Miliband's Blog Assistant Costs £62,400 a Year

Further to the stories about the Miliblogger's taxpayer funded blog, Tory Radio has calculated that since Miliband says
...he has an official effectively acting as his blogging assistant who does about 10 hours work a month at a cost of £300. Now if that was equated to a full time equivalent that would be say 40 hours a week at £30 an hour for 52 weeks which is a whopping £62,400 salary.
£62,400 a year is more than an MP's salary. The blog should be hosted by the Labour party and the asssistant's salary should be paid by the Labour party. Miliband should concentrate on sorting out Defra's serious problems rather than profile raising, partisan propanda blogging.

So, 10 hours a month for £300. £3600?

Perhap he should offer Guido a regular guest blogging slot, along the lines of the Sith's hilariously obvious hastily assembled "tories here too" defence of a few weeks ago

Tory Radio is just a wee bit late: I highlighted this on Thursday (Carnival of the Batshit #1).

"So far this month, you have posted 10 times. In February, you posted 12 times. In January, you posted 14 times. And that is taking your official ten fucking hours a month?

And those 10 hours a month are costing £300—£30 per hour? That's a little more reasonable than the design fees, Davey; although it does mean that your official must be raking in something of the order of £62,400 per year (assuming a 40 hour week) which is not a bad screw by anyone's standards."

Defra, the department who think their role in life is to gold plate eu directives and assist nulab with their ethnic cleansing of the countryside.
Milibland deserves the Berkley castle poker treatment.

Typical posturing by Millipenis.

Time to start undermining this fuckwit too in case, heaven forbid, he should succeed as Chief Cuntface of the Twatmong party.

But will Milibrain take up the standard of Blairism/Mandelsonism that Mandelson so expertly alluded to on the Sunday morning TV wind-bag programmes?

It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall when Gordo was shown that clip by his lackeys.

Being as how this is a public sector role, it would be naive to think that there really is a 'blogging assistant' who really is doing 10 hours work per month. Let's see this 'blogging assistant' - We want the timesheets! We want the timesheets! We want the ...

While your at it Guido can you ask milliboy how much he pays his astroturfers to sit on your blog over the weekend.

praguetory,
unfortunately despite now having a miniscule party membership, probably less than the bnp's,nulab wont go into administration. It is far too profitable for the likes of crapita, coen and sainsbury to keep them afloat, thus enabling their benefactors to keep robbing the tax payer via PFI's. The Sith was only the tip of an iceberg in doggy funding terms !

Dutch said...

Damn their doggy funding.

Nonstory said...

It doesn't cost £62,000. You just made that up.

By your own figures, it costs £3600.

And if it's two hours a week-odd from a civil servant doing something else anyway, am I bovvvered?

(No.)

£30 per hour, that's a canny wage for a part-timer, is it Mandelsonby any chance?

guido's great and i hate all things new labour too! but for the love of god this sort of shit if annoying.

so that's £3,600 then? yes. not the cuckoo-land £62k fairy tale that follows? no. oh. ok then, what was the point?

gossip and intrigue please not this fucking absurd excuse for a story.

any figure for a public sector worker's time needs very careful interpretation.

At its simplest -the "on-costs" i.e.office overheads, employers pension and NI contributions need to be allowed for (so the blog assistant probably gets less than £20 per hour but if he or she actually does get £30 the notional full cost is probably at least £45).
BUT - that assumes that Whitehall staff have every hour accounted and charged for like a plumber or a solicitor. They don't.

further to 11.06

if cours ministers do care about how many hours it takes for an official to do something if they can use it as an excuse to avoid answering a parliamentary question or FOI request

James said...

Ahem - pardon Guido? How do you work that £60,000+ out?

Boris Johnson gets up to £10,000 for an after dinner speech lasting an hour. So therefore on a 40 hour week he's earning £20million a year. Right? NO!

Jonathan Sheppard said...

Devils Kitchen - sorry didnt know you had done the same sums as me. Yes the figure apportioned for blogging may be £3600 - but their annual salary would be £62,400.

The point here is why is someone who I would hope to be quite senior (if they can command such a salary) spending ANY time acting as a blog assistant. What sort of level would an official be on at such a salary?

And if they are just hired in for 10 hours a month to blog edit - then the taxpayers is overpaying at £30 an hour!

Anyway - Im sure David is a bit busy now just waiting to launch his leadership bid.

That's a nice piece on Guido , but I think Brian missed out the lonely hearts band who comment on Guido's blog ,all looking a political home, all lost souls thinking do I vote red ,blue purple, yellow or green at the next election ,all waiting for Mr Yates to get out of a paddy wagon and knock on a certain door ,all waiting for Guido to come up with a better piece on milliboy than this.

Miss Millies Band encourages and sanctions 6% of a public sector employees time to be devoted to party political matters rather than the public services role they are employed to undertake.

Total UK public sector employment is stated to be 4.7m in Q4 of 2006.

The NuerLab potential leadership therefore envisages 282,000 full time equivalent (FTE)public sector employees allocating all their time to Labour party political activities.

This is certainly a way forward to assist the party's funding crisis!

I see maths is not your strong point.

Whats going on in cash for honours? All your leads dried up? Where we once had exciting stuff about a scandal which could bring down the PM, now we get dodgily calculated ephemera about a bloke who is no more than political planckton

so, he's not actually employed full-time, but if he were.. he'd be paid 62k a year.

i guess that doesn't make as good a headline though, does it G?

nasty little non-stories like this make it difficult to take you seriously.

Why does Miliband need any 'blogging assistant'? You log on to your blog and you type in what you want to say. Why does it need to cost any money to anyone?

jj said...

Exactly, anon at 12.28. The whole point of a blog is that it is supposed to be PERSONAL - not having the taxpayer fund some politico's aimless witterings.

Doesn't say much for Millipede's alleged great intellect if he is unable to log on and type, does it?

Even us low-paid workers who've just been screwed by the Budget can manage that........

very unfair Guido, very unfair indeed.

The blog is carbon neutral and blogs hosted by the Labour Party are Carbon positive.

It s therefore in the best interests of the environment that this blog is hosted by those that care for our environment.

Money well spent.

Talk about stretching the actual facts

Ok - the easy solution is for Miliband to tell us the full time salary of this public servant. Come on David - put your leadership bid on hold. Maybe he can also explain given the number of posting why it would ever take 10 hours a month to put them online!

Don't see anything bad about that, unless you are attacking Bryan Appleyard literary abilities. The only insult there seems to be levelled at Samizdata being neocon - something that I am sure will merit a great laugh from the Samizdatanistas.

No, nasty stories that my fucking tax money is financing that cunt Millibands blog make it difficult to take cunts like you seriously.

You want to be taken seriously? Raise that issue. Guido raised the issue of us paying for millicunts personal blog and you don't like that, so you fucking pay for it, personally, and don't expect me to make any contribution at all..

'cunt', apparently. said...

shogun, calling people cunts won't do you any favours.

neither does inflating the figure (which, whatever it is, shouldn't be spent from the public purse) to 62k.

that carry-on makes it easy to dismiss legitimate points.

(translation for your benefit: fuck off you dozy cunt, telling lies that people can see through right away doesn't get you anywhere - unless you're leader of the labour party)

I'm not after any favours...especially from a cunt like you.

neither does inflating the figure (which, whatever it is, shouldn't be spent from the public purse) to 62k.

No inflation at all but a demonstration of hopw much it costs for Millicuns assistant using a simple extrapolation based on an hourly rate. You think it sounds better or worse to say he is paid the equivalent of 62k pa, or that Millibands blog costs us £30 an hour? You choose.

that carry-on makes it easy to dismiss legitimate points.

See above, but what legitimate point are you making?

(translation for your benefit: fuck off you dozy cunt, telling lies that people can see through right away doesn't get you anywhere - unless you're leader of the labour party)

There you go, at least an honest comment, cunt that you are you've shown yourself capable of a semblance of integrity.

Just got to work on your skills at seeing points made without resorting to being a cunt.

What rude and crude company you keep Mr Fawkes. This story of yours is dopey bollocks and has been from the start. £3600 is not £62000 and £3600 is also not an unreasonable amount for the job or for DEFRA to build a public face for digital famers and yeomen.

Your casuistry and curmudgeonly nit-picking really is getting more tedious than Tony.

If the Bullingdon Bullshitter ever gets elected - which will be proof if needed that the media and public are simply bored.

Rather than affronted as they were by the relentless selfishness of Tories.

If this disaster ever comes to pass, say in 15 years or so, then non-Tory bloggers will enjoy some great years following your precedents for electric storms in matter hatter teacups.

Or otherwise deal with issues that matter to people. £3600 for a blog for a year with a couple of schoolboy errors from a 41-year-old kid with a great future. Not that I'll be supporting him for the top job until he remembers his DNA.

Shotgun said...

You're deluded Chris.

Millibland is tainted by New labour and the failings, incompetence and sleaze of New Labour, Brown and Bliar, and will be forever.

Like Tory minsters from the Thatcher era, he is doomed.

And good fucking thing too for this useless cunt.

GuardianReader said...

So you take something that's actually pretty reasonably priced and you inflate it to an exorbitant amount and put that in your headline?

Deceitful? Yes.

Spin? Definitely.

This isn't news, this is stirring and you should know better.

Shotgun said...

For a start, who the fuck are you to define what is reasonable for that cunt Millibland to pay, of my and others fucking money? It would be even more reasonable all round if the fucker paid for his own fucking blog.

Or is that simple fact too fucking simple for all you Milliband cock suckers to understand?

£30 an hour is massively too much for someone to be paid as an assistant to upload a blog...most of us do it for fucking free!
