-marks in his cabinet.
Think Jack Nickolson in the film "As good as it gets" with his obsessional repetitive behaviour. Now watch Gordon Brown on the news today as he met the press. Watch his left hand. What on earth is he doing???
I lifted this off a medical site...
REPETITIVE BEHAVIOUR IN DEMENTIA
People with dementia may say things over and over again. They may also ask the same question or repeat certain actions frequently. They may become very clinging and shadow the person caring for them, even following them to the toilet. These behaviours can be very upsetting and irritating for the carer.
Possible causes
1. Physiological and medical causes
Memory loss from the dementing illness which causes the person not to remember that they have already asked that question or told that story.
Physical changes to the brain which are caused by the dementia may have damaged that part of the brain which enables the person to change to a new activity—the person appears to be 'stuck' on one activity, repeating it over and over again.
Some medication can cause side effects which result in repetitive movements or restlessness. Tranquillisers can cause the person to have repetitive movements of the mouth and tongue.
I think we should all be worried.
Geoff Hoon on channel 4: I never knew David Abrahams so I'm OK! Harman and the rest of them can go and fuck themselves!
Not very "brotherly" is it?
anon 7.17
Brown's repetitive movements, facial tics, etc seem to be a side efect of long term use of major tranquilisers/anti-psychotic drugs.
Probably largactil or something similiar.
And yes, it's worrying, particularly as he seems to be losing touch with reality more with each crisis that comes his way.
Jon Snow v G Hoon.
1st round knock out.
Oh dear oh dear A very very tetchy Jon Snow interviewing "Buff" Hoon - who has certainly made it clear - Nuthin to do with me guv period. Never heard of the bloke never met him.
No two ways its a friggin disaster - the wheels are starting to come off the Labour Party wagon big time.

It does seem odd that the Lab Party Tressureer has not made any public statement.

At least Labour have put that deranged oaf Dennis McShane back in his box today after he embarrassed them monumentally yesterday.

and before DES jumps up about murder and torture just think Iraq and rendition flights they dont go to disneyland.
ok so now we understand a little of new labours funding strategy , gordon has taken none of this particular source, so he can let harriet take the heat (whilst benn does a mandelson),
in interview you could tell harriet was somewhat alone , the tufty club having decided her fate was preferable to theres.
well if harriet goes because she is british then fine , if she stays it will because she will have wanted to dob the other criminals in.
for some time i have watched this goverment tip into arrogance , however what wasnt clear was just how they were robbing us from quite early on, the dome , certain defence contracts , PFI .
this goverment lost its way when it wanted power just for powers sake (always a false labour justification) , beurocratic over reach is the same old methods they have used before , over goverment makes them money . the party for the poor ?? my arse . they are the party for a false , bankrupt and outdated ideology , whilst houseing reprosessions climb , people struggle with debt, crime fills our streets .
the truth about new labour is they never did want to make the uk better , they just wanted to make there bank balances better and they are arrogant enough to blind the people that elected them and use parliment for the purposes of increasing there arrogance.
the red despot spotter has more , much more on just what nu labour has done, take it from me they have taken your future for there today. but i shall wait for the public to understand this one first before moving onto the others on the list. dear trolls your goverment wreaks of corruption and incompetence , but your trick of making corruption look like incompetence will soon be unmasked, your total disregard for the law is telling.
james mackouaghtys interview on R4 this morning was most telling, the commitee that no longer exists ?? shame DR cable is still studying northern rock , but as ever his persistance will have its dividends .
hulnes attempt to want state funding , whilst appealing is so full of holes , just image nick griffin being able to get state funding , oh i see then you would creat a system of eligable parties only can get funding , and who decides whose eligable????
who guards the guards , you would gag free speech again somthing which the liberals should value. state funding is bad tax payer value, but the stanislav would probebly say politics as a whole is .
thanks
red despot spotter
What's with the big shouty banner headlines?
Adam Boulton's blog refers to "lots of smoking guns around" in the Labour Party.

i am sure his minders have read this site and asked tv producers to get tighter shots of the ugly tossing cunt
There's a precedent for this. Most Americans didn't know that FDR used a wheelchair because the papers were so careful not to show it.

Just seen Brown's press conference. The left arm reaching tic is getting worse, the nails look worse and the slurp is coming back. Flawed?
There has to be something very dodgy behind the planning applications. Hazel Blears was on Radio 4 this afternoon announcing a new quango to fast track massive planning applications. Interesting timing. Eddie Mair worried her like a terrier though and she ended up sounding like a short circuiting robot.
"A prcatice that has gone on for some time". Forget Hattie and Benn. Watt and the NEC allowed this to happen throughout the Yates investigations. How arrogant. This must be a job for the DPP.
