FT Drops Northern Rock Memo Fight With Schillings

"We were looking at funding a principled legal case about news that was looking increasingly historic by the day," says Paul Murphy, the editor of the Alphaville blog. The FT reckons the revelations about the government's support for the bank are now common knowledge and events had superseded information contained in the memorandum.

The memo is hosted on Wikileaks if you are still interested in reading this bit of financial history. Schillings wrote to Guido arguing that he was breaching the High Court Order by linking to it and would suffer all manner of comeback unless he gave undertakings and removed all links etc. Guido's legal people told Schillings last Friday to serve the Order properly or get stuffed. Haven't heard anything from Schillings since - so that's them stuffed.

If I remember correctly, the Tories were in favour of the bailout of Northern Rock.

Then when the going gets tough, the Tories get opportunistic.

Not fit for government.

Labour are a complete car crash of a 'government'.

The longer Brown leaves the next election date, the larger the Tory majority as the next Government.

bhowaggree, I'm amazed that you have come out from under your stone today. I can only assume you are suffering fro shell shock after Balck monday, then Black Tuesday. Go home, your mother is waiting...but don't forget to ask her to check your piggy bank.

bhowagree - can't quite recall it myself. However, don't see much wrong in encouraging your opponent to drink from a potentially poisoned chalice. If it turns out OK, you can claim kudos, but with this government the calculation would be that they'll cock it up.

And lo, it came to pass....

Bhowagree is merely quoting Alastair Darling, who made the same false assertion on the Today progamme this morning during a love-fest with James Naughtie. Needless to say, The Most Boring And Ponderous Interviewer In The History Of Broadcasting was too busy talking to check Darling's statement, so the notion that 'the Tories approved the bail-out' has now become a typical nuLab meme slyly injected by the BBC into the national consciousness. Orwell thou shouldst be living at this hour - England hath need of thee.

It strikes me that ever since the business over Craig Murray's blog, the slug-like Alisher Usmanov and the cowardly Fasthosts that Schillings now seem to be the self-appointed torch-bearer of internet morality. At least you, for one, stood up to this company and told them where to get off. Well done.

"Bhowaggree" (or "Bhownaggree", the more usual spelling) is/was Steve Hilton, pulling many legs at once.

Surely there are 20,000,000 private sector workers (obviously less all the quangoes) and that means it's £1,250 each.

You can't include public sector workers.

Happy 2008 tax bill all those in the UK.

The BBC with its Labour and Liberal Parties made a perfect opposition against the governing Party from 79-97.

The BBC with its Labour and Liberal Parties has made a perfect opposition to the main opposition Party from 97 onwards.

The BBC is the MAIN avoidable reason why this country now stinks more then a South American Fascist dictatorship, with a urgent, seriously psychotic, self inflicted, self destructive death wish.

Like to believe it or not. The BBC is all the Third Reich's bunch of compulsive con men were, in colour, all over the internet, far better funded, and 62 years more experienced.

But far far worse then that, it is broadcasting its highly dangerous New National Socialist divide and ruling class carry on ruling propaganda all over the civilized and not so civilized world. In may I say over 100 non English languages?

Just a point but, Northern Rock, a Newcastle based company,Child Benefit Centre in Wahington, Tyne & Wear (about5-6 miles from N'cle).
I suggest we re-draw the border with Scotland upon dis-union. We keep our oil & they get the Geordies (fat-necked f***wits). That'll teach 'em.

£24,000,000,000 seems a good enough bribe to save 6,000 labour voters job's.

How many Labour M.P.s would be sweating over their seats if Darling hadn't baled Northern Rock out?

9.43....

.... and the BBC are about to repatriate half its 'workers' to their spiritual home in Madchester.

The Humber used to be a self-evident frontier between civilisation and barbary - perhaps that's where we should draw the line?

Or maybe the M25? Or the North Circular Road?
