Dale on the Smith Institute

Iain Dale has been tracking the Smith Institute around Westminster and Whitehall for Doughty Street TV. The evidence that the Smith Institute is a Brownite front, rather than a non-political, non-partisan charity is patently clear. Download the video here.

It is excellent and stitches Gordo up perfectly. We must focus on the tax evasion aspect, I assume the charitable status means some tax advantages, as that will appeal to the sun reader as well. Do we have any idea on the total numbers involved?

This all comes under the Home Office.

Why doesn't John Reid order a very urgent enquiry "purely to clear up any impression of wrong-doing" - then bury Gordon up to his neck in sleaze before Tony resigns?

It's not as if Tony would object - maybe Matrix Chambers can help out with a bit of free advice?

If John doesn't seize the day he's done for anyway.

The Smith Institute got SI Events Ltd to run their events. SI Events is run and operated completely by trustees and directors of the Smith Institute.

Did SI Event Ltd receive any money from the Smith Institute and did anybody benefit?

If money did change hands then did The Smith Institure put the contract for running its events out to tender?

Did the Smith Institute get permission from Charity Commissioner to pay its own people to run events - that they would have had to do anyway?

A Ltd company is set up as a means of mitigating risk from the charity - (if no money did change hands) why did the charity not run its own events and what were the risks it was trying to mitigate?

Did the Smith Institute use SI Events Ltd to hide the meetings it was holding from the public?

How much of this was Gordon Brown aware of?

re 08.25 :
the numbers involved...
well 200 odd meetings at a top W1 venue, plus who paid for the prawn sandwiches ? Looks like gordo and crew have defrauded the tax payer of hundreds of thousands. Has a police complaint been made yet ????? If not, its time for one of you metropolitan types to toddle off to plod and do your public duty.

If Gordon gets burned, you will have the gratitude of the entire nation. I think we should recommend you for a peerage (if anarcho capitalists accept such things)

Too right. The Inland Revenue grosses up donations to charities (i.e. gives them free cash) by means of tax credits.

There are other forms of companies being promoted by this Government as well - and the question as to why the Sith did not adopt one of these remains outstanding, Namely Community Interest Company (CIC)or Social Enterprise.

By the way- well done on the Sith expose and on the hidden email thing, Lord Haw-Haw Levy didnt look very pleased on TV

I may need some wax taken out of my ears but is this right that Brown and his Sithian kronies have been taking electoral advice from Robert Crumb? Tax-breaks for women built like shot-putters in the next budget, no doubt. Hope Diana Abbott wasn't in the audience - they'd have had to scrape Crumb off her with a hoe.

MP quits 'to make way for Brown ally'
'Colin Challen, who represents Morley and Rothwell, has written to his constituency party members saying he plans to concentrate on campaigning for an international agreement to halt global warming and climate change.
But his decision is also linked to the hunt for a "safe" seat by Labour high-flier Ed Balls whose nearby Normanton constituency is to disappear under boundary changes to be introduced by the general election. '

It's obvious Smith Inst. is a Brown front - I ran a session for them at a Party conference and got a 'thank you' gift back - 'The collected speeches of Gordon Brown'! - currently propping up an uneven table eg!

Backwoodsman - Appreciate comments - we need to hammer out a number: Gordo, stealth-tax thief, architect of NuLab, funder of Bliars experiments (but not prisons) has stolen GBP1,XXX,XXX of taxpayers money. He is utterly despised in teh general population for his taxing tactics and anything liek this makes him an instant electoral liability.

Peter Hain for leader!

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has today published a report stating that Brown will need to raise taxes by £10billion to fill his black hole in the public finances.

That's around 4p on income tax or it's equivalent.
