Media First, House Second

Even Nick Robinson is taking the piss out of the Bottler-in-Chief. He is asking readers of his blog for suggestions as to what he should ask Gordon at today's press conference. He also explains why old Brown pants would rather face the press pack than the opposition.
The truth is that he would far rather do this at a news conference than in the bear-pit of Parliament or a round with the media's toughest interviewers. It isn't that difficult when you get to choose the questions (allowing you to say "the lady at the back with the headscarf" if the going gets tough and you fancy a detour into the Middle East) and you disallow follow-ups and when you stand up in the state rooms of Downing Street looking prime ministerial.
Is that "toughest interviewers" jibe a dig at Marr? Apparently Robbo only found out about the Marr audience with Gordon second hand. Brave Brown is not coming to the House first today (has he forgotten about "the new politics") he is going to face the Lobby first. Revealing isn't it that he would rather face the likes of Andrew Marr than MPs. Incidentally, Robbo asking his blog readers for help? He'll be offering them T-shirts next...

Gordon Brown, getting on with the business of running (away from) the country.

Seeing as how I pay smirking Robinson’ s salary, expenses and pension I would be grateful if he, instead of panting and flirting, asked the prime minister:

Are you now or have you ever whilst in office, suffered any psychological or emotional disorder which has resulted in you taking hugely important decisions whilst under the influence of prescribed drugs ?

Why does the British government interfere in the jurisdiction of another European criminal justice system and why are foreign office resources spent so lavishly on two people suspected of grave offences and who are known to your own close family ?

Are you now or have you ever been a Freemason ?

When your dead father speaks in your head, does he mention the concept of shame, or is the word not in the Presbyterian vocabulary ?

Prime Minister.

Have you had a message of support from the Blairs?

"Prime Minister, why are you wearing brown trousers today?"

Gordon Brown has no mandate. He never had a mandate to become Prime Minister, and now, bottling the chance to obtain that mandate, merely confirms what was always true. He has no mandate.

His reason for calling off the election that he definitely pursued is apparently that he wants the people of Britain more time to experience his vision! More time? We have been experiencing Gordon Brown’s vision for the past 10 years. Whilst Blair was prancing round like a pop star it was Brown who was setting the domestic agenda. He has had 10 years. The voter has had more than sufficient time to decide whether or not they like Gordon Brown’s vision.

The cry now is that the British people have seen how competently Gordon Brown has handled each of the crises of foot and mouth, flooding, and terrorism that occurred in the early days of his premiership. Did he handle them, or was it his advisors who handled them. If it was his advisors, then surely they should get the credit. But no, of course not. He chose his advisors and therefore he should get the acclaim.

This weekend the prevailing view is one of cowardice. Of treating the British people as fools. Fools who will believe anything fed to them, whether it is manipulating the strategic deployment of our troops in Iraq, or merely re-opening a hospital previously opened by some lesser dignitary for a photo shoot opportunity.

The defence we hear against the charge of political cowardliness is that the idea to prepare for an election was promulgated by those very same advisors, only now they are being described as inexperienced ministers in senior positions. No blame should attach to Gordon Brown, who appointed those ministers, for the fact that they were out of control. He is after all, by popular acclaim, the extremely competent prime minister who resolved the three crises of foot and mouth, flooding, and terrorism.

Though that is what they wish us to believe, the more common belief is surely that our Prime Minister has in some way been found wanting. Found wanting in the ability to control the exuberance of his young inexperienced but influential ministers, found wanting in his leadership abilities, found wanting in his character. His personality defects deserve some sympathy for he ‘is what he is’, he was born with that brooding morose personality that has overshadowed Blair’s government for the past decade. Unfortunately for the Labour Party and the British electorate as a whole, we now have two more years of a government run by a man not fit to be Prime Minister of this, or any other country.

I have seen his vision. It is not for me, and I suspect I am not alone.

Ah, the "suck it and see" approach... so why doesn't that approach apply to Wavy Davey? or even Ming the Merciless? Or perhaps a three year trial period of the BNP? How about 3 years of the SNP to see how we like an independent England? or 3 years of the UKIP to see how we like being out of the EU? Perhaps even three years of some old bloke in Oldham that doesn't want his local hospital to close?

We don't want three years of someone that was never selected to do this job by any members of his own party, let alone the general public. Tell the fat fucker to fuck off back to Fife. He's a sinister sleaze bag of the very worst kind and he's making us all sick.

Prime Minister ... After 'Black Wednesday' may we now add 'Yellow Saturday' and 'Brown Sunday' to the political week? Or should it be the other way round?"

Does my old heart good to see the shitstorm whirlwind blowing in force 10 for the nulab boys, now that’s what I call spin.

On a serious note though how can a man with vision allow himself to be suckered into this situation?

I suspect the deadwood has been obscuring the trees I have a vision too and it looks like the axe may soon swing at nulab HQ.

actually, Blue + Yellow = Green.

happily for your metaphor, however, he is leader of he Labour (red*) party, and

Red + Yellow + Blue definitely = Brown

* yes, I know, but work with me here

I too have a vision.

I see Gordon increasing the inheritance tax threshold just sufficiently to take the sting out of the Tory promise. He can then say the difference between his and the Tory threshold is that the higher Tory threshold will only benefit the rich.

He will pay for this increase by slapping an additional tax on the working man, for where else can he go ?

Robinson was obviously at a different conference:

"Many voters may welcome [Brown's] candour and consider this story at an end."

I have recently become aware of biassed BBC blogspot.

I have, however, been aware that the BBC is the most corrupt & nepatistic organisation in the UK for some years.

I am now of a mind to not purchase the license when it needs renewing in two weeks.

If we all refused to pay the TV tax until the BBC underwent a mega cull we could change things.

Marr & Robinson are right up Browns arse - it is as if the BBc has forgotten that it is the "National Broadcaster" & not the "State Broadcaster".

As meaninglessly equivocal as ever. Brave stuff Nick.

What "candour" Mr. Robinson? Taken leave of your senses have you? This is a "watershed" as Adam Boulton put it today.
Nick risks, however the charge of being a "crawler " joining the one that he is a "poodle".

Brown the 'master' of spin, the bully, the manipulator has been humiliated by his enemies of choice, who he despises from the very bottom if his heart, the Conservatives.

After ten years of 'winning' the media game, Brown is totally devastated. He will not get over this. He will be a longterm sulk now as was Edward Heath. Bullies can cope with anything other than facing the humiliation they like to inflict on others.

Brown is done. He won't recover. He can hide but he cannot run - literally. No one will trust a word he says (funny wasn't that his phrase?)

Brown Splatterday will be remembered for decades to come. For some messy pictures click on my blog.

Anonymous, 2:51, have a look at this:

bbctvlicence.com

if you want to stop paying your telly tax. It's quite easy to do, and Crapita (t/a TV Licensing) aren't up to the job.

In fact an estimated 20% of households are not licensed.

No, the average fine is £130, but if you have an IQ greater than 43 the PSPs are easily outwitted.

Guido,

Its a given that the BBC political department spins for Labour, but surely there is some officila body that we can comlain to. How can we unite to get it investigated?

45govt said...

Dennis' plan is the right one. If significant numbers start refusing to pay the BBC extortion, it will snowball, and they won't be able to recover from it. The public won't wesr mass lockings -up.
Stick it up 'em.
