Betfair have opened up a market on the LibDem Leadership -
Clegg is hot favourite at less than evens.
Huhne is 13/5
Steve Webb is 15/1
Ed Davey is 36/1
Charles Kennedy is 40/1
Julia Goldsworthy is 40/1
Vince Cable is 50/1
Cable's price seems to have some value here as an outsider. Guido has put a fiver on him as a trading bet.
Incidentally, Guido covered all his "Tories to be the biggest party" bets at a profit last night. If Clegg wins he may enjoy a honeymoon at Cameron's expense...

all well and good, but what are Lembit Opik's odds Guido???
Lembit is 65/1
So what are the odds on Mark Oaten then?
I think he should be allowed to make a fist of it.
Mark Oaten?
Surely the dream ticket would be stanislav for leader and Lembit Opik for deputy. Can it not be arranged?
Guido - Is there any betting yet as to when the Millibands and others will do the same to Gordon?
Gordon is just going to look OLD by the time of the next election.
Guido
And Normski Bakers odds?
I am very annoyed that I was not asked to make the announcement to the Nation.
I wouldn't fancy having the Walking Anagram on my team.
Remember Kennedy?
Remember Oaten?
Remember Sian??!!
Ed Davey is an even bigger porker than chubby Brown.
The Liberals should do two things.
1) Dump the Democrat bit
2) Elect Clegg as leader.
If they did that, porker Brown and Call Me Dave would have problems but nothing they couldn't overcome.
The REAL turnaround in British politics would come about if Top Totty Julia Goldsworthy took the Liberal reign and presented the UK public with a REAL third way.
Age should not be the issue, but the physical and mental health of any leader would be more significant. Part of the problem is the secrecy which surrounds politicians' general health. How long did it taken the Limp Dems to admit that CK had a major drinking problem, and how long did the party keep it quite from the general public?
Just because a politician is photogenic doesn't mean that they are going to be able to act decisively or astutely.
Guido, you and Praguetory must be rubbing your hands in glee. [PT got 70/1 that only one of the (then) 3 main party leaders would be in place to fight the next election].
You must be hoping Cameron doesn't walk under a bus. I give Brown till spring, latest, before a putsch.

That I believe is one side of their dilemma. However if they do force him out then they need to do it quickly, to have time to settle in. Even so, with both Labour and Lib Dem having a coup, the Conservatives would look the only stable party for government.
Of course Gordon's current slump in the polls is merely the standard post-honeymoon slump. Depending on the availability of international crises, he may recover.
All this lib Dem stuff is all very well, but can't we get back to slating Brown?
When Gordon disappears it is to his room in the attic where he sits and plots revenge aginst all who insult him (He had to promise his wife separate rooms before she'd marry him).
If we stop dising him he may come back out to haunt us
The view from Tuscany this evening is that Herr Guido should offer a large and fragrant olive branch to Gordon asap.
For exactly the same reasons that Ming was luuurved by Lab and Tory alike. In the last 48 hours of his political life, anyway.
For God's sake, Guido, who cares? This is Ruling Class trivia. When are you going to focus on the real, all-encompassing corruption in this country - Common Purpose.
My money is on the one that can come up with enough funny hand shakes and gestures, while talking in slightly strange sentences that obviously mean at lot to some people but mean bugger all to the rest of us.
Just like all top politicians lawyers barristers bankers civil-servants BBC employees and many others do constantly.
It is So obvious Julia Goldsworthy should be the new leader.
And it is So obvious that the Lib/Dems can not see the obvious in front of their faces.
40-1 against Kennedy has got to be a value bet. If I were Charlie I'd bet the farm, go on the wagon for a month and clean up.
I don't believe this question has been asked since 1922 but...
...just what is the point of the Liberals?
The point of the Liberals is to garner the "undecided" vote.
On the way home from Bath flicked through a couple of papers, the Times and Evening Standard. I'm sorry that I can remember which paper it was in, but one of the journos had done a bit of a survey on the street. He had a great deal of difficulty finding anyone who could recognise the key candidates.
Some did recognise Chris Whoon ? - but then went on to give his name as Nick Clegg.
Despite Lembit's many failings, if he could be persuaded to give up all this 'Cheeky Girl' nonsense [rather unlikely I know], he does at least have name recognition for the man in the street / on the Clapham omnibus, which surely must be essential for any kind of real chance at maintaining their level of support at 62 MPs.
Who are these people?
Thomas Gordon earlier enquired about Normsk1 Baker's odds. The limp Dems may be odd but not that odd!
Who said Oaten was fisting it?
Who are the "LibDem"? Never heard of them. Are they like the Jedi or the Klingons?
I am completely bored by the Lib dem elections. Haven't they just had one?
Why don't they just agree to pass the leadership on every three months, now there's democratic!
