Innocent Drinks

Last night at the House, on the terrace, a co-conspirator spied John McTernan, drinking with Bridget Prentice. They moved on to the Strangers bar later that night. She is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice with responsibility for legal services. John was, you will recall, very helpful to Yates of the Yard with his enquires. Clearly they had much to discuss...

Every time I hear "ministry of justice" I think judge dredd and john reid as stallone "I am the law".Any way perhaps they were discussing the pevious post about labour legal aid.

Let's be realistic. What might they have in common - apart from being dipsomaniacs, that is? Why might these two want to spend so much time in each other's company?

Strangers' Bar leads on to the terrace. They "moved on" a full three yards to Strangers' because it was raining. Fascinating.

Perhaps McTernan is eyeing her seat in Lewisham not far from where he lives, now his Scottish crusade has ended in disaster?

Given the police have been asked to clarify certain matters by the CPS relating to Cash-For Peerages we must assume that we get a decision as soon as he steps down, so within 2 week, yes?

Surely an 18 month investigation, in such a high profile case, inc 4 arrests, would have resulted in a a very strong case against one or more of those involved. Had it been a weak case theyu would have hoofed into touch touch ages ago.

It is about time CPS made an announcement.

Lets face it Goldsmith is on a roll at the moment........

Three metres, surely...

Surely the finer detail of turning Queen's Evidence could have been obtained from his lawyers...?

Presumably they were reflecting that, if the CPS can bring charges against a High Court judge for supposedly flashing the same woman on two occasions in packed commuter trains (yet both times she was the only person to see him) - thereby destroying a top lawyers credibility when they had bugger all chance of a conviction - then bringing charges on peerages for loans should be a no-brainer....

I wonder how much later the chatting continued until.

'Oh, Bridget, couldn't we go and talk about all this somewhere more, ahem, 'intimate' - there's so much I have to tell you"...

I thought he was going to Australia. The long-suffering Mrs McTernan may have something to say about this, having had to up sticks to Scotland when hubby became involved in the Scottish Parliament fiasco, then back to London... And now he's smooching with Bridget.

Thought he was due to (cough) visit the antipodes to ensure some leftie lot over there lost another election

Maybe he's done that & I missed the outcome.

Does MOJ administer Witness Protection services?

Is it true that McTernana started off as a mere librarian at the old Labour Party HQ under Kinnock? If so he should know what to do when the old bill throw the book at him.

I wonder if there is a connection between Blair's "feral media" speech and these McTiernan chats.

I knew this cutting from the Indie would be useful one day:

'Mrs Prentice has one unique and highly prized talent. She brings to her position the gravitas of Ab Fab's Bubble and is therefore able to bring the Government into greater disrepute than it already is.'

What's this got to do with fruit smoothies?

Indeed ed - I think Mr Fawkes has missed a bit of an advertising opportunity by not flagging this post up as 'Innocent Smoothie' and thus getting some fruity fun delivered to Guido Towers courtesy of those nice chaps at..ahem, what's the name of that drinks firm again ?

Innocent of the Reichstag fire perhaps, otherwise guilty as charged, even if its for being alive.

I presume McTernan is persona non grata in Oz following another humiliating defeat and re-election for Howard.
