Tory Poster Blunder Commits Party to Tear Up EU Treaty

On the tight-rope issue that is the EU treaty, the Tories are campaigning hard for a referendum, which Gordon will not concede. What Cameron has refused so far to concede to his own right-wing is a retrospective referendum should they be in power in 2010 - two years after the treaty will have been confirmed by Parliament.

Hague has been firmly evasive on this point, Tory EU-headbangers have also been, well, as headbanging as always on the same point. Tomorrow's new "CANCELLED" poster from the Tories has now muddied the waters. As soon as it appeared on ConservativeHome, UKIP supporting Chad Noble spotted that the poster implies "A vote on the European Constitution" is "now delayed until the election of a Conservative government".The Lobby are lined up to hear a speech from Cameron tomorrow on his "vision", what is the betting that they will be asking him about this commitment? It is an issue the Brownies have deliberately been trying to stoke up in the press to cause trouble and division with the Tory ranks. Somebody at CCHQ is going to get a bollocking tomorrow...

UPDATE :
The Devil has taken a more detailed look at the Tory (non)commitments overnight. Are they meaningful? He thinks not.

Frankly, I was more aghast at Broon's assumption that he would ever be invited on to the Simpsons. Presumably they were planning to give him a guest spot on the Hallowe'en edition.....

No one could reasonably construe the poster as indicating that a retrospective vote would be held on the European Constitution once ratified, let alone committing to that. But then there is no such thing as "the European Constitution" anyway.

Newsnight reveals widespread postal vote corruption by the Labour Party is continuing in Birmingham two years after a judge described Labour's election fraud as being like a banana republic.

So, Cameron's committed to eu constitution referendum. Good. And about time too.

I was beginning to think it didn't matter to his conservative party..

So in the am Cameron will call in the lawyers and get it changed to well erm,if,but, when, maybe,I think and will try and squirm out of it,hell will freeze over before I vote Conservative if he does.

thats done it Nick pearce now head of nu liebour policy , when working for IPPR , did a nice little report on downgrading christmas (go to daily mail). amongst other things there will be child birth cermonies ,and a more general festival of light.

so now you cant even celebrate christmas properly.

it should cause in an increase in SAD disorder , bigger NHS cost and a downt turn in retail just when we need it .

just to show how wrong they have got this , i know a moderate lib dem and he was fuming, he reckons they have well and truly lost it , signs of madness are emerging.

either nu liebour are taking the piss , or just bonkers. i hope the home office does a blog on it. no connection with blears £70 million muslim youth and Iman british output then (and they wont stop using arabic as its the language that is holy to the muslims).

fuck me theyve gone nuts , gordons creating somthing near to partition. what a wonk goverment theres bad, theres even icompetant but ruining the country!! , hes wiping nu liebour off the map.

Not another case of Birmingham's "Wintervale Festival" instead of Christmas ? - that lasted all of one year before the "loonies" who suggested it got the message and quietly re-instated Christmas. This report is a load of bilge too and will go the same way. It's just the Daily Mail having a wind up!

I'm with you on that...

But it's the REFORM treaty not the Constitution! they will have the same effect, but one is a Constitution, the other is a BaU Treaty, like the last five we had no rederenda on.

So the Tories can promise a referendum on the Constitutional Treaty - if it ever comes back.

Not so.

Writing in The Sun on 26th. September 2007 mr. Cameron said:

Today, I will give this cast-iron guarantee: If I become PM a Conservative government will hold a referendum on any EU treaty that emerges from these negotiations.

No treaty should be ratified without consulting the British people in a referendum.

That seems clear enough, does it not?

Mr Huntsman - it does indeed seem clear enough - in fact as clear as Nu-Liebour's promise to give one.
Let's hope Dave has some honour, a rare thing amongst pols of all stripes.

What do they mean when they say they will 'abolish Stamp Duty for 9/10 of first-time buyers', a 90% reduction or a means test for such buyers?

'Teaching by ability and more discipline in schools' - Tasers in the classroom and back to 'stupid children get to stack shelves in Tesco' education?

Could ariston but this is such boring stuff now and its just so goddamned predictable. Same old gibberish dusted off and repackaged by the same old, sad and tired CCHQ people who really need to get out more.

do you think stupid children stacking shelves stacking shelves is preferable to stupid children killing other stupid children with guns.

Shit for brains - there are more than three political parties.

... fascinating how UKIP have got it right and all the others wrong...

I mean if Merkel can say 'Nein' to the EU over speed limits on their autobahns whilst our government bends over backwards to implement every last little damn (German inspired)EU wheeze, how else can one vote but UKIP?

Cameron is wriggling too much on this call for a referendum - I don't think he really wants it.

I wish you would not call Brown's followers Brownites or Brownies. They should be called Gofers - Gordon's Gofers.
