Last Man Standing

With Ming now facing the guillotine and Brown severely battered it is interesting to check what the bookies have done. The odds on Cameron being the only one of the three leading his party into the next election have been slashed from 25/1 to 6/1. Punters now think there is a good chance that both Ming and Brown will not lead their parties into the next general election.

The punters also reckon May 2009 is the favourite election date at 5/4 on. The most dramatic change is in the biggest party prices. Remember Guido's crazy bet last month? Labour are 10/11 on and the Tories are neck and neck at 11/10 - in from 3/1. Lovely jubbly...

On 4th October I got on the Cameron bet at 70 to 1. I think that 6 to 1 shot will continue to tighten though.

I suspect Clarke will be content with a large double helping of 'revenge, a dish best eaten cold.'

Anyone know when the next lot of opinion polls are out?

Oi Guido,

Brown will do a Major and stay in situ (biting his nails) 'till May 2010.

Labour's stuck with Brown until he loses the election whenever he calls it. They had their chance in June and "bottled" it just like Gordon

Guido, what makes you think the Lib Dem's latest decapitation strategy will be as clean as guillotining? I think it will probably bear more resemblance to the beheading of the Duke of Monmouth who IIRC had his head carved off by a partially blunt hunting knife principally because the executioner was so inept he couldn't hit the neck with an axe!

I'll go with young James GF.

The 'party' are still fighting the Lib/SDP game from the eighties-except they are called the Orange Book & Beveridge (Ginger) Group.

Watch out for moves from Baker,if he resigns from the coal face 'to write a book' then its game on-I think he is the man behind the Oaten story.

I gather the EU fat-cat Barosso has been 'economical with the truth' about the Constitution to prop up his mate Gordo.

Don't they all stink.

Another two or three PMQs like the last one and Brown will likely be sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Sad, but predictable. Any man in his late fifties who bites his nails, picks his nose and marries as a career move, is surely too insecure to run a whelk stall.
He's Prime Minister?
Oh my God!

Why else would labour pour in £170 million unless one of theirs will benefit.

Every time I see Gordon Brown I now see Mugabe. They are spitting images. That's why Straw(I think it was Straw) shook Mugabe's hand. In the twilight they are both Brown. In the spotlight they are both maniacal despots

I'd say it's got to be worth a few quid wagering that the next general election will be brought about by a VONC, at this rate. Brown just doesn't display any leadership skills at all, he looks uncomfortable, indecisive, anxious. God help the country if a real crisis develops.

Gordo the fucktrumpet will do what he always has done - he'll go running off and hide in his hidey hole, munching his fingernails and picking his nose.

Daffy fucking Duck has got more leadership skills than that Cyclopian twitching fucking commie cunt.

Sometimes you just have to admire the sheer cheekiness of the Eastern Europeans, taking advantage of the simmering uncertainty in the business world about Darling's (or rather the organ grinder Brown) pre-budget report.

In the business section of the Telegraph today I see a prominent advert, from the government of Macedonia.

"Invest in Macedonia" is the headline. And here's the following benefits:

1.No corporation tax for 10 years, 10% thereafter

2. 5% personal income tax for 5 years, 10% thereafter

3. No VAT and customs duties for export production.

4. Free connection to piped natural gas, electricity , water and sewage

5. Incentives for training costs. Up to 500,000 euro for building cost

6. Fast company registration - 4 hours

7. Economic stability - inflation rate below 2% over the past 5 years.

That is the sort of thing the UK is competing against, and Brown & co. simply do not have a clue.

I think Gordon's real name is Ozymandias (as in the poem by Shelley):

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: `Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear --
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.'

further note- in the Macedonia advert the footnotes say that the corp tax is 12% in 2007.

it's going DOWN to 10% in 2008. obviously in competition with the flat-tax Bulgarians who are introducing a 10 per cent rate in 2008.

Yes, low wage rates in the Eastern Bloc are a factor in investment decisions - but with such low tax regimes (and simple , as they are flat-tax), i would expect those investments to stay put as wage levels rise through prosperity.

Meanwhile, Brownstuff gives us no answer to such competition. Instead of encouraging the development of a native hi-tech industry powered by (British) open source, we get HMG buying Microsoft by the buckletload and wasteing billions in the process.

One thing to consider for your readers Guido - how come there isn't a single BRITISH Linux distro? Mandriva - thats French. Suse - German (bought out by American Novell). Ubuntu -located in London, but its founder is South African, and the distro is mostly American. One Laptop Per Child - that's MIT in America.

I could go on and on. Even one of our native hackers, Alan Cox, from Wales, who is number 2 to the big Linux guru Linus Torvalds, is currently working for RedHat - an American company.

Vision? I dont such any fucking "vision".

John Trenchard said...

errgh . typo. "i dont see any..."

Tom Tyler said...

Brownbadger, you're essentially right about Brown = Mugabe. Both are bitter, envious, twisted socialists. Just as Mugabe's policies towards his own country, far from being "mistaken" or "misconstrued", are deliberately aimed at destroying Zimbabwe to the point that nothing will be left of it, so Brown's "vision" for Britain is exactly the same, and he knows it and approves of it. Britain will inevitably be "Zimbabwe meets Somalia" in 25 years' time, if the likes of Brown are allowed to continue governing us.
Up with this we must not put!
