The Sun to Set on Tony

Rumour has it that Tony Blair has arranged an interview with George Pascoe-Watson at The Sun to run the day before Local Election polling day (2nd May). This could well be the day we get firm news as to Tony's departure date - some think he might announce it to be immediately after polling day to fit in with the assumption that the Labour leadership campaign will run for 7 weeks until the start of July. Would this help Labour in Scotland? Is Gordon any more popular than Blair? Guido still has money on Q3, but it is looking less certain that Blair has the will to to exit the stage as late as possible.

Would I be correct in thinking you have backed each quarter since the market opened? If so, I guess you must be right some time.

You would be incorrect. So Guido will not necessarily be right some time.

Well Guido, I accept your assurance, but it's not for nothing that you are known in some quarters as 'stopped-clock' Fawkes. A stopped-clock is of course right twice a day. ;-)

I almost as scared of Gordon Brown's communist agenda as I am of having people like the vindictive Michael White in positions of influence.

Hello Guido.

You were NOT wrong to do the Paxman interview. You came out fine. It was obvious that you were up against hardened professionals desperate to protect their turf.

You did fine!

Well if Blair announces his 'date' immediately after Polling Day that may well be seen as a reaction to a trouncing at the Polls.

If the current opinion polls tell us anything, Labour candidates in Scotland will be bounced, and probably those in England too.

Not good for New Labour, either way. Resignation date immediately prior to defeat would be just as telling.

You could normally place large amounts of cash on New Labour fighting a fierce rear-guard action on this one. But the minute the 'Date' is announced they'll get into Civil War. It'll be fun to watch. I do like to see a bit of blood on the carpet.

My sense is that GB is less popular than TB. Frankly I don't think that anything that anyone in the Labour government in London can do can save Joke Mcdonnall's neck. He's proved time and time again that he's inept. Just a few days ago he said. “We want people in Scotland to take the SNP seriously; the SNP could win this election." Rarely can the SNP have had such a ringing endorsement from their main opposition. The way the Lab administration have dealt with the sanctimonious bores in the Lib Dems have left them looking daft as far as many of there own supporters are concerned and winning no new friends anywhere else.

Prepare for the SNP. Prepare for the return of Wendy Alexander. And prepare for the Lib Dems to try and do a deal with the SNP. They will do anything to stay in power. Nicol Stephens is delusional and a man whose snout has been firmly in the trough, along with his campaign manager Tavish Scott. They've been on the Edinburgh housing scam. Scott apparently lives with a BBC journalist.

I can't imagine that Blair will go before the opening of the SF / DUP Assembly in Northern Ireland - it's the one big legacy project he has left with chance of a successful press conference.

Re last night's live interview, it was shit and anyone who's telling you otherwise is blowing smoke up your ass.

Had you been in the studio with the two of them, it might have been a different matter. The problem with being blacked out was that your reaction to their barbs couldn't be judged. All we had was silence and their sneers, which made you look very weak and stupid.

Ah well - it should make things more fun from now on. A smart arse scorned is a highly motivated one.

The Sun rumour makes a lot of sense. Then Brown can be blamed for the election results.

Just a thought Guido ,how about your two new friends at albeeb doing a guest blog on this site, maybe they could do an interactive blog ,of ourse no swearing.

Teflon is going to stay the course.

Forget Blair, I want to talk about Newsnight again. Guido, you were shite.

Homosexualist Bummer said...

The bloodsoaked PM has presumably given up on the hope his protege will make a run for the leadership.

I didn't see the newsnight thing, but assume it went as badly as I thought yesterday.
What was the point of entering that den of smug, biased, ingratiated, talking heads?
Surely the salient point of this blogging thing is that it presents an uncconnected alternative to the likes of White/BBC news editors.

The viewer is fully aware of the writer's political slant, unlike that shower of shyte at the beeb who are supposed to be neutral, but laugh at the notion.
What did Guido think was going to be the net result, especially appearing in the dark?
Was White as smugly patronising &
as usual, or more attack minded?

Less charitable folk will merely assume the secret underground blogger, uncovering all manner of deceit by the Westminster shytehawks, couldn't resist getting on telly.

Now the bespectacled balding buffoon is writing he has had an apology from Guido over a story, & that he should 'grow up'.

How much fun must the beeb apparatchiks have had over getting Guido to be in the dark.
What a (boringly predictable) carve up.

Perhaps TB will use the interview with George Fiasco Watson to comment on the hack's "world exclusive" that Blair would quit on May 31. Yes, May 31 - that's the date the hopeless Sun hack predicted Blair would go. Remember where you read it for the first - and almost certainly - only time.

peter the punter said...

He wouldn't be the only one to get Blair's exit date wrong, Jade. Many posters here, on PB.com and other similar sites have been salivating over the prospect of Blair being arrested since last November, at least.

Don't hear too many of them acknowledging how badly wrong they were.

Michael White came across as a genuinely angry man whereas Jeremy Paxman just fakes it. As it says in Proverbs :

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Punter:

'Wrong they were?'

Don't be silly, the game's not over yet.

peter the punter said...

So how long do we give it, Chuck? September? Christmas? Next Year - decade - century?

My point is that numerous posters were gleefully predicting his imminent arrest from last November. I suppose if they keep predicting it, they may one day be right.

And if they are not, do you suppose they will acknowledge the fact?

Apropos of nothing in particular, I just thought I'd share this little gem ......

If you go to the VIZ on-line Profanisaurus & check out the entry "gordon and tony" under the Stop Press. Huge laughs.

pascoesmate said...

Yes, but the other punters didn't splash it across the front page of the Sun as a confirmed fact like that twat - did they?
Just goes to show the Currant bun should stick to what it does best: Tits and bingo.

As long as it takes. Fat lady and singing comes to mind

I second that - when the Northern Ireland assembly kicks off on May 8th, Blair will appear on the steps of Stormont and announce that his work here is done.

He'll get back on the plane and plan for a new job in global 'reconciliation'.

If he resigns on 8th May, I suppose he can step down on 31 May, can't he?

Who's your source for this one, Guido? Nick Robinson?

tOry bLiar will announce his departure date? Big deal! Keeping this non-story well endowed in the public domain merely deflects attentions away from the real concerns that matter.
Will Gordon be a good alternative?
Is there such a thing as a three legged haggis?

If Blair announces his resignation terms the day after the local election does this mean the police can interview him under caution?

BOF2BS said...

Only if he feels a hand on his shoulder!

Julian said...

Does anyone really, seriously still think that the bastard will resign? Remember that we are dealing with politicians here, not with nice moral people like estate agents, tele-marketeers, debt collectors or door-to-door sales reps but with the real scum of our society, i.e. people with absolutely no moralily, no sense of social responsibility or remorse whatsoever.

I still think that the only way we will get Blair out of office is to get the scumbag listed as a squatter and send the bailiffs in to evict him and his foul brood.

Geoffrey G Brooking said...

Julian.

He's already got the old bill at the front door and the baliffs at the back.

He'll be having to wear a veil to get out next!
