Blair Trousers First £100,000
Guido hears that Blair's package for his UN-sponsored Middle East Peace Mission is £100,000-a-year, plus office and travel expenses.
Didn't Jimmy Carter have this exact same job a decade or two ago?

Really? See, I would have thought that being Middle East Peace Envoy representing all the world's major powers would pay about £5.50 p/hr.
Who won the Labour Deputy Leadership election then?
People on my blog are suggesting you have syphilis Guido..is this true?
Another waste of money. The Middle East does not need more smoke and mirrors.
Surprised you haven't commented on Drippy Dave's appointment of Sayeeda Warsi, Guido, seems to have upset the Margaret Thatcher Foundation for Freedom: what about you?
How much do you get nowadays for stitching mailbags together?
W.W.
Is blair going to follow Jimmy Carter in building wooden houses somewhere in the middle of America,
Happy july 4th youse Americans ,enjoy your holiday (I know you had a long weekend).
Well Jimmuh Cahtuh was America's worst president, and Blairs was the UKs worst PM.
anticitizenone, if you actually think Blair was the UK's worst Prime Minister, you are a cretin.
£100,000?
What happened to the millions he was supposed to be pocketing from a speech tour?
Yes but is this a full time job, a one day a week directorship of Peace Inc. or is he a 'consultant'? And what are the fringe benefits? I mean, it's not very much money for fixing the world is it? (Mind you, I'd have done it for £95,000 plus VAT or cash in hand) What's the going rate for peacemaking, anyway?
Of course Blair's appointment is an indication of Carter's failure to do the job properly. As if such an indicator was actually necessary...
Anyway, that's not even going to cover the mortgage. He's going to have to take on another job or two. There are a few vacancies for evening cab drivers (own smart car required) round here if he's interested.
Apart from Major, Thatcher, Callaghan, Heath, Wilson and Alec Douglas-Home, Blair was our worst.
The "office and travel expenses" are the real key here - a little private speechmaking tacked onto that trip to DC, a swing past the Dubai Hilton for a presentation (after the official work is all done of course).
It's now clear to me the Pressalump was doing a dry run for Tone, just to see if the public would notice the gappy official programme.
Couldnt they get a Pole to do it for less?
And Bliar was the worst PM by a country mile. When was their ever such a fraud in that office. A war criminal, a petty criminal and someone who personally caused so much damage to the political process. What a legacy.
I just bet they don't realise that 'travelling expenses' for Tony Blair involves the on-call hire of a Boeing Business Jet (converted 737 with double bed, showers and extra-strong dental floss for Cherie). Usual cost: £400,000 per round trip.
Allan,
Actually you are the cretin. No other prime-minister or government has done so much to damage the British way of life. Al-fucking-qaeda should be paying him... (As they apparently want to 'destroy our way of life')
Zorro
At the Concert for Diana, when a film clip of T Bliar came on, there were 60 thousand rousing BOOS. 'tis a pity they could not have been given this blog address!
It's clear that Gordon Brown had absolutely nothing to do with the policies of the last decade and his "Nuthin to do with me, Guv" Policy Statements will also stretch to deciding the prosecutions in the "Cash for Honours" case. Do we have an extradition treaty with Gaza ?
P.S.
Don't miss the "wicked witch" comedy hour on BBC 1 tonight 9pm. It's shaping up to be in line for "Best Comedy of the Year"!
how gratifying to know that he's going to be handsomely paid -- I was really worried how the Blair family were going to make ends meet. By the way, any idea if the BBC paid Cherie for the exclusive documentary, and, if so, how much? (One does like to see one's licence fee going to such deserving causes.)
I wonder if he is planning on spending less than 3 months a year in the U.K. If he does then the tax benefits of having formal overseas employment will be very great - all his earnings on the U.S. lecture circuit will be free of U.K tax (he will presumably have to pay some U.S. tax but the rate will be lower).
The tax benefit will be much greater than the salary and will be there whether he does much work in the job or hardly any at all.
I'm relieved really - I was thinking £250,000. Any idea yet what cretins will be on his staff to do the heavy lifting?
Mr anonymous really: are you suggesting that our former illustrious Prime minister would duck & dive and wander off to avoid evade his just dues. Really you should understand that is the role of his wife. Dodging tax rail fares et hoc!
After Tax, (one assumes he IS paying Tax, perhaps Gordon can enlighten us), he wont have enough left to pay 2 months mortgage fees.
Considering that the middle east is a shithole full of lunatics and maniacs, I reckon Blair's getting taken for a ride with this package.

No, you're wrong here - £100K plus expenses is very good value for Mr Blair's services. This mission requires an internatonal figurehead who has expert hands-on experience of the troubles in the Middle East together with an intimate knowledge of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and, in this regard, by virtue of his deep personal understanding of the crucial current issues, Tony Blair is far-and-away the man best placed to fulfil this vital diplomatic role and to bring about a long-lasting peaceful resolution to the wider regional conflict - because, after all, he caused it.
First Class NEPOTISM.
Hope the little shit has to pay tax on this money......likely find that its exempt.
Can't we get a doctor to arson Connaught Sq?
Is he only giving them a week of his time? He needs a new agent if this is the best deal he can drive. I thought he was being employed as a negotiating expert?
Dubai Hilton?? Have you been there? Horrible place, full of rapacious faced, money-sniffers....On the other hand, they should fit right in.
Travel expenses too? Wow, I would like to read that Oyster card! Oh and speech tours requires you talking about your achievements!
Still a work in progress perhaps?
But jocularity aside I honestly will cheer if he brings peace to that area of our globe. It is a seriously difficult role and hats off for that.
I think st toni will get martyrd by some bloke with a bomb.cue state funeral.
the idea of this man trying to fix something he spent years breaking is beyond parody.what next prezza working for weight watchers.
Blair's expenses will be more than £100k a month.
The idea of him as a Middle East PEACE ENVOY is frankly SICK.
Blair: "Well, today I'm here to discuss ongoing conflicts in the Middle-East".
Sheiks: "Well you started it"
Blair: "No, you did"
Sheiks: "No you did"
Blair: "No YOU did"
Sheiks: "No, YOU fucking started it you fucking lying kafir"
can't see it working out personally.
mitch 8:11pm
what next prezza working for weight watchers.
he could act as a deterrent advert: "cut your calories or you could become an uncouth fat ugly greedy stupid corrupt cunt like this".
alternatively he could take seminars on table manners and social etiquette
for farm animals.
You all seem pretty cheesed off that Blair will be the new 'Peace Envoy', but he's not going go to be the main man... his role is supposedly confined to 'improving Palestinian governance'. Hardly the way he has presented it, but nothing new there.
