He will keep his head down until the results are known in Scotland and if, as likely, the SNP win overall then Brown will keep out of the way until the dust has settled.

Meanwhile The Conservatives, SNP and Liberal Democrats have failed to make the break-throughs they both NEEDED and predicted.
LABOUR is NOW POISED for a HISTORIC FOURTH term.

New Labour's spin today is that: "the meltdown in Labour votes that EVERYONE predicted didn't happen and we did BETTER THAN EXPECTED"
Total bollox of course. It's a favourite NuLab tactic in recent elections for their stooges in the media to lower expectations so that NuLab can claim some sort of victory even though they only get a pathetic 27%. In the new jargon it's called "management of expectations" I believe.

More than 20% of candiidates defending Labour seats have lost. Blears said on the Today programme that this was quite predictable for the 10th year of a government. So how many Councillors do they expect to lose in their 11th and 12th years? What about their 13th and 14th and 15th years (God forbid)?
I notice Murdoch's satellite outfit are playing down the switch based on a net gain of 12 councils for the tories. From where I'm looking its 28 net gains - time to update your pages boys, admit the truth !!
Never mind a few northern Labour strongholds, Middle England is the key to the next election, and it convincingly rejected the Liberal Dingbats and voted Tory.
As for Gordon Brown, he cannot possibly lead Labour in England after this debacle. South of Yorkshire it's turning into something of a rout.

There are some fascinating comparisons to be drawn between Nicolas Sarkozy and Gordon Brown:
both are incredibly authoritarian
both have caused havoc in their respective ministries
both are seen by nationalists as outsiders (Sarkozy because he comes from an hungarian immigrant family and Brown because he is a scottish git)
the differences:
Sarkozy is an unashamed racist.
The Chancellor carries his racism in a brown paper bag.
Sarkozy and his nationalist/racist policies are very attractive to the French electorate who find his allure very strong despite their fervent nationalism and racism.
I've yet to meet somebody who likes Brown.
The French are conducting an elction and so can choose whether to have Sarkozy as President.
