Doh! A Green Tax that Businesses Won't Have to Pay

Guido intended to read the 547 page Quality of Life Report to extract and highlight some of the expected more bonkers policy suggestions. Fortunately others are doing it for him.

Bonkers idea #3 : Over at the Coffee House Fraser Nelson has spotted this corker, applying VAT to short-haul flights. "Has it occurred to either of them that VAT is reclaimed by anyone on business trips, so this would only hit the small people on their holidays?"

So business travellers won't have to pay the tax...

So why not just change the law so this exemption doesn't apply to flights?

So you can't accuse the policy of being 'anti-business', which I suspect is why you are so pissed off - Zac has already shot your fox here !

They might have thought it through for 15 seconds and made it like Insurance Prmeium tax, which can't be recoverable, call it something catchy, like S.H.I.T. - Short Haul flIght Tax

In fact, small businesses who are not VAT registered (those with a turnover of less than £50k) will also be hit. Nice.

and that if we dont have enough water to water the crops they will die.

which bit of climate change is beyond you, the simple stuff or the complex. take a look at whats changing , what species are going , why the fish stocks have gone (and its not completely overfishing).

Pig Farmer you numpty,

It's not necessarily climate change we disagree with, though the latest satellite data suggests even this is bollocks.

What we certainly disagree with is the idea that climate change is definitely happening, that it is caused by humans, and that it can be stopped by taxing people who drive cars and go on holiday into penury.

Hopefully you can understand that, but if not you can always go back to your pigs. What degree do you need to farm pigs by the way?

And another bonkers idea is paying VAT on car parking at work - this will not hit the civil servants in Admiralty Arch (Ministries non VAT-able) nor will it hit public servants/Beeb bosses in general (it'll just go through a funny-money account). It will hit private industry, but since the car-pool elite are the bosses, it'll just get paid and will be added to 'labour costs' or 'director payments' and hit the shareholders' pension funds as yet another 'charge'.
Or maybe they'll all start hopping on the bus? I don't think so.
Oh, and MPs and government ministers are also going to pay to park, aren't they? Aren't they??

I bet Ol' Jimmy is grinning away down there.
An Italo-anagram comes to mind:
VADE, DAVE!

hi astro turf lawnmower
you numpty , if you think its bollocks, that its mans effects, fine but there still that question of resource useage , all those dying eco systems , because of all the stuff weve chucked out onto the land and sea . all the poisens and toxins.
so even if you think global warming is bollocks do you think the rest of it and if so is zac and gummers report any good then? .

as for what education you need to be a pig farmer, you mean you dont know ?, I would say a fairly decent one.

It's not an exemption, it's the core of VAT. You levy output tax on your sales, but you take off the input tax on your purchases. The difference goes to HMR&C, unless you are running a carousel scam, in which case it doesn't.
