Will Tony Be the First Catholic PM?

It would cause this Catholic freedom fighter immense amusement if today Tony became Britain's first Roman Catholic Prime Minister. Knowing the vanity of Blair it is not impossible that he would choose to join the Catholic communion by the hand of His Holiness.

At this stage he will have no further hand in Anglican Bishopric appointments and any possible unease caused in Orange circles in Northern Ireland now irrelevant, it would be a good time to formalise his position.

An added bonus being he could ask the Pope there and then for absolution for his sins...

UPDATE :
The Observer's John Hooper in Vatican City reports a Vatican source saying Blair used his last official foreign engagement before leaving office to tell the Pope he wanted to become a Roman Catholic.

"But, in talks lasting more than half an hour, the outgoing Prime Minister was left in no doubt that the Pope took a dim view of his record in office. A statement issued afterwards by the Vatican said there had been a 'frank exchange of views'. Vatican sources said the Pope remained unmoved in his view that Blair had been wrong over Iraq. To an even greater extent than his predecessor, Benedict feels that Catholic politicians cannot separate their public lives from their private."

This is his take on parliament and the scrutiny of the executive and imparticularly head of government. Who made it Bollo*ks - He did!!!! If he thought it was so bad - why did he not try and change it???!!!

This is in the Times Magazine today - A direct quote of what he thought.

Hopefully Brown will make it a twice weekly affair and even more importantly try and deter arselicking Labour MP’s from showing up elected members.

1. I doubt the Pope has enough years left to live, to take on that task.

2. As a Catholic, I don't want the cunt joining our ranks.

Blair may be attracted to Catholicism by his need to have someone else issue absolution - he perhaps knows to much to do it for himself.

Like to be serious, for a change, Guido.

As one myself, I say from experience that there is nothing I could wish better for a person than that he/she become a Catholic. But there's a possible snag, isn't there?

To become a Catholic you have to believe in Catholicism. Does Blair? Is he even close to believing in it? If so, I'm genuinely pleased - but really it will have been a road-to-Damascus change of heart, will it not, when you consider for example his solid record of anti-life voting in Parliament. I know God's grace works wonders, so maybe...I hope so. But if it's just a liking for the smell of incense (of which, actually, there's not as much nowadays as there was), then I'm afraid he'll have to be told that that falls a bit short of what is needed for becoming a Papist.

If the Prime Narcissist is planning to become a Catholic, I suspect it's prompted by the desire, conscious or otherwise, to become Pope. He's the sort of person whose existence is meaningless without an egocentric target: become Labour leader; become prime minister; win three elections; stay in office ten years. Actually doing anything useful en route to the target isn't important. But what's left for him now? Never again will he be able to posture so long and so satisfyingly in the international spotlight. Unless he gets his hands on the keys of St Peter one day. So he might be picturing Pope Mendax stepping out on that famous balcony thirty or forty years hence, ready to begin spouting gas _urbi et orbi_...

Blair has to renounce his views on abortion and gay marriage first apparently.

Conversions to Catholicism by major politicians have become slightly longer affairs of late, so whilst it's a lovely thought that he might be the first Catholic PM it is, I'm afraid, probably fanciful. I don't mean to to be harsh but that's about right for this site ...

My good fellow, this is a quite probable prognosis, but what you have failed to comprehend is that, in his megalomaniacal mind, the papacy would merely constitute a career step towards becoming Almighty God - in which paramount office he would seek to amend the universal laws of morality in order to enable a purified presentation of his sick and sullied soul.

Bliar has shown little inclination thus far to repent of his sins and display contrition. What does he think will change? Is this an attempt to gain absolution using his current (and soon to dwindle) status in the same way that the wealthy payed the clergy in the Middle Ages?

I'm not a Catholic and I have nothing against our left-footed brethren although they are slightly intolerant of gays and users of contraception. I cannot understand how they could accept someone into their faith who has played fast and loose with many of their fundamental principles of belief. When has Bliar ever taken a stance on abortion for example.

Perhaps he thinks this is the only way he can avoid the fires of Hell. Perhaps he has been nagged into it by the wife. Perhaps he thinks it is a bigger, older and more interesting Church than the boring old Anglican one or the miserable Protestant ones, and therefore more befitting his stature? My money is on the lattermost motivation.

Surely I am not alone in thinking it odd that a Prime Minister who has engaged in a war which was condemned both by the current Pope and by his predecessor should have an easy entry into the Church. Speaking about the possibility of an invasion of Iraq before his election to the papacy, the then Cardinal Ratzinger said:

"All I can do is invite you to read the Catechism, and the conclusion seems obvious to me…the concept of preventive war does not appear in The Catechism of the Catholic Church." Later he would say: "It should never be the responsibility of just one nation to make decisions for the world." And following the start of the War, His Future Holiness was unequivocal in his views: "There were not sufficient reasons to unleash a war against Iraq. To say nothing of the fact that, given the new weapons that make possible destructions that go beyond the combatant groups, today we should be asking ourselves if it is still licit to admit the very existence of a 'just war'."

One might also wonder how Tony Blair managed to explain to His Holiness that it was his Government which tried to force faith schools in England to open up to accept 25% of pupils from other faith backgrounds -- a move which was strongly, and successfully, opposed by the Catholic church. Similarly, Tony Blair may find himself in a slightly uncomfortable position if the Pope decides to ask him if he doesn't think it slightly odd that he should seek entry to the Roman Catholic faith so soon after his Government created civil partnerships between gay couples and, most recently, ignored the Roman Catholic Church's desperate plea to exempt Roman Catholic adoption agencies from equality laws on gay adoption. More on this at my own blog.

No one has yet mentioned who is behind this absurd sideshow. Step forward Cherie, the fat Scouser with the ridiculous gob. Just seeing a rerun of her at The Dome on Millenium night singing Old Lang Syne made me realise what a complete loony she really is.

Think about it... Carole Caplin and her nutty therapies, Peter Foster, the conman with his dodgy property deals, the "charity" work where she jets half way round the World to skim of £25 Grand, the freeloading holidays, the greed as she empties the shelves at a clothes store when invited to take a freebie. Its patently obvious, the woman is demented.

On top of that she is married to Blair. A coniving lying conman of the first order. Now, suddenly, in mid life he wants to convert to another religion. This is nonsense of the highest order. The Catholic Church, with all it's weird and wacky rituals, its hang up about sex and promotion of guilt as an excuse for normal human behaviour is really a bonkers religion.

So Blair wants to go there. Do you, do I, give a monkeys?

The sooner this husband and wife tag team, reprentative of all that is wrong with this country, disappears from public view, the better.

Is becoming Catholic the first step to heading up the UN? It would certainly appeal to a lot more people than Protestantism would, and a move like that is vintage Blair.

Well no-one seems to have picked up on the truth about this.

It is a total PR stunt which Blair has held back as 'safety net'.

He knows he might be prosecuted for war crimes for invading Iraq (his barrister wife says so so this must be right), and he has problems also with Cash for Honours (a far more immediate danger).

Very difficult NOT to have sympathy for a devout Christian who always 'tried to do the right thing' and who has such religious beliefs he is willing to convert to being a Left Footer.

If anyone moves to prosecute Blair they will have the Pope and the UK religious establishment to answer to......
