Brown's Vanity Publishing

Pandora confirms what we already knew, Brown's Courage book was vanity publishing. Brown backing billionaire Lord Paul has bought six thousand copies to distribute to schools. That is twice as many as have sold nationally.

What did the kids do to deserve this treatment?

It feels a bit sinister, distributing books by the PM to schools. You can image the likes of Stalin or Mao probably sent an opus or two to the kids.

Surely it would only be vanity publishing if he'd written the book?

As we know he didn't, it's presumably just sycophancy.

The kids' enormous gratitude at this largesse explains why Brown likes to spend all his photo-ops in their grateful presence.

Surely it should be categorised as child abused

The reviewer in The Economist noted that not one of the portaits was of a noted anti-communist, or anti-socialist.

But was this tome published on soft, perforated, absorbent paper?

Imagine the fuss there would have been if Anthony Seldon's book on Blair had been 'distributed' to all secondary schools, or if the thoughts of Chairman Alistair had hit the same library shelves.

It's just as well the children in state schools nowadays can't read.

I well remember the stink at my alma mater when the librarian discovered a rasher of bacon in use as a bookmark in a volume of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Pre-DNA analysis, of course; the culprit could not be found. Let's hope the recipients of the Thoughts of Chairman Broon will be equally irreverent.

Brown is not exactly an inspiring speaker so I have no doubt that his book will be painful to read.

Brown likes endless photo-ops with boys in school gyms for more obvious and base reasons.

Surely there is something ethically wrong with a serving senior politician to allow his vanity published book to be distributed by a private individual to schools?

Mind you this is Labour, and no one can accuse them of being ethical.

Mind you, if the Tories don't say anything why should any other fucker?

I vaguely recall that when some philanthropist or other tried to distribute free Everyman copies of classic fiction to UK schools, many schools refused to take them.
Will they feel similarly empowered to refuse this important contribution to our changing nation?

You can bet this will shortly be part of the National Curriculum - Brown Studies, perhaps.

Apart from penning such a mediocre 'book', maybe Brown had better concentrate on other things, such as the collapsing economy, wars overseas and the ever encroaching EU.

With the damaging revelations being brought to light by this blog. The thoughtful well crafted comments by posters of quality. I merely have to mention such luminaries as the morbidly obese "Hitch" and the Joan of Arc of blogging "Shotgun", as examples of excellence to make the point. Blogging has taken one more giant step forward. Only yesterday we had the sensational story of "Darling's Pussy" and today it is followed by the incredible "Gordon wrote a book " scoop. I am lost in admiration for you all, keep up the good work.

What a waste of trees this is, coming from a supposedly green PM.

Alistair Campbell hasn't said...

Did Broon actually write the book, given that he was running the economy into the ground, or was he helped by a 'researcher'?

Brothers and sisters, is there no limit to Comrade McStalin Broon's talents? [applause, all stand, ovation, applause].

Classis Brown. If you don't possess courage or the ability to inspire heroic deeds then write a book on those that do in the hope that some of their glory will rub off on your political ambitions.
Now just remind me how courageous and heroic it was to not even bother to spend enough on the armed forces whilst chancellor, I think the answer is in the fact that he could not even appoint a full time Minister of Defence as PM.

So Gordo gets the royalties and doesn't have to declare the "donation". A nice piece of fiddling, all perfectly legal of course.

Isn't that a bit sinister, distributing it to schools?

On the subject of Clan Brown and Co. I noticed Julia Hobsbawm of 'Editorial Intelligence' making an appearance on News 24 on Sunday 9th, making biased comment on events in Portugal. The interesting part was her star billing as 'Head of Media Monitoring and Analysis' - I thought this was Clarence Mitchells job? What is going on here, and why are any of these people involved in this case anyway?

Who put out a press release about this? That's the interesting story, Guido - can you tell us? It was in The Times too, you see, so someone was publicising.

Let's make sure that, whe the copies arrive from the Soviet in to the school, we COMMAND all our children to read it.

That will be 100% insurance that they will not, as this is the actual desired outcome.

Oh, it's not me, it's Mike the pointless troll. His idea of being original is to steal someone else's handle and use it to abuse people in the hope of starting a fight.

Dashit! Penfold beat me to the punch. 6000 books - what's the rate for author's royalties nowadays? Whatever, it's a nice little bit of backsheesh heading toward The Greasy One's back pocket.

I wonder if we'll see this Lord Paul character being given a nice little sinecure anytime soon? There's bound to be some quango or other needing a body to sit on its board, do nothing twice a month and collect a few grand for its troubles.

Mountjoy said...

No, the kids do not deserve this treatment. There should be a law against forcing children to read "Courage".

Brown's Courage book was vanity publishing.

As opposed to the Little/Big Books of New Labour Sleaze, yes? What were they exactly?

DENNIS LEGGE!
great to see you posting again.
hope that all those unfortunate incidents such as me shooting at you, electrocuting your cock and making you homeless are forgotten and forgiven.
The fact that you tried to burn myself and that nice Mr Drew to death is history.

So – is this why Balls’ ‘appiness classes are to be introduced? [Until now, could not understand why they (‘appy classes) are to be introduced - surely every kid in the paradise that is NooLayba Britain should, by definition, be ‘appy already?]

I've no idea what you're on about. You're delusional. Too much wank, as the Italian foreman said, at the asbestos factory where I had a holiday job, when one of the fellows couldn't lift a pile of corrugated sheeting.

No doubt the next edition of the Great Leader's Courage will include a short autobiographical addendum.

After all, he had the courage to face up to the Americans and scuttle from Basra. And the courage to face up to the Mafia and kill the supercasino. It's amazing he's still alive (if he is).

I wonder if Gordon believes that it is "courageous" to clear off out of the country every time something goes wrong for your leader?

Wonder who he'll hide behind now?

Gordon does a lot of "scuttling", it's what he's good at.

Perhaps his next tome for Schools could be A GUIDE OF BASIC MANNERS, as Ive just watched the Start of the England match and one of the black players, I think it was Sean Wright Phillips was standing there Chewing something with his jaw nearly hitting the floor while the rest of hist team mates were singing God Save The Queen. Did anyone else notice, unless it was the worst attempt of a miming words you dont now EVER?

Unbeleivable. Russia is building the father of bombs, testing out air space and we have England players that cant even behave for a couple of minute. This country really is going down the pan.

If they print it on rizla paper the kids might show an interest or make the jacket mirror like so the teachers can cut their ...er breaktimes.

Fuck it!
Another two or three weeks of the Great leader telling us its all under control and the emergency services are doing a wonderful job.
Meanwhile his stooges in the press, led by Philip Webster in The Times, will berate David Cameron for leaving a gate open on a farm in Chipping Camden.

Just who makes these up? "Higher taxes on short haul flights and "gas guzzling" cars are recommended by the Tories' policy review group".
If increased taxes, which results in higher petrol costs, really worked, then why have we not seen any decrease in car use in the last 3 years when fuel prices have increased by 3 billion % (ok slight exageration but it feels like it).

this is o so reminsicent of the old book-laundering scams invented by Yeltsin's cronies in 1990s Russia. I wonder if it will all be nicely registered in the Register of Members' Interests? At 15% royalties it comes to around 15,000, not a fortune but a nice earner if you're notoriously thrifty. If the advance was large, or the royalties above average, then Bloomsbury are also effectively making an undeclared donation. they've already lost a fortune on Blunkett - one wonders what they are getting out of these loss-making books from New Labour?

"Did Broon actually write the book, given that he was running the economy into the ground, or was he helped by a 'researcher'?"

In the Tom Bower biography he mentions that Brown was writing a book on courage back in the 90s but at the time Bower's biography went to press he reckoned it had been shelved.

He did write it I think.

Lord Voldermort said...

I wonder if Bloomsbury took this non-seller on as a favour to their most successful author?

She is supposedly a good friend of Gordon's.
