Has anyone seen John Reid's attack dog, Steve Bates, lately? He wasn't seen in the Westminster Arms today. Maybe he is deep in discussion with Simon Wren?
Wonder why?

Never been first to comment before, what a responsibility... Trouble is I can't think of anything pithy to say.
"... the Guardian knows the identity of the Ministerial aide, the Opposition do and so do all the newspapers who were briefed by him. Surely it can only be a matter of time before a brave newspaper editor takes the bait being laid by the Conservatives and names him."
This sites becoming boring,is the home office now fit fore perpose, how many ilegal immergrants can you fit on a pin head.if you know then could please remove them.
I'm just wondering - Was the relevant stuff leaked by the BoyzinBlue, or was it a media revolt against Reid, or did Grieves publish his correspondence? And where did the Guardian this morning get its very pointed allegation about the aide? Is it common knowledge all over Whitehall (so undeniable) or was it a single source that fingered the aide? This is only a wild guess, but applying the good old 'Cui Bono?' principle to the leak, the answer surely is 'Browno': Reid is the one person left that Brown now needs to destroy. Is it possible the story was 'helped' by a briefing, say to Rusbridger, from a Brownite Spad? The timing just seems so opportune for Brown.

pithy about that.
Gwil ap Tomos
And I misread it as "WHERES BANKSY?"
Perhaps answering questions about breaching The Offical Secrets act?
or perhaps not.....
Is that Simon Wren as in the bearded Saddam Hussein doppleganger?
just as well simon 'our tune' bates is not there as well, or it could get get bloody confusing.
then again, Simon Bates could be known as 'Mister Bates' and the younger one as 'Master, er, Steve' ?
I say, you don't think ... No, surely not ... it can't have been Bates who spoke to the media ... about a certain operation ... could it?
Isn't this government good at spin? So deft. They seem to get it right every time.
I said deft, not daft.
The more I watch 'The Thick Of It', the more it seems like a documentary..
You were asking what Steve Bates was doing today...

Simon Wren? I'd have thought the booze/fags diet would have done for him by now!
If you are looking for the archetypal media attack dog, he's your man, bloody good at it too.
In words:
"... the Guardian knows the identity of the Ministerial aide, the Opposition do and so do all the newspapers who were briefed by him. Surely it can only be a matter of time before a brave newspaper editor takes the bait being laid by the Conservatives and names him."
I am amazed that Able Seaman Staines has no idea where Master Bates is.

Does John Reid actually need an attackdog? Would have thought that's rather like having a Rottweiler being protected by a Yorkshire Terrier.
