Liar, Liar
Tony Blair is holding talks with the Hungarian prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsany. To help them get along better Guido has compiled some handy Hungarian political phrases for Tony to use:
| "No European country has done something as boneheaded as we have. Obviously, we lied throughout the last year-and-a-half, two years." | "Európában ilyen böszmeséget még ország nem csinált, mint amit mi csináltunk. Nyilvánvalóan végig hazudtuk az utolsó másfél, két évet." |
| "I almost perished because I had to pretend for 18 months that we were governing. Instead, we lied morning, night and evening." | "Majdnem beledöglöttem, hogy másfél évig úgy kellett tenni, mintha kormányoztunk volna. Ehelyett hazudtunk reggel, éjjel meg este." |
The Hungarian PM was caught on tape last May uttering the above and plenty more, resulting in rioting in Budapest. Tony Blair's lies resulted in Iraq...

Which you Tories were "bone headed" enough to believe.
In Hungary we have old gypsy saying - 'A lie gets halfway around the campsite before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.' Ha Ha. Very good, yes?
Which you Tories were "bone headed" enough to believe.
Tories usually like to think that we can believe what our leaders tell us. How wrong we were.
Wrong, naive, stupid and inept as an opposition - yes.
I think Gyurcsany's approach is called "refreshingly candid". I rather like it. Contrast:
"The British economy has never been in better shape."
"Our children are getting better examination results than ever before."
"This has been the best year ever for the NHS."
"Our armed forces have all the equipment they could possibly need."
"Under this government pensioners have got so much money they are dancing in the streets."
(OK, I made the last one up.)
I thought you regarded this as uberbores going on about ancient history?(Regarding Mr Ames' worthy efforts)?
Trumpeter...to add to your excellen list how about:
"that we are purer than pure, that people understand that we will not have any truck with anything that is improper in any shape or form at all"
"I have expressed a degree of regret that can be equated with an apology" (eh?)
"In 1996 the CBI said to us you haven’t gone far enough [in removing dividend tax credits on pensions], you have to act in a decisive way in the long-term interests of British companies and British investors."
"This dossier is detailed and authoriatitive and I reccomend it to the house"
"(Saddam's) weapons of mass destruction programme is active, detailed and growing."
"The intelligence picture (the intelligence services) paint is one accumulated over the past four years. It is extensive, detailed and authoritative" [re Saddam's non-existent WMD]
"I can no longer believe anything you say to me"....too bloody right
Here's a useful phrase for Tony before he shakes hands ...
Nekem van mosott az én -m kezek óta megható Gordon
(I have washed my hands since touching Gordon)

Personally, if I was of the frothing Labour astroturfing mentality I would be saving my wrath for a government that is now on record as the most corrupt administration this country has ever known. Again, if I were a Labour supporter I would be totally ashamed by this, but you chaps seem to be incredibly proud of this fact. Perhaps you can explain why you apparently have to support this regime regardless of its disgraceful record?
Here's a couple of more useful phases for Tony to try out ...
I'm egy becsületes valami pasas
(I'm an honest sort of guy)
Mennyi tevék részére feleségem
(How many camels for my wife?)
For some strange reason I honestly think that Tony B genuinely believes what he says, in the same way as Jeffrey Archer. That's why there's nary a blush on his cheek when he comes up with the sort of waffle and tripe that would get you taken into the pub car park for a good kicking. It of course also makes him a closet raving loon. They've a lot in common, that pair.
Quite right Julian. Being a Labour supporter should be a matter of utmost shame.
Julian, I can explain little of that to you - since I am not a supporter of the Labour Party, have not once in my life voted Labour in a local, general or European election, do not intend to do so, would not reccomend anyone else do so, and have never suggested in any comment left on this or any other blog that anyone do so.
Perhaps Nadine Dorries would like to invite this Hungarian to her constituency !
My chinese cousin Dr Fang asked me to pass this message on ,he is looking to establish a UK based medical practice , should you wish to contact him he can be found outside Primark on Kilburn high road selling DVD's.

Personally I see Iraq as an experiment.
If the Iraqis can handle democracy then we should continue without a wall between us.
If Arabs cannot handle democracy then we should not let arabs into our democracy.
I see google now does translation:
"Sale of new human organs were harvested from the survival of the people, and my nephew Peter link if you need transplants"
If Arabs cannot handle democracy then we should not let arabs into our democracy.
Which arabs are you talking about? Are the Iraqis arabs? What arabs are you against moving to the country or are you confusing people from South Asia and people from the Middle East?
I think you'll find that St Toni of B-Liar has gone to Hungary to give his new found mate lessons in lying with sincerity and the ethics of mendacity.
Toni has qualified summa cum lauda in both subjects and hopes to establish a European Coaching School, based at the Ecole Normale D'Administration in Paris.

This article by David Runciman from London Review of Books provides a useful analysis of Blair's lying vs Brown's
http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n21/runc01_.html
Blair's profile these days suggests a lot of heavy duty cock sucking.
Perhap's Brown's not the only closet gay in the Government.
what a stunning meeting of minds this will be.neither one beliving a word the other says while they compare their record of "achievements" in office.to steal a quote the unelectable bullshitting the unbelivable. All we need after is blears spinning about it.
TB looks as though he is morphing into Lord Levy in your picture Guido.
cassandra [3.02 PM] That article you recommended by David Runciman is a very good read; a very skilful analysis of two different types of hypocrisy. But it may be a little highbrow for some of the more thuggish contributors to this blog.

Thank you. For those with an interest in analysing the art of lying, the comments on the Bush White House in Al Franken's "The truth with jokes" could equally apply to our PM.
Brown's been getting in shape too...
for the day he has to match Blair's standards:
"Indeed Britain is a country that not only prides itself in its fairness, tolerance and what George Orwell called decency but - as we have seen in recent debates like that over the Big Brother show - wants to be defined by it, defined by being a tolerant, fair and decent country."
He could make one giant leap towards that goal by deporting himself with immediate effect.
