GuyNews : Irish Elections

It is election day in Ireland today. The Green Party are expected to do well, in small part due to this rather good advert. The small Progressive Democrat party, according to some, is going to get wiped out. Guido thinks they will survive.

See it on GuyNews.TV.

"I'd like there to be less children in my class"...

Move to Dunblane then.

They must have rounded up every single Irish non-indigenous child to make that ad

It wouldn't surprise me for the Greens to do well...Green, Ireland, Green, Ireland. Geddit?
Are we allowed to be un-PC here?

I thought it was rubbish. I was waiting for the good bit that never arrived.

I don't like to see children exploited thus - it makes the greens look pretty evil to me. JD.

And just what the fuck is wrong with being 'non-indigenous' TUSCAN Tony you ignorant twat ??

Anonymong 4:35 - try to keep calm. The Tuscan's comment was quite short, and contained no slurs on the non-bogtrotter element of the Oirish demographic, as far as I can tell. Are you one of those half-chinese, half Angolan chipshop owners in Co Limerick?

Wasn't TT saying that there aren't many non-whites in Ireland?

Better than the mess in Wales.

I hope to see an end to these bent De Valerist scum and victory to the heirs of Michael Collins, God bless him!

apart from a couple at the beginning, all the children appear to be 'indigenous' (i.e. white)

PD better survive as I've put money on Mary Harney winning, PD's getting 5-7 seats & being in the next govt with FF. Also Greens getting 9 seats or less. Will Guido be good enough to cover any of my PD losses in the above? Thanks in advance.

anon 4.35pm - read ed's comment at 4:50pm if my original comment was confusing or unclear in any way. I dislike being misinterpreted as much as the next man.

Paddy Power is already paying out on Bertie returning.

Provos not making the gains they expected.

Well Guido - looks like your support for the PD's has had the reverse midas touch!

McDowell and Harney the only 2 who are likely to get elected and even they will be scrapping for the last seats in their respective constituencies.

Maybe not wipe-out but bloody close to it.

Mind you - at least the Provos are having a rubbish day too.

I applaud the way you have poured oil onto troubled green waters

and let us look forward to the day when a pint of guinness becomes the true symbol of racial diversity of Ireland.

anom looks like mcdowell will lose his seat as well.
Grealish however looks safe.
So 2 seats

wikipedia is reporting that McDowell has lost his seat

thinking it was just a bit of wiki vandalism, i double checked on the RTE site.

he HAS lost his seat
! and to make it even worse - he lost it to the Green Party!!!! and to make even worse - McDowell is the leader of the PDs.

so my tip off in the comments was correct. losing a ministerial seat is what i would call "meltdown".

note: for English readers unfamiliar with Irish politics - McDowell was the Justice Minister - so this is equivalent to the Home Secretary losing his seat.

also, the deputy leader of the PDs has lost her seat - held for 15 years...

from RTE:
"The party's deputy leader and former Minister of State, Liz O'Donnell, has lost the seat she has held for 15 years, being excluded in Dublin South on the sixth count."

Kwekubo said...

The leader, deputy leader and party president all wiped out Guido! You backed the wrong horse, everyone's dancing on their graves around here.

whats interesting is that after nearly 10 years in power, Fianna Fail managed to get around 41 per cent of the vote - an astonishing result for an incumbent government. (and a result that Gordon Brown would die for...)

seems are if the usual "disaffection with the government" feelings were entirely directed at the PDs. thats the handy thing about coalitions - public ire can be directed towards a junior partner , while you get off scot free.

Bertie is what i would call a "cute hoor"...
